Buying activewear tops in Bangladesh
An activewear top is a knitted tee, tank or long sleeve made for exercise. Polyester does not absorb water, so sweat spreads and evaporates; cotton holds it and loses shape. Gyms, running clubs and companies in Bangladesh buy these tops as kit and event wear; importers buy them for sport and athleisure ranges.
A wicking, quick-dry or anti-odour label needs a test on your own fabric. An activewear top manufacturer in Bangladesh quotes on the brief, so Roptan writes fabric, seams, print and claims into it, places the order with a verified seller, checks the lab reports and a washed sample, and inspects the finished tops.
How to brief an activewear top manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Fabric, weight and elastane
- Fibre percentages, knit and GSM with a tolerance. Weight changes breathability, opacity and compression; tops usually carry less elastane than leggings, and recovery matters too.
- Seams
- Flatlock at shoulders and underarms, where flat seams reduce chafing. Bonded seams need controlled heat and a compatibility test, since poor bonding can peel after washing.
- Ventilation
- Mesh panels or laser-cut perforations at the underarms and along the spine. Placed wrongly, they weaken the garment or distort the fit under tension.
- Decoration
- Sublimation suits polyester or high-polyester fabric only; printing panels before sewing avoids the white streaks that can appear at seams and folds. Screen print can crack on stretch fabric.
- Claims and label
- List each claim you will print, with its test. For the EU, Regulation 1007/2011 requires the fibre composition on the label, so give exact percentages.
Tests behind activewear top claims
- AATCC TM195, TM199 and TM201
- TM195 measures the moisture management behind a wicking claim; drying time by moisture analyser (TM199) or drying rate on a heated plate (TM201) backs a quick-dry claim. Agree the pass mark.
- ISO 105-E04 and ISO 105-C06
- Fastness to perspiration matters most on tops worn against the skin; add washing and rubbing (X12) grades per colour, staining read on the ISO 105-A03 grey scale.
- EN ISO 20932-1
- The strip test for the elasticity of fabrics, excluding narrow fabrics such as elastic tape. Ask for its figures on the bulk fabric, not only on the sample, and agree the pass values.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and REACH
- Tops touch the skin, so ask for product class 2; certificates last one year. For EU orders, also ask for a report against REACH Annex XVII entry 72 on CMR substances.
Lead times and delivery
Samples, from proto to pre-production, usually need four to six weeks. Order to port usually runs about 75 to 120 days for knit programmes; custom-dyed colours, imported fabric and the August to October peak add time. Minimums at mid-sized units usually sit around 1,000 pieces per style and colour, and large plants ask for more. Roptan confirms both in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your gym, club, office or warehouse, packed by size and colour and planned back from any event date, with the packing list, lab reports, final inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying activewear tops for export
A knitted top with a plain hem usually falls under HS heading 6109, T-shirts, singlets and vests; one with a drawstring, ribbed waistband or other tightening at the hem usually goes to 6110. Your broker confirms the line. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, or by air from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, with test reports for every printed claim.
Questions buyers ask
What GSM should an activewear top be?
It depends on the use. One guide puts training and warm-weather tops under 180 GSM, midweight at 200 to 250 GSM and compression above 250; a maker gives polyester tops about 120 to 220 GSM. State GSM with a tolerance and approve a swatch.
Polyester or nylon for activewear tops?
Polyester is the usual choice: light, non-absorbent and ready for sublimation. Nylon feels softer and resists abrasion better, so it suits compression tops, but it usually costs more and absorbs slightly more moisture.
Can we print anti-odour on the label?
Only with evidence. Antibacterial activity is tested to ISO 20743. In the EU, a top claiming biocidal properties is a treated article: it may only use approved active substances, and the label must say it contains biocidal products and name the active substances.
Can you supply tops knitted in one piece?
We source them where a seller has access to the machines, often through a knitting partner. Sizing and stretch are harder to keep consistent on these tops, so we ask who knits them and check sizes across the run.
How soon will I hear back about sportswear and swimwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
