Buying shrink and stretch film in Bangladesh
Shrink film is oriented film that tightens round a product when heated in a tunnel or with a heat gun. Stretch film, usually LLDPE, holds a load tight by elastic recovery, with no heat. In Bangladesh, drink, food and consumer goods packers buy shrink film to bundle bottles and overwrap cartons, and factories and warehouses buy stretch film to wrap pallets before they travel.
A shrink and stretch film manufacturer in Bangladesh has to suit your machine as much as your load. Roptan sources from verified makers, asks for test figures on named methods, has a sample roll run on your tunnel or wrapper, and checks bulk rolls before dispatch. You deal with Roptan only.
How to brief a shrink and stretch film manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Job and machine
- Bundling, overwrap or pallet wrap, and the tunnel, heat gun, hand tool or turntable wrapper, with the pre-stretch the machine applies.
- Resin
- LLDPE for stretch film: stronger and more puncture resistant than LDPE, so it allows thinner film. For shrink, the polyolefin type.
- Gauge
- Thickness in microns with a tolerance, checked on several rolls rather than one.
- Width, core and length
- Roll width, core size, and roll length or net weight, so you can count what you pay for.
- Shrink behaviour
- Onset temperature, free shrink in both directions at a stated temperature, and shrink force, matched to your tunnel range and bundle weight.
- Stretch and cling
- Many films stretch about 500 percent before breaking but are usually used at about 100 to 300 percent; state your machine's figure and the cling needed.
Tests for shrink and stretch film
- ASTM D2732 and ISO 11501
- Free shrinkage of film on heating, in both directions. Ask for the result at your tunnel temperature and the method used.
- ASTM D2838
- Shrink tension and orientation release stress: the force a shrinking film exerts on a bundle.
- ASTM D5458
- Peel cling of stretch wrap film: how well the layers hold to each other on the pallet.
- ASTM D882, D1922 and BSTI methods
- Tensile and tear of film, with BSTI's BDS 892:1978 and BDS 893:1978 for tear and bursting strength. BSTI's list shows no product standard for either film.
Lead times and delivery
Plain film in standard widths is usually the quickest to supply. Special widths, printed shrink film, extra layers or a new cling level take longer, and imported resin or port clearance can move dates. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.
Rolls are delivered to your plant or warehouse anywhere in Bangladesh, each labelled with width, length, net weight and lot, with the packing list, test report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). A 2024 single-use plastic circular, as reported in the news, names thin films on fast food packaging, so confirm the current rule for your use.
Buying shrink and stretch film for export
EPB records a separate export line for stretch wrapping film, so buyers abroad do source it from Bangladesh. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram with roll lists and test reports. EU duties sit with the EU business: Regulation (EU) 2025/40, which has applied since 12 August 2026, restricts plastic collation and shrink wrap used to group cans and bottles at the point of sale from 2030 and sets reuse targets for transport packaging, pallet wrap included.
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between shrink and stretch film?
Shrink film is oriented in manufacture and tightens when heated, so it needs a tunnel or heat gun; it bundles bottles and overwraps packs. Stretch film needs no heat: it is stretched as it goes on, and its elastic recovery holds a pallet load together.
Why do our pallets lean or come loose in transit?
Look at three things: the stretch your wrapper applies, the film gauge for the load, and cling between layers. Ask for a gauge check and cling to ASTM D5458, and trial a roll on a loaded pallet before you change film.
Why does shrink film come out of our tunnel loose?
Usually the film's shrink behaviour does not suit your tunnel. Ask for onset temperature, free shrink to ASTM D2732 and shrink tension to ASTM D2838 at your tunnel's temperature range, and run a sample through it before bulk.
Can stretch film touch food?
Usually not. Stretch film is not normally made of material rated for food contact, so it belongs on the outside of cartons and pallets. If film may touch food, ask for a food-contact declaration on that exact grade before you order.
How soon will I hear back about plastic packaging and film?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
