Buying caps and closures in Bangladesh
A cap or closure is the moulded part that seals a bottle or jar and lets the user open it, often again and again. Plastic caps are usually polyethylene or polypropylene, often a different plastic from the bottle. Buyers in Bangladesh include water, drink, edible oil, sauce, cleaner and personal care fillers. The closure is often the most critical part of a pack: a poor seal can spoil what is inside.
A caps and closure manufacturer in Bangladesh works to your neck finish, not the other way round. Roptan sources from verified moulders, gets sample caps run on your bottles and capper, has torque and seal checked, and inspects each lot before dispatch. Quotes come on one basis: resin, cap weight, seal and colour.
How to brief a caps and closure manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Neck finish
- The neck drawing or sample bottles. The cap must match the thread, the venting slots and the bead the tamper band locks under.
- Resin and grade
- HDPE or PP in a food-contact grade, taste-neutral for water and drinks. No recycled resin unless its process is authorised for food contact.
- Seal
- A liner, linerless with a deformable rim, or an induction foil liner; for foil, state its layers and your sealing equipment.
- Torque
- Application and removal torque as a range at a stated temperature, tested on your capper. Too loose leaks or backs off; too tight will not open.
- Tamper band and venting
- A band that breaks cleanly on first opening, and venting where pressure changes in processing or storage.
- Fill and processing
- Still, carbonated, hot-filled or heat-treated after capping. Pressure changes in processing or storage decide the venting and seal; carbonated drinks need caps that let gas escape as they open.
- Colour and weight
- Colour against a physical standard, and cap weight in grams with a tolerance.
Standards, tests and paperwork for closures
- ISO 8317
- Child-resistant reclosable packages. It is a type approval test: the report covers the cap and container combination tested, not each production lot.
- 21 CFR 177.1520
- The US section for olefin polymers, which covers the polyethylene and polypropylene in caps. The moulder should hold the resin maker's letter citing it.
- BDS 1910:2016 and BDS 1911:2016
- BSTI standards on polyethylene in contact with food, medicines and drinking water, and the positive list of its permitted constituents.
- Regulation (EU) No 10/2011
- For caps on food sold in the EU, the supplier issues a written declaration of compliance for the plastic.
Lead times and delivery
A cap from an existing mould in a stock colour is usually quicker than a new design, which needs a mould, samples and a trial on your bottles before bulk. Foil liners, special colours and imported resin can add time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum quantity in the quote.
Roptan delivers caps to your filling plant anywhere in Bangladesh, packed clean, with the lot number on each carton so a fault can be traced to a moulding run, plus the resin declaration, your test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). A 2024 government circular, as reported in the news, lists plastic bottles and their caps among single-use items to be phased out, so confirm the current rule for your use.
Buying caps and closures for export
Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram for caps bought from abroad. EU duties sit with the EU filler: since 3 July 2024 Directive (EU) 2019/904 requires plastic caps on drink containers up to three litres to stay attached, and Regulation (EU) 2025/40, which has applied since 12 August 2026, counts caps, lids, seals and liners as part of the packaging.
Questions buyers ask
Why do our caps leak or lose gas?
Usually the cap and neck do not match, the liner is not seated, or the capper applies the wrong torque. Check the cap against the neck drawing, run caps on your own capper within the agreed torque range, and test filled bottles for leaks or loss of gas.
Do we need child-resistant caps in Bangladesh?
We found no Bangladesh rule that requires them for general products. Your buyer or the regulator of a medicine or pesticide may ask for them. If so, ask for an ISO 8317 report on the exact cap and container, since the test approves that design, not each lot.
Should our caps be HDPE or PP?
Both are common. One-piece drink caps are often taste-neutral HDPE; jar caps are usually polypropylene. The seal, dispensing parts and product also decide it. State the resin and grade on the order and ask for its food-contact declaration.
What is a tethered cap?
A cap that stays attached to the bottle after opening. The EU has required it since 3 July 2024 for plastic caps on drink containers up to three litres, other than glass or metal ones. The rule binds sellers in the EU market, so an EU importer of your bottles will ask for it.
How soon will I hear back about plastic packaging and film?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
