Buying BOPP and CPP film in Bangladesh
BOPP is polypropylene film stretched both along and across the machine, which raises its strength and clarity and makes it easy to print, coat and laminate. CPP is cast polypropylene, sold for its heat sealing, often as the inner layer of a pouch. Snack and food packers, converters and label printers in Bangladesh buy both in large rolls, slit to the width of their machines.
Film faults usually show on the press or the sealer, not at delivery. A BOPP and CPP film manufacturer in Bangladesh should state treatment, friction and barrier on named test methods. Roptan sources from verified makers, writes those figures into the order, checks rolls before dispatch and delivers to your plant.
How to brief a BOPP and CPP film manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Type and structure
- BOPP, CPP or a laminate of the two, plain or metallised, and which side is printed or sealed.
- Thickness
- Thickness in microns with a tolerance; it also sets the square metres you get per kilogram.
- Width, core and roll
- Slit width, core diameter and roll diameter or length for your printer, laminator or packing machine.
- Surface treatment
- Corona treatment level in dynes to ASTM D2578, stated for the date of dispatch, with a storage limit.
- Friction, tensile and tear
- Coefficient of friction to ASTM D1894 for machine running, tensile to ASTM D882 and tear to ASTM D1922.
- Barrier
- Water vapour transmission to ASTM F1249 and oxygen transmission to ASTM D3985, each at a stated temperature and humidity so figures compare.
- Seal
- For CPP and laminates, seal strength at your sealing temperature, tested on your machine.
Standards and tests for packaging film
- ASTM D2578
- Wetting tension of polyethylene and polypropylene film, the dyne test. It shows whether ink and adhesive will wet the surface.
- ISO 527-3 and ISO 8295
- ISO methods for tensile properties of film under 1 mm thick and for friction, for buyers who work to ISO.
- BSTI methods
- BDS 892:1978 for tear propagation and BDS 893:1978 for bursting strength of film, with BDS 1913:2016 on plastics for food packaging. BSTI's list shows no BOPP product standard.
- 21 CFR 177.1520 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011
- Food-contact rules for polypropylene in the US and EU. For printed film, also ask what is declared for the inks and adhesives.
Lead times and delivery
Plain film in a standard width is usually quicker than printed film, which waits for artwork approval and new cylinders or plates. Metallising and lamination each add a process, and imported resin can hold up a run. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum order in the quote.
Rolls are delivered to your plant anywhere in Bangladesh, labelled with lot, width, length and net weight, with a roll list, test certificate and VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Use rolls in the order they arrived, as treatment fades. A 2024 government circular, as reported in the news, lists fast food wraps and thin films on fast food packaging among single-use items to be phased out, so confirm the current rule for your use.
Buying BOPP and CPP film for export
EPB records exports of polypropylene film, including a separate line for cast polypropylene film. For buyers abroad, Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram with roll lists, test certificates and food-contact declarations. EU duties sit with the EU importer: Regulation (EU) 2025/40 has applied since 12 August 2026, limits PFAS in food-contact packaging and sets recycled-content minimums from 2030 or later.
Questions buyers ask
Why will ink or adhesive not stick to our film?
Usually the treatment has faded. Polypropylene has an inert, low-energy surface, so film is corona treated, and the effect drops in storage. Ask for the dyne level to ASTM D2578 at dispatch, use older rolls first, and re-treat film that has waited.
Is metallised film as good a barrier as foil?
No. The aluminium layer cuts light, water vapour and oxygen, and metallised film has replaced foil laminates for many snacks, coffee and sweets. Products that need the full barrier still use foil. State the barrier you need with its test temperature and humidity.
Gravure or flexo for printed film?
Gravure prints from an engraved cylinder for each colour, which costs more to set up and favours long runs of one design. Flexo prints from flexible relief plates, which suit shorter runs and frequent artwork changes. Ask for both quotes if your run length is in between.
Is BOPP film made in Bangladesh or imported?
Usually both: BOPP and CPP film are made in Bangladesh, and converters also import film. Roptan quotes verified sellers either way, on the same basis: film type, thickness, treatment, width and roll size.
How soon will I hear back about plastic packaging and film?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
