Buying shapewear in Bangladesh
Shapewear is underwear made to change the line of the body: control briefs, girdles, body shapers, control camisoles, waist cinchers and corselettes. It is graded light, medium or firm, but firmer control comes from tighter fabric and more layers, so two sellers' medium can differ. Importers, retailers and private label brands buy it.
Not every lingerie unit has circular knitting machines, and control words mean little without numbers. Roptan places your order with a verified seller set up for the form, writes control per zone into the spec, has the fabric tested and inspects the bulk.
How to brief a shapewear manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Control per zone
- For front abdomen, sides, hips and back, state the fabric and the force at a set stretch, tested to EN ISO 20932-1 or -2, not the word medium or firm.
- Fabric and layers
- Shapewear is commonly nylon with spandex, and power mesh, a stable hexagonal mesh, often adds compression. State fibre mix, construction, weight and layers per zone.
- Form and closure
- Name the form, the closure and whether the bust is open, strapless or cupped. Each changes the pattern and the size chart.
- Seams and knitting
- If you want circular-knit pieces, ask which seams remain: knitting removes side seams, but not gusset or fastening seams.
- Sizes to test
- List every size, and which sizes the force test must cover. Control that is right in the base size can be loose or tight at the ends of the range.
Tests and labelling for shapewear
- EN ISO 20932-1, -2 and -3
- Elasticity of fabrics by strip test, by multiaxial test and for narrow fabrics such as edge elastics. They replaced EN 14704-1 and EN 14704-3, now withdrawn.
- ISO 13938-2
- Bursting strength and distension of fabric by the pneumatic method, useful for knitted panels that stretch in more than one direction.
- ISO 105-E04, ISO 105-C06 and ISO 105-X12
- Colour fastness to perspiration, washing and rubbing, for dyed nylon and elastane worn tight against the skin all day.
- Regulation (EU) 1007/2011, Annex IV (EU)
- For the EU, girdles may state fibre content for front, rear and side panels, and corselettes for cups, stiffening panels and side panels.
Lead times and delivery
Styles on stock power mesh and stock knits move faster. Made-to-order fabric, circular-knit pieces that need specific machines, built-in cups and force tests in several sizes add time, and each change after a fit sample adds a round. Minimums depend on the same inputs. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your warehouse, shops or online dispatch point, packed flat by style, size and colour in the format set in the order. Each delivery carries a packing list, the force and fastness test reports, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying shapewear for export
Girdles and panty girdles enter under HS 6212.20, corselettes under 6212.30, and corsets and similar articles under 6212.90. US rulings have put shapewear and support camisoles under 6212.90, while rulings on ordinary knitted camisoles have mostly used 6109, so describe each style by construction and use and let your broker confirm. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram.
Questions buyers ask
Is there a standard for light, medium and firm control?
We know of no ISO, EN or ASTM standard that defines them. Firmer control comes from tighter fabric and more layers, so the grade is a construction choice. Write it as fabric and layers per zone, with a force value at a stated stretch and a tolerance.
Can shapewear carry mmHg ratings or health claims?
Keep them off. Shapewear is made to change the body's line, not to treat it. Medical compression garments are rated by pressure in mmHg, and higher grades typically need a doctor's prescription, so describe shapewear control by zone and fabric instead.
Can you source circular-knit shapewear?
Only from sellers with the machines. Not every lingerie unit in Bangladesh has them: one maker said in 2022 that it made almost every lingerie type except these, so we confirm the machines before we quote. Circular knitting removes side seams, not gusset or fastening seams, so confirm which seams remain.
How is a girdle or corselette labelled for the EU?
Under Regulation (EU) 1007/2011, Annex IV, a girdle may give fibre content for the front, rear and side panels, and a corselette for the cups, stiffening panels and side panels. For other corsetry, components under 10 percent of the total weight need not be labelled.
How soon will I hear back about lingerie and underwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
