Buying pyjamas and nightwear in Bangladesh

Nightwear covers pyjama sets, nightdresses, nightshirts and robes, knitted or woven, for adults and children; in South Asia pyjamas are also called night suits. Importers, retailers and private label brands buy them for UK, US and European ranges, and each of those markets treats flammability, children's sizes and labels its own way.

For nightwear, the papers matter as much as the sewing. Roptan places your order with a verified seller, writes your market's test and label rules into the spec, checks the test reports and labels against them and inspects the bulk before it ships.

Kinds of pyjamas and nightwear

Woven pyjama sets

A shirt and trousers in poplin, flannel or light silk, with long or short sleeves and legs. Choose them for classic adult ranges, and name both lengths.

Knit sleep sets

Stretch jersey or rib sets with rib-knit trims, common for young children. For US children's orders, fit decides the test route, so settle it before the fabric.

Nightdresses and nightshirts

A nightdress hangs loose, hip length to floor length, with lace or embroidery at bust or hem; a nightshirt is a loose shirt reaching below the knee.

Robes and dressing gowns

Worn over nightwear, for example in cotton terry or flannel. UK rules count them as nightwear, and US children's sleepwear rules include robes, so test and label them with the set.

Pyjama bottoms

Pyjama pants sold as separates, in long or short leg, with an elastic or drawstring waist. Treat them as nightwear for testing and labels, like a full set.

Briefing a pyjamas and nightwear manufacturer in Bangladesh

Market
UK, US or a European country. The market sets the flammability test, the label and sometimes the fabric, so name it first.
Age group and fit
Adult or children's, with body measurements per size. US children's pieces that are not flame resistant must fit within set maximum dimensions.
Fabric and surface
Poplin, jersey, rib, flannel or satin, and whether the face is brushed: a brushed nap changes how the fabric is tested.
Weight
Ask for g/m2 by test. Light sleepwear fabrics usually sit at about 136 to 203 g/m2.
Set and lengths
Top, bottom and robe as a set or separates, with sleeve, leg and garment lengths in centimetres for each size.
Cords and ties
For children's pieces, the length of every cord, drawstring and tie, checked against EN 14682 for Europe.

Flammability rules and labels by market

UK Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985
Children's nightwear, other than pyjamas, babies' garments and cotton terry bathrobes, must use fabric that passes BS 5722 flammability after washing.
UK labels under the same Regulations
Adult nightwear and the children's exceptions carry KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE in red if they fail the requirements: 10 point capitals, legible and durable, at the neck or beside the size label.
US 16 CFR 1615 and 16 CFR 1616
US children's sleepwear, sizes 0 to 6X and 7 to 14, robes included: pass the flame test, or fit within set maximum dimensions with a snug-fit hangtag.
US 16 CFR 1610
US flammability of clothing textiles, for adult nightwear and robes. Class 3, rapid and intense burning, may not be used for clothing.
EN 14878 and EN 14682 (Europe)
European standards for the burning behaviour of children's nightwear and for cords and drawstrings on children's clothing.

What moves the price of pyjamas and nightwear

  • Market route: for US children's sleepwear, a loose fit means flame-tested fabric and garments, which narrows the fabric choice.
  • Flame-retardant treatment: in the UK, treated fabric needs a wash-limit label and a set wash procedure before its flammability test.
  • Fabric: brushed flannel is tested as a raised-surface fabric in the US, and each new fabric needs its own reports.
  • The set: price follows the pieces in the pack, top, bottom and robe, plus lace or embroidery.

Lead times and delivery

Plain styles in stock fabric move faster. Printed fabric made to order, flame-retardant treatment and flammability or wash tests before bulk add time, and children's orders add fit checks. Minimums depend on the fabric route. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your warehouse or shops, folded flat in a bag or box or on hangers, as set in the order, with flammability and care labels sewn in before packing. The delivery comes with a packing list, flammability and wash reports, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying pyjamas and nightwear for export

Knitted nightwear enters under HS 6107.21 to 6107.29 for men's and boys' and 6108.31 to 6108.39 for women's and girls'; woven under 6207.21 to 6207.29 and 6208.21 to 6208.29. Robes and dressing gowns sit in the other subheadings of the same headings. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with the test reports.

What we check for this order

  • Flammability labelWe check the wording, colour, letter size and place of the market's flammability label on every style.
  • Test report on washed fabricFor UK children's nightwear, we read the flammability report on fabric washed as the Regulations require.
  • US children's papersWe check the Children's Product Certificate, and a passing flame test or tight-fit dimensions within the 16 CFR limits.
  • Cords and final AQLWe measure children's cords against EN 14682, then inspect to ISO 2859-1, usually AQL 2.5 major and 4.0 minor.

Questions buyers ask

Do adult pyjamas for the UK need a flammability test?

No, but they need a label. Under the UK Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985, adult nightwear that does not meet the flammability requirements carries KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE in red. To print LOW FLAMMABILITY TO BS 5722 instead, the fabric must meet them, so ask for the report.

How are US children's pyjamas tested?

Under US 16 CFR 1615 and 1616, the fabric and garment pass a flame test, or the garment fits within set maximum dimensions, for size 7 girls a 63.5 cm chest, with a snug-fit hangtag. Infant garments sized nine months or smaller are excepted.

Can polyester adult nightwear skip the US clothing test?

It can skip guaranty testing, not the standard. Under US 16 CFR 1610, fabrics made wholly of acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester or wool, or of blends of only these, and plain-surface fabrics of 2.6 oz per square yard or more, are exempt from testing to support a guaranty. The garment must still meet the standard.

Is there an EU law on nightwear flammability?

We found no EU-wide law. EN 14878 sets burning behaviour for children's nightwear and EN 14682 covers cords and drawstrings, and a European buyer can name both in the order. Countries may have their own rules, so ask your compliance adviser for each country of sale.

How soon will I hear back about lingerie and underwear?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
