Buying bras in Bangladesh

A bra is a garment of many parts: a typical design has 20 to 48, from band, gore and side panels to cups, wires, straps and closure. Importers and private label brands buy bras for EU, UK and US shelves; shops and online sellers in Bangladesh buy them for local wear.

The seller works to your tech pack, but parts and fit across sizes decide whether bulk matches the sample. Roptan places the order with a verified seller, agrees the size system and parts list, has elastics and findings tested and inspects the bulk.

Kinds of bra

Underwired bras

A metal, plastic or resin wire runs round each cup at the band, adding support, lift and separation. Choose it for fuller cups and shaped T-shirt or lace styles.

Wire-free bras and bralettes

Soft cups held by extra seaming instead of a wire. Bralettes, the lighter form, are usually sized S to XL rather than by band and cup.

Moulded and padded cup bras

Padded cups add foam or other fill; moulded cups are shaped in a mould, and a new shape needs mould development. Ask the seller for the cup source, lead time and minimum.

Sports bras

Encapsulation gives each breast its own shaped cup; compression presses both against the chest. Choose by activity level and cup size, and name it in the brief.

Nursing and maternity bras

Cup flaps open with one hand, and the rear closure usually carries up to four rows of hooks. They need their own pattern and size range.

How to brief a bra manufacturer in Bangladesh

Size system: Name EU, UK or US sizing. EU cups step every 2 cm of bust minus underbust, UK and US cups every inch; French and Spanish bands run 15 cm above EU.
Parts list: Band, gore, side panels, cups, wire, straps, rings, sliders and closure, each with material, size and colour. A part left off is the seller's choice.
Stretch and stable panels: A non-stretch warp-knit stabiliser usually holds the cup seam and centre front; the back and band use elastic or stretch fabric.
Rings, sliders and hooks: Usually plastic, nylon-coated metal or stainless steel; hooks and eyes also in brass, on cotton or silk tape. State the rows of hooks.
Lining for local wear: For bras sold in Bangladesh's heat and humidity, name the lining: cotton is usually chosen to breathe, thin microfibre to wick moisture.

Tests, chemical limits and labels for bras

EN ISO 20932-1 and EN ISO 20932-3: Elasticity of fabrics by strip test (Part 1) and of narrow fabrics such as band elastic and straps (Part 3), measured as force and recovery.
ISO 105-E04, ISO 105-C06 and ISO 105-X12: Colour fastness to perspiration, washing and rubbing. Ask for all three on dark lace, microfibre and dyed elastics.
REACH Annex XVII entry 27 and EN 1811 (EU): Metal parts in direct and prolonged skin contact may release at most 0.5 micrograms of nickel per square centimetre per week; coatings must hold that for at least two years of normal use.
US 16 CFR 303.33 and 16 CFR 423.6: For the US, each imported bra needs the country of manufacture on its label and a care label that can be seen or easily found.

What moves the price of a bra

Sewing time: one Bangladeshi maker said in 2014 that four boxers can be sewn in the time one bra takes.
Moulded cups: a new cup shape needs its own mould development, which adds cost and time.
Lace type: raschel lace is quick to make and common at lower prices; Leavers lace sits in high-end ranges.
Lace placement: matching scalloped edges at every seam wastes lace on each bra.

Lead times and delivery

Bra lead times follow the parts. Styles on stock cups, lace and elastics move faster; new moulded cups, dyed-to-match lace and custom elastics are made to order and set the date. Each change after a fit sample adds a round. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.

Bras enter under HS subheading 6212.10; your customs broker confirms the national line. The UK tariff has a separate line for a retail set of a bra and briefs, so invoice a set as a set. Questions buyers ask

Why is a D cup not the same in EU and UK orders?

The letter steps at a different rate. EU sizing adds a cup for every 2 cm between bust and underbust; UK and US sizing adds one per inch, 2.54 cm. The gap, about 21.6 percent, grows with cup size. Name one system and grade from it.

Our old spec sheet cites EN 14704. Is that still valid?

No. EN 14704-1 and EN 14704-3 were withdrawn in 2020. EN ISO 20932-1 now covers strip tests and EN ISO 20932-3 narrow fabrics such as elastics. Ask the lab to report to these parts, against the force and recovery values of your approved sample.

Are bra hooks covered by the EU nickel limit?

Often, if they are metal and in direct and prolonged contact with the skin. REACH entry 27 gives its examples, such as zippers, as an open list. Ask your compliance adviser to confirm the scope, and have the hook tape and slider lot tested to EN 1811.

Should a sports bra encapsulate or compress?

It depends on the activity and the cup size. Compression presses both breasts against the chest as one; encapsulation gives each its own moulded cup and looks like an everyday bra. The choice changes the pattern and the parts list.

How soon will I hear back about lingerie and underwear?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
