Buying briefs and boxers in Bangladesh

Briefs and boxers are men's and boys' underpants: close-fitting briefs, trunks and boxer briefs, usually in jersey knit with elastane, and loose boxer shorts, often woven. Importers, retailers and private label brands buy them singly and in multipacks; shops and online sellers in Bangladesh buy them for everyday wear in a hot, humid climate.

Underpants are simple to sew, so buyers judge them on fit, waistband and fabric after washing. Roptan places your order with a verified seller, fixes leg length in centimetres in the spec, has fabric and elastic tested and inspects the bulk.

Kinds of briefs and boxers

Briefs

Short, close-fitting underpants in full-rise, mid-rise, low-rise or bikini cuts, with or without a front fly. Give the rise in centimetres, since rise names differ between makers.

Trunks

Close-fitting like briefs, with a short leg. The word is used loosely: in the UK and Australia it often means boxer briefs, so state the inside leg rather than the name.

Boxer briefs

Long in the leg like boxers but close-fitting like briefs, usually cotton with spandex and a separate elastic waistband, often printed. Choose them for branded retail ranges.

Woven boxer shorts

Loose shorts in cotton or cotton-polyester, cut with a balloon seat because the fabric does not stretch, and a fly closed by snaps, a button or an open overlap.

Knitted boxer shorts

The loose boxer cut in jersey knit: softer than woven, with some stretch, and classed with the other knitted underpants in customs. Choose them for lounge ranges.

What to tell a briefs and boxers manufacturer in Bangladesh

Cut, rise and leg
Name the cut, then give rise and inside leg in centimetres for each size. Trade names for cuts and rises vary between makers and markets.
Fly and seams
State the fly (keyhole, button or snap, pouch or none) and the rear seam, since some boxer briefs avoid a centre seam. Fix both before the first sample.
Fabric
Fibre, knit and elastane percentage, plus weight in g/m2. Undergarment knits usually sit in a light band of about 136 to 203 g/m2; confirm the approved fabric's weight by test.
Waistband
A separate elastic: give width in millimetres, fibre and construction. Woven elastic resists rolling and twisting; knitted elastic is softer and common in underwear.
Size range
Core sizes usually run XS to XL. For plus sizes, set the grade and elastic length at sampling instead of scaling the middle size.

Tests and labelling for briefs and boxers

ISO 5077 and ISO 16322-3
Dimensional change after washing, run with the ISO 6330 wash procedures, and spirality, the twist of knitted garments after laundering.
EN ISO 20932-3
Elasticity of narrow fabrics, used for waistband and leg elastic. Set a force and recovery value after repeated washing on the approved sample.
ISO 105-E04, ISO 105-C06 and ISO 12945-2
Colour fastness to perspiration and washing, and pilling of the knit by the modified Martindale method, both visible early on dark underwear.
Regulation (EU) 1007/2011 (EU)
Only a single-fibre product may say 100 %, pure or all, so cotton with elastane lists each fibre. Labels follow the language of the Member State of sale.

What moves the price of briefs and boxers

  • Fabric: fibre, knit and weight set most of the cost, since underpants are quick to sew.
  • Elastane share: more spandex adds stretch and recovery, and cost, to the jersey.
  • Waistband: a custom printed or jacquard elastic is a separate bought-in part with its own minimum.
  • Construction: a fly, pouch or contoured rear seam adds pattern pieces and sewing steps.
  • Presentation: multipack cards, boxes, hangtags and barcodes are priced per pack.

Lead times and delivery

Plain styles on stock fabric and elastic move faster. Dyed-to-order fabric, a custom printed or jacquard waistband and all-over prints take longer, and each fit change adds a sample round. Minimums depend on the same inputs, especially the waistband elastic. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your warehouse, shops or online dispatch point. Briefs and boxers are usually packed flat folded in a bag or box, in the multipack, hangtag and barcode format set in the order. The packing list, test reports, inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3) travel with each delivery.

Buying briefs and boxers for export

Knitted underpants enter under HS 6107.11 (cotton), 6107.12 (man-made fibres) or 6107.19 (other fibres); woven ones under 6207.11 (cotton) or 6207.19 (other fibres). Heading 6107 also covers pyjamas and robes, so describe each style as underpants or briefs. For the EU, the importer must make sure the fibre label is supplied. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with test reports.

What we check for this order

  • Waistband after washingWe have a sample washed and check the waistband does not roll or twist and recovers to the approved length.
  • Shrinkage before cuttingWe read ISO 5077 shrinkage and spirality results on bulk fabric before it is cut, so sizes hold after washing.
  • Label against the lab reportWe check the fibre label matches the tested composition, with elastane listed, before labels are printed.
  • Final AQL inspectionRandom inspection to ISO 2859-1, usually AQL 2.5 major and 4.0 minor, covering waistband joins, leg openings, fly and pack counts.

Questions buyers ask

Are trunks and boxer briefs the same thing?

Not always. Trunks can mean a shorter-leg boxer brief, but in the UK and Australia boxer briefs themselves are often called trunks. The name alone can produce the wrong leg length, so give inside leg and rise in centimetres for each size and approve a fit sample.

Can cotton briefs with elastane say 100 % cotton in the EU?

No. Under Regulation (EU) 1007/2011, only a product made wholly of one fibre may say 100 %, pure or all; up to 2 percent of unavoidable extraneous fibre is tolerated. Elastane added for stretch is part of the design, so the label lists cotton and elastane with their shares.

Which customs code do knitted and woven boxers use?

Knitted styles fall under heading 6107, at 6107.11 for cotton, 6107.12 for man-made fibres and 6107.19 for others. Woven boxers fall under 6207, at 6207.11 for cotton and 6207.19 for others. Both headings also hold pyjamas, so describe each style as underpants on the invoice. Your customs broker confirms the national line.

Which waistband elastic should we choose?

Woven elastic for a firm band that resists rolling and twisting; knitted elastic for a softer feel. Give the width in millimetres and the fibre, say if the band carries a printed name, and set a recovery value after washing on the approved sample.
