Buying recycled granules in Bangladesh

Recycled granules are plastic scrap re-melted into pellets for a second use. In Bangladesh they are made from local scrap, gathered through an informal recovery network, and go into products such as plastic pipes, sheets and frames. A Department of Environment study reported in 2021 found only about 36 percent of the country's plastic waste recycled, and a recycled granule supplier in Bangladesh competes for that scrap.

Roptan sources from verified local recyclers. We write your polymer, source, colour and limits into the order, ask each recycler for the same lot tests, get you a sample for a trial on your machine before bulk, and keep a retained sample of the lot you accept. Then we deliver.

Kinds of recycled granule

Recycled polyethylene

HDPE, LDPE or LLDPE recyclate for film, pipe and moulding. Ask for a density range, since it separates HDPE from LDPE and shows blending.

Recycled polypropylene

PP recyclate for moulding. PP and PE have similar densities and are hard to separate by float-sink, so set a maximum for the other polyolefin.

Mixed polyolefin

The light PP and PE fraction left after sorting, sold as a low-value product. Choose it only for goods that can accept a mixed melt.

Recycled PET

Much PET bottle scrap here leaves as cleaned flake for export, a separate product. Recycled PET pellets are a separate order; state the viscosity you need.

PVC regrind

Ground PVC scrap with its own European characterisation standard. Order it for PVC products only, and keep it out of polyolefin lots.

How to specify a recycled granule

Scrap source
Post-industrial scrap, such as trimmings, sprues and rejects, is clean and of known type and grade; post-consumer scrap varies in contamination and colour. Say which you accept.
Polymer purity
The base polymer and a maximum for other polymers, since output quality depends strongly on how well the scrap was sorted.
Lot tests
Melt flow, density, ash and moisture, each as a range with its method. Ash shows filler; density shows blending.
Colour
Natural, light or black. Clear recyclate can be dyed later, while strong colour limits what you can make from it.
Odour, gels and specks
Re-melting at about 150 to 320 °C can degrade plastic and leave odour or discolouration, so set limits for odour, gels and black specks.
Food contact and claims
Say whether the product touches food and whether you will print a recycled-content claim, since both need papers from the recycler.

Test methods and rules for recycled granules

ISO 1133-1, ISO 1183-1, ISO 3451-1 and ISO 15512
Melt flow, density, ash and water content of granules: the four lot tests behind most recycled granule orders.
EN 15344, EN 15345, EN 15346 and EN 15348
European characterisation standards for PE, PP, PVC and PET recyclates, current in their 2025, 2025, 2024 and 2024 editions, written to help buyer and seller agree a specification.
Regulation (EU) 2022/1616
Recycled plastic for food contact in the EU must come from a listed or assessed recycling technology and from qualifying waste. A seller offering food grade must show the authorisation.
BSTI recycling guideline
BSTI lists a Bangladesh guideline for the recovery and recycling of plastics waste. Ask a recycler how its process follows it.

What moves the price of a recycled granule

  • Colour: clear and natural recyclate is worth more than black or strongly coloured, which limits the colour of the next product.
  • Source and sorting: clean post-industrial scrap of known grade is valuable; mixed polyolefin sells as a low-value product.
  • Scrap supply: a 2021 report put local and imported scrap together at only about a third of the industry's demand.
  • Specification: quotes compare only on the same specification, because sorting accuracy varies between recyclers.

Lead times and delivery

No figure can be given in advance. A recycler with sorted scrap and stock on hand moves fastest; a lot made to your specification waits on enough suitable scrap, then on the lot tests and your machine trial. Minimums depend on the recycler's stock and line. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Roptan delivers to your plant anywhere in Bangladesh with the lot number on every bag, the lot test results, a packing list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Part of the approved sample is kept, so a later lot can be compared with it. Store bags dry and covered in the monsoon.

What we check for this order

  • Source in writingWe confirm the scrap source and polymer the recycler uses, post-industrial or post-consumer, against your order.
  • Lot testsWe compare melt flow, density, ash and moisture on each lot with your ranges and the stated methods.
  • Retained sampleWe keep a sample of the lot you approve, since a first lot proves little without one to compare later lots against.
  • Papers for claimsFor any food-contact or recycled-content claim, we ask for the authorisation and traceability records before you order.

Questions buyers ask

Are recycled granules made from imported scrap?

Usually not. Bangladesh bars waste imports unless the Import Policy Order allows them. In 2021, PET flake and polyester fibre makers in export processing zones could import scrap under bond, and others needed commerce ministry clearance. If a seller offers granules from imported scrap, ask for the permit.

How do we judge a recycled lot?

Compare its lot tests with the retained sample of the lot you approved, then run it on your machine. Ash shows filler, density shows blending, and odour, gels or discolouration point to poor sorting or heat damage in re-melting.

Can recycled granules go into food packaging?

Only with approval for that use. In the EU, Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 limits food-contact recycled plastic to listed or assessed recycling technologies and qualifying waste. Without that authorisation, use recycled granules for non-food goods.

Can we print a recycled-content claim?

Only on a documented basis. Ask the recycler for traceability records under EN 15343, which covers tracing recycled plastics and calculating recycled content, and base a self-declared claim on ISO 14021:2026, the current edition, valid since 24 June 2026.

How soon will I hear back about polymers and resins?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
