Buying PVC resin in Bangladesh

PVC resin is the powder that converters here turn into pipes, fittings, water tanks, flooring, cable insulation, synthetic leather and shoe soles. Plasticiser added at compounding decides whether the end product is rigid or flexible. One plant in Narayanganj has made PVC resin since September 2022, but most resin is still imported, so a PVC resin supplier in Bangladesh should state the origin of each lot.

Roptan sources the kind and K value you name from verified sellers, local or imported, and tells you which. Each seller gives the same certificate values to the same methods: K value, volatile matter, apparent density and residual vinyl chloride. We check the lot against your limits and deliver it.

Kinds of PVC resin

Suspension resin, pipe grade

Suspension polymerisation makes about 80 percent of PVC, as particles of about 100 to 180 micrometres. Pipe grades are usually around K 67. Choose it for rigid pipe, profiles and film.

Low K moulding grade

Around K 57, described by the local plant for injection moulded fittings. Choose it when you mould fittings rather than extrude pipe.

High K film and cable grade

Around K 70, described for packaging film, calendered film and cable. Choose it for film and cable work.

Emulsion or paste resin

Much finer particles, about 0.2 micrometres, mixed with plasticiser into a paste for coating, gloves and artificial leather. No producer was found in Bangladesh, so expect it imported.

Copolymers and CPVC

Vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate copolymers, and chlorinated PVC at 67 percent chlorine or more, which tolerates higher temperatures. Buy these only against a full data sheet.

How to specify PVC resin

End product and process
Pipe, fitting, profile, cable, film, flooring or coated fabric, and whether you extrude, mould, calender or coat. This fixes the kind and K value.
K value
A range, not one number, with the method. Lower K grades go to moulded fittings, higher ones to film and cable.
Volatile matter
Water and other volatiles, as a maximum percentage on the certificate.
Apparent density
The bulk density of the powder. It sets your feed rate and how much powder fits a mixer batch or a bag.
Residual vinyl chloride
The measured value on every certificate. Vinyl chloride monomer is accepted as a carcinogen, so it matters most for food-contact, medical and drinking water products.
Thermal stability
PVC starts to degrade near 250 °C, earlier than other commodity polymers. Ask for a stability value; stabilisers are added at compounding, not in the resin.

Test methods for PVC resin

ISO 1628-2
Reduced viscosity, also called viscosity number, and K value of PVC resins. The 2020 edition is current; ask the certificate to name it.
ISO 1269 and ISO 60
Volatile matter including water, and apparent density of loose powder. Ask for both on each lot certificate with a stated limit.
ISO 6401
Residual vinyl chloride by headspace gas chromatography, reading concentrations from 0.1 to 3.0 mg/kg. Ask for the measured figure, not a statement that it complies.
BSTI test methods
BSTI lists Bangladesh Standards for the viscosity number and K value of PVC and for thermal stability by the Congo red test. Ask a local lab which method it applies.

What moves the price of PVC resin

  • World markets: PVC follows the international resin price, which rose in mid-2026 after the Middle East crisis and an energy supply crunch.
  • Local or imported: industry insiders say locally made resin has cost more per kilogramme than imported resin.
  • Import duty: resin from abroad carries duty on top of the producer's price.
  • Exchange rate and freight: imported lots move with the taka and with sea freight to Chattogram.

Lead times and delivery

There is no standard figure. Pipe and film grades held by importers or the local plant move fastest; paste resin and specialist grades come from abroad and wait on the producer, sea freight and clearance at Chattogram. A trial run before bulk adds time. Overseas sellers often quote by the container, and stock lots can be smaller. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Roptan delivers to your plant anywhere in Bangladesh, usually in 25 kg bags with the lot number on each. You receive the lot's certificate of analysis, the safety data sheet, a packing list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Keep the bags dry and off the floor in the monsoon.

Buying PVC resin for export

EPB records PVC resin exports for FY2025-26 on a specific line, HS 3904 10, and the local plant reported an order from India in 2022. EPB does not name the producer, so ask whether your lot was made here. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram with the lot certificate and the seller's ERC.

What we check for this order

  • Origin and producerWe confirm whether the resin was made in Bangladesh or imported, and that the certificate is the producer's, for your lot.
  • K value and methodWe check the K value sits inside your range and was measured to ISO 1628-2, not on another basis.
  • Residual monomerFor food-contact, medical or drinking water products, we check the vinyl chloride figure is on the certificate.
  • Trial before bulkWe ask for a sample for a trial run on your line before bulk, and match bag lot numbers to the certificate.

Questions buyers ask

What K value do we need for PVC pipe?

Usually K 65 to 68. The local plant and importers both sell pipe grades around K 67. Lower grades near K 57 are described for moulded fittings and higher ones near K 70 for film and cable. State a range and the test method.

Is PVC resin made in Bangladesh?

Yes, at one plant in Narayanganj since September 2022, in grades described from about K 57 to K 70. Imports still cover most demand: a 2026 report puts about 70 percent of PVC and PET resin demand together on imports. No local paste resin producer was found.

Is the resin rigid or flexible?

Neither yet. The same resin becomes rigid PVC for pipes and window profiles, or flexible PVC for cable sheath, flooring and synthetic leather, once plasticiser is added at compounding. Tell us the end product so the kind and K value fit.

Do stabilisers matter if we export finished goods?

Yes, for the compound. Lead-based stabilisers have been discontinued in Europe, where calcium-based systems grew as the alternative, so ask what a compound bound there contains. The resin carries no stabiliser, so put this question to your compounder.

How soon will I hear back about polymers and resins?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
