Buying acrylic polymers in Bangladesh

Acrylic polymers come in two broad forms: water-borne emulsions that bind emulsion paint, waterproof coatings, adhesives and floor coatings, and solid acrylic, mainly PMMA, for sheet and moulded parts. Kinds of acrylic polymer

Pure acrylic emulsions

Acrylic polymer dispersed in water. Paints with a larger acrylic share are described as giving better stain protection, water resistance and adhesion. Choose them where those matter most.

Styrene-acrylic emulsions

Acrylic copolymerised with styrene, one of the common binders in emulsion paint. Choose them after a trial against pure acrylic in your formula, and get the chemistry stated in writing.

Modified and copolymer emulsions

Silicone-modified pure acrylics, vinyl acetate based emulsions and redispersible powders are also sold. Choose them only against a data sheet that names the chemistry.

Solvent-borne acrylic resins

Acrylic resin dissolved in solvent rather than water. Choose it when your coating system is solvent based, and ask for the safety data sheet before the first delivery.

PMMA moulding granules

Solid acrylic, poly(methyl methacrylate), melt-processed by extrusion or moulding. Cast acrylic sheet is a different route, made by casting the monomer in a mould. Choose granules for clear moulded or extruded parts.

How to specify an acrylic polymer

Form and chemistry: Emulsion, solvent resin, solid bead or PMMA granules, and for emulsions the chemistry named on the data sheet: pure acrylic, styrene-acrylic or another.
End use: Paint, waterproof coating, adhesive, textile finish, sheet or moulding, and whether the finished product touches food.
Solids: The non-volatile content as a percentage, with the drying conditions used to measure it.
Viscosity: The value in mPa·s with the spindle and speed, since a rotational viscometer reads differently at other settings.
Film formation: Minimum film-forming temperature for emulsions, and glass transition temperature by differential scanning calorimetry, each as a range in °C.
PMMA values: Melt flow with its temperature and load, density and light transmittance. PMMA transmits up to 92 percent of visible light at 3 mm and has a density of 1.17 to 1.20 g/cm³.

Test methods and papers for acrylic polymers

ISO 3251 and ISO 2555: Non-volatile content of paints, varnishes and plastics, and apparent viscosity of resins and emulsions by rotational viscometer. Ask that each certificate names both methods.
ISO 2115: White point temperature and minimum film-forming temperature of polymer dispersions. Ask for the MFFT on every lot of emulsion.
ISO 11357-2 and ISO 13468-1: Glass transition temperature by DSC, and total luminous transmittance of transparent materials, the clarity test for PMMA.
21 CFR 177.1010 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011: Food-contact rules for rigid and semirigid acrylic plastics in the US and for plastics in the EU. Ask for the producer's compliance letter for the grade.
BSTI emulsion paint standards: BSTI lists Bangladesh Standards for emulsion paint and economy emulsion paint. They set limits for the paint, not the resin, so paint makers set the emulsion specification to meet them.

What moves the price of an acrylic polymer

Chemistry: pure acrylic, styrene-acrylic and modified grades are priced apart, so compare offers on one chemistry.
Solids: an emulsion is part water, so compare offers per unit of solids, not per kilogramme of liquid.
Import costs: imported grades move with the exchange rate and sea freight.
World markets: other resins rose in price in Bangladesh in mid-2026 after the Middle East crisis; acrylics were not reported, so ask how long a quote holds.

It depends on the job. Paints with a larger share of acrylic resin are described as giving better stain protection, water resistance and adhesion than vinyl-based paints, and styrene-acrylic is another common emulsion binder. Name the chemistry on your order, and trial both in your formula before you choose.

What does MFFT tell us?

The minimum film-forming temperature is the lowest temperature at which a dispersion forms a continuous film, measured with the white point under ISO 2115. Ask for it on every lot alongside solids and viscosity, and hold it to a range.

Is PMMA the same as acrylic fibre?

No. PMMA is often called simply acrylic, but the word also covers polymers containing polyacrylonitrile, used for acrylic fibre. Write emulsion, solid resin or PMMA granules on your order so the right product is quoted.

How soon will I hear back about polymers and resins?
