Buying protective gear in Bangladesh
Protective gear is what a player wears against impact from a ball, a stick or a fall: helmets, face protectors, shin guards, leg pads and body guards. Clubs, schools, academies, shops and brands buy it, and importers buy against named standards. A test report covers only the exact design that was tested.
A protective gear manufacturer in Bangladesh may hold a helmet report for one shell and quote another. Roptan writes the standard, edition, materials and sizes into the order, sources from verified makers, checks that each report names this model, and inspects the bulk against the tested sample.
How to specify protective gear
- Sport and level
- The sport, position and level of play, since they decide the standard and rules the gear must meet.
- Standard and edition
- Name the standard with its full edition, such as BS 7928:2013+A1:2019 for cricket helmets, and the lab that will test.
- Shell, foam and grille
- Shell material, foam type and thickness, and for helmets grille material and spacing. A change to any of them can change the test result.
- Sizes
- Junior and adult size ranges, with a tested sample in each size the report must cover.
- Straps and extras
- Straps and closures, a neck protector for helmets, and ankle protection for shin guards if you want it.
- Market marking
- Where the gear will be sold, so the right marking, labels and user information are planned before the sample.
Standards and papers for protective gear
- BS 7928:2013+A1:2019
- The British Standard for head protectors for cricketers. The 2019 amendment added neck protectors, so an older report does not cover one. BS 7928-2:2009 covers keepers' face protectors.
- BS EN 13061:2009
- Requirements and test methods for shin guards for association football players. Ask the lab which edition it tests to.
- EN 13546, EN 14120 and EN 13277
- European standards for field hockey protectors, roller sports protectors and martial arts protective equipment. Use the one for your sport.
- Regulation (EU) 2016/425
- In the EU, sports protectors can be personal protective equipment. Depending on the risk category, CE marking may need EU type-examination by a notified body, and the importer keeps the declaration of conformity.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on whether the design already has a valid report. A tested model in its tested sizes is quicker; a new shell, grille or foam, an added neck protector or a new size needs fresh tests, and an EU certificate from a notified body adds more. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per model and size in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to clubs, schools, academies and shops with the packing list, copies of the test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Ask for helmets boxed singly so shells and grilles are not scuffed.
Buying protective gear for export
Export quotes are FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), or air from Dhaka for samples. In the US tariff, safety headgear sits under 6506.10 and sports guards usually under 9506.99; your broker confirms the line. Papers usually cover the invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, REX or UK DCTS origin papers, test reports and, for the EU, the declaration of conformity.
Questions buyers ask
Which standard applies to cricket helmets?
BS 7928:2013+A1:2019. Since the 2019 amendment it also covers neck protectors, so an earlier report does not. Ask for a report naming the exact helmet, sizes, shell, liner and grille.
Are helmets compulsory in cricket?
In high-risk positions, usually yes. Published summaries of the rules say the ICC requires helmets there: batting against fast or medium pace, keeping up to the stumps and fielding close in. England and Wales made neck protectors compulsory for batting and close fielding from October 2022, and Cricket Australia against fast or medium pace from October 2023.
Do shin guards sold in the EU need CE marking?
Sports protectors can be personal protective equipment under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The maker assesses the risk category, and the category decides whether a notified body must examine the type. Ask your EU lab or notified body to confirm the route for your guard before the sample is tested.
Which body guards should a cricket kit include?
It depends on the player. Leg pads and batting gloves cover the shins and hands. Abdominal, thigh, arm, chest and elbow guards are added by choice: some batters wear them and some do not, since they reduce mobility. Order them as separate items so each player picks a set.
How soon will I hear back about sports goods?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
