Buying balls in Bangladesh

A ball is bought on a few measured numbers: size, weight, circumference, pressure and bounce, plus the cover and how its panels are joined. In Bangladesh, clubs, schools, academies, sports shops and companies buy footballs, volleyballs, basketballs and cricket balls for play, training and promotion. Match balls for official competitions carry stricter rules than training balls.

A ball manufacturer in Bangladesh, or any seller, can show one good sample and ship a bulk that varies. Roptan writes the size, weight and pressure limits into the order, sources from verified sellers, and weighs and measures balls from the bulk against the approved sample.

Kinds of ball

Stitched footballs

Usually panels of leather, synthetic leather, polyurethane or PVC, machine-stitched or hand-stitched over a latex or butyl bladder. Stitches can be sealed with glue to limit water uptake.

Thermo-bonded footballs

Panels glued and bonded by heat along the edges instead of stitched. Choose them when you want a ball with no stitching at the seams.

Futsal and junior footballs

Sizes 1 to 4 for younger players and training, and futsal balls, which FIFA's 2018 test manual inflates to a lower 0.6 bar against 0.8 bar for outdoor balls.

Volleyballs and basketballs

Indoor volleyballs usually measure 65 to 67 cm around and weigh 260 to 280 g; beach balls run softer. Basketballs vary by league and age, from about 69 cm for youth to 75 cm in the NBA.

Cricket balls

A cork core wound with string under a stitched leather cover. Four-piece covers with a raised six-row seam are usually the higher grade; two-piece balls usually cost less and suit practice.

How to specify a ball

Sport and size
The sport, size number and age group, and whether the ball is for matches, training or promotion, since the rules and tests follow from that.
Weight and circumference
Each with the range you accept. A size 5 football under Law 2 weighs 410 to 450 g and measures 68 to 70 cm.
Pressure and bounce
The inflation pressure the ball is measured at, the rebound you expect, and how much pressure loss you accept over a stated time.
Cover and construction
Cover material and thickness, panel count and shape, and machine-stitched, hand-stitched or thermo-bonded joining.
Bladder and valve
Latex or butyl bladder, and the valve type, named in the quote so the bulk matches the sample.
Print and logo
Logo positions, colours and print method, checked against any competition rules on advertising.

Laws, tests and marks for balls

IFAB Laws of the Game, Law 2
A match football is spherical, 68 to 70 cm around and 410 to 450 g at the start of the match, inflated to a stated pressure at sea level.
FIFA Quality Programme for Footballs
Marks for match balls in official competitions: FIFA QUALITY PRO, FIFA QUALITY and FIFA BASIC. Tests cover weight, circumference, sphericity, rebound, water absorption, pressure loss and shape retention.
Laws of Cricket, Law 4
A men's ball weighs 155.9 to 163 g and measures 22.4 to 22.9 cm around; women's and junior balls are smaller.
BS 5993:1994
The British specification for cricket ball construction, dimensions, quality and performance, still sold in its 1994 edition. Ask the lab whether it tests to it.

What moves the price of a ball

  • Cover: leather, synthetic leather, polyurethane or PVC, and the cover thickness.
  • Joining: hand-stitched, machine-stitched or thermo-bonded panels.
  • Bladder and valve: latex or butyl, and the valve fitted.
  • Marks and tests: a FIFA mark needs lab testing of the model before the order.
  • Print: the number of colours and logo positions per ball.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on how new the ball is. A seller's current model in stock colours with your logo is quicker; a new panel design, new moulds for bonded balls, custom colours and lab tests for a FIFA mark take longer. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per model and colour in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to clubs, schools, academies, shops and offices with the packing list, any test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Tell us whether balls should arrive inflated or flat with pumps and needles.

What we check for this order

  • Weight on accurate scalesWe weigh balls from the bulk against the approved sample and the limits for that size.
  • Circumference and shapeWe measure circumference and look for uneven panels or seams that pull the ball out of round.
  • Pressure heldWe inflate balls to the stated pressure and recheck after storage, so slow leaks show before dispatch.
  • Marks and printAny FIFA mark is backed by a licence or lab report for this model, and logos match the sample.

Questions buyers ask

Do training footballs need a FIFA mark?

No. The Laws require a FIFA Quality Programme mark only on match balls in official FIFA or confederation competitions, and a national FA may require one for its own. For training and promotional balls, set weight, circumference, rebound and water uptake in the order and test to your own method.

Can our company logo go on a match ball?

Not in official competitions under FIFA, the confederations or national FAs: the only branding allowed is the competition logo, the organiser and the authorised maker's trademark. Training and promotional balls can carry your logo. Check the competition rules before you print.

How are FIFA ball tests done?

Under FIFA's 2018 testing manual, in a room at about 20 degrees Celsius and 65 per cent humidity, after at least 24 hours of conditioning. Water absorption is weighed after 250 compressions in water, pressure loss after 72 hours, and shape after 2,000 shots at a steel plate at 50 km/h.

What is the difference between two-piece and four-piece cricket balls?

A four-piece cover with a raised six-row seam is usually the higher grade. A two-piece cover usually costs less and is popular for practice and lower-level games. Both have a cork core wound with string; state the weight for men's, women's or junior play.

How soon will I hear back about sports goods?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
