Buying parkas in Bangladesh
A parka is a hooded cold-weather coat, usually filled with down or synthetic fibre, and its hood may carry faux fur. The word overlaps with anorak, and sources put its length anywhere from hip to knee. Bangladesh's winter is mild, so export buyers usually drive parka orders; at home they are a small, seasonal line.
Because one word covers several coats, a parka manufacturer in Bangladesh may quote a shorter or lighter coat than you pictured. Roptan fixes length, closure, fill and trim in the order, sources from verified factories, compares quotes on the same build and checks the shell, filling and every detachable part before shipping.
How to brief a parka manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Length and closure
- Hip, thigh or knee length as a centre-back measurement for each size, plus the front closure. Sources disagree on what parka length means, so the number decides.
- Warmth
- For a measured warmth figure, ask for the thermal resistance of shell, fill and lining together to ISO 11092; one clo, the clothing insulation unit, is 0.155 m2K/W.
- Fill
- Down by fill power and filling weight per size, because warmth depends on both; synthetic fill by grams per square metre.
- Shell water performance
- A repellent shell quotes an ISO 4920 spray result, a waterproof one a hydrostatic head to ISO 811; the spray test does not predict rain penetration.
- Care label
- Symbols to ISO 3758. Down fill and a faux fur trim may need different care from the shell, so the seller should propose the label and test it.
Tests and standards for parkas
- ISO 11092
- Thermal and water-vapour resistance measured on a sweating guarded hotplate; the 2026 edition replaced the 2014 one.
- EN 342 and EN 14058
- Cold-protection workwear: EN 342 for garments against cold of minus 5 degrees C and below, EN 14058 for cool environments. Only for protective claims.
- IDFB methods and EN 12132
- Down tested by a lab that IDFB certifies; the shell tested for down-proofing by rubbing (EN 12132-1) and impact (EN 12132-2).
- Regulation (EU) 2024/2462
- From 10 October 2026, limits PFHxA, its salts and related substances in textiles in clothing for the general public. For a shell with a repellent finish, ask for a fluorine-free finish or a test report.
Lead times and delivery
Sample rounds usually take four to six weeks in all, and every detachable liner, hood or trim must be sampled and approved; re-grading a military pattern adds a fit round. Buying-house figures for outerwear run about 100 to 140 days from order to FOB. Minimums usually start around 1,000 pieces per style and colour. Roptan confirms dates and minimums in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, parkas suit the December to February cool season, when January nights average about 10 degrees C in most of the country. Roptan delivers anywhere in Bangladesh, each liner and trim packed with its shell, with the packing list, inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying parkas for export
Woven parkas usually enter under HS 6201 (men and boys) or 6202 (women and girls), knitted ones under 6101 or 6102, and parkas in fabric coated or laminated with plastics or rubber (headings 5903, 5906 and 5907) under 6210. Your customs broker confirms the subheading. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong) with the fill, shell and inspection reports.
Questions buyers ask
How long is a parka?
No fixed length. Sources describe parkas both as hip-length and as reaching the thighs or knees, and the word is also used for anoraks, which are usually shorter. Put the centre-back length per size in the order, with a tolerance.
Can a children's parka have a hood drawstring?
Check the size range first. Under 16 CFR 1120, children's upper outerwear in sizes 2T to 16 with drawstrings that fail ASTM F1816-97 is a substantial product hazard. The hood and neck ban runs to size 12, so even a coat sized 12 to 14 falls under it. In Europe, EN 14682 applies up to age 14.
What should a quote say about the hood trim?
The trim fibre (polyester, nylon, acrylic or modacrylic pile), pile length, colour, how it attaches and whether it detaches, plus a care instruction tested on the trim. Without these, two quotes for a fur-trimmed parka cannot be compared.
How warm will the parka be?
Fill and fabric alone give no temperature. For a measured figure, test shell, fill and lining together for thermal resistance to ISO 11092. Temperature claims for workwear come from EN 342 testing; fill weight bands are guidelines only.
How soon will I hear back about jackets and outerwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
