Buying fleece jackets in Bangladesh
A fleece jacket is a zipped jacket in napped polyester fleece: soft, warm and quick to dry, but neither windproof nor waterproof, so outdoor ranges often pair it with a shell. Inside Bangladesh it suits the mild December to February cool season, and importers buy it for autumn and winter ranges in virgin or recycled polyester.
Fleece faults such as pilling, matting and shrinkage appear after wear and washing, not on the hanger. A fleece jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh should state the measured gsm and pile and back them with test reports. Roptan writes these into the order, sources from verified factories and checks washed fabric and finished jackets before shipping.
How to brief a fleece jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Weight in gsm
- The measured weight in grams per square metre, on a stated test method. ISO 3801 is written for woven fabrics, so ask which method the lab used for knitted fleece.
- Pile
- High or low loft, one-sided or two-sided, and an anti-pill finish. Raising lifts fibre ends into a nap, and napped fabric can pill, abrade and flatten more easily.
- Pilling grade
- A grade to ISO 12945-2 (modified Martindale) after a stated number of rubs, on washed fabric. No neutral source gives a pass grade, so set your own.
- Shrinkage and care
- Dimensional change to ISO 5077 after ISO 6330 washing, and a care label to ISO 3758 that warns against hot washing, tumble drying and ironing, which can damage fleece.
- Colour rubbing
- Rubbing fastness to ISO 105-X12, dry and wet, for dark fleece that will sit against lighter garments.
Tests and standards for fleece jackets
- 16 CFR 1610 (US)
- Fleece counts as a raised-surface fabric. Fabrics made entirely of polyester, acrylic or other listed fibres are exempt from testing; a blend with cotton is tested, and Class 3 may not be used in clothing.
- GRS and its successor
- GRS certifies recycled content and chain of custody and bans harmful chemicals. Its successor, the Materials Matter Standard, takes effect on 31 December 2026 and becomes mandatory on 31 December 2027.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100
- Tests every thread, button and accessory against over 1,000 harmful substances. Jackets are its example of product class 3; articles in direct skin contact fall in class 2.
Lead times and delivery
Sample rounds usually take four to six weeks in all. One buying-house table gives 75 to 100 days from order to FOB for fleece hoodies and sweatshirts; a zipped jacket with more trims may take longer, and fleece knitted and dyed to order, anti-pill finishing and GRS paperwork add time. Minimums usually run from a few hundred to over a thousand pieces per style and colour. Home-market jackets should land before December; Roptan confirms dates in the quote.
Roptan delivers fleece jackets to offices, schools and stores anywhere in Bangladesh, packed by size or branch, with the packing list, fabric test and inspection reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). January nights in most of the country fall to about 10 degrees C, so place winter orders early.
Buying fleece jackets for export
The customs heading of a fleece jacket depends on its construction and the importing country's rulings, so the quote carries the HS code your broker names. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong) with the fabric reports, any GRS documents and the final inspection report. For the US, all-polyester fleece is exempt from 16 CFR 1610 testing; a blend with cotton needs a test result.
Questions buyers ask
What do micro, 100, 200 and 300 mean?
They are trade classes for fleece weight, from light to heavy, and the heavier classes are warmer. They are not a standard, so ask the seller for the measured gsm on a stated method and approve a swatch at that weight before bulk.
Does recycled fleece need a certificate?
GRS is a common route. It certifies products with at least 20 percent recycled content, pre-consumer or post-consumer, with third-party certification and chain of custody, and a GRS label for consumers needs at least 50 percent. Textile Exchange's Materials Matter Standard takes effect on 31 December 2026, so ask which version the certificate covers.
Does fleece shed microfibres, and can it be tested?
Yes. Washing synthetic textiles such as fleece releases microfibres. ISO 4484-1 and ISO 4484-3 measure material lost in laboratory washing, but they set no limits and do not correlate directly with home laundering, so any limit comes from your buyer or market.
Is fleece fabric made in Bangladesh?
Knit fabric largely is: local mills meet about 75 to 80 percent of knitwear makers' fabric demand, against 35 to 40 percent for woven (BTMA figures reported in 2023). No figure covers fleece alone, so ask the seller to name the fabric source in the quote.
How soon will I hear back about jackets and outerwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
