Buying denim jackets in Bangladesh
A denim jacket, also sold as a jean jacket or trucker jacket, is a short jacket in woven cotton or cotton-blend denim, usually with a buttoned front, chest pockets and a back yoke. Brands and importers buy it raw or washed, rigid or stretch, and lined with sherpa or fleece for cooler months.
A denim jacket carries more design points than jeans, and the laundry changes its colour and its measurements. A denim jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh needs every point fixed before sampling, so Roptan writes them into the order, sources from verified factories and wash houses, and approves the wash on a size-run sample.
How to brief a denim jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Denim weight
- Usually 10 to 14 oz per square yard, as a number with a tolerance and test method. For g/m2, multiply by 33.9057: 14 oz is about 475 g/m2.
- Fibre and stretch
- The full fibre content, which can change the customs line, and for stretch denim the elastane share and an elasticity result to EN ISO 20932-1.
- Design points
- Collar, closure and button count, chest pockets (patch, set-in or bellows) and flaps, epaulets, cuffs, back yoke, waist tabs or banded hem, hem shape and locker loop.
- Wash and shade
- The wash recipe and a shade band approved on a washed sample, with the wash house held to that recipe for every bulk lot.
- Seams
- Flat-felled seams from a double-needle machine, bar tacks, thread size and stitch density, named by ISO 4915 stitch types and ISO 4916 seam types.
Tests and standards for denim jackets
- EN 1811:2023 and REACH entry 27
- The reference method for nickel release from articles in direct, prolonged skin contact, used for entry 27 of REACH Annex XVII. Ask for it on metal buttons and rivets.
- ISO 105-X12, C06 and E04
- Colour fastness to rubbing (dry and wet), laundering and perspiration. Indigo can stain lighter pocket linings in the wash, so set the grades for your shade.
- 16 CFR 1500.91 (US children's sizes)
- Lists dyed cotton textiles within US lead limits but, of metals, only certain stainless steels and precious metals; plating is no barrier, so other metal snaps and rivets need a lead test.
Lead times and delivery
Samples usually take three to four weeks from tech pack approval, longer while the wash is developed. One sourcing agency gives 60 to 90 days of production after pre-production sample approval for denim, and imported denim adds processing time. A size run measured after washing and hardware tests come before bulk. Minimums usually run about 500 to 1,500 pieces per style and colour. Roptan confirms dates and minimums in the quote.
Buyers in Bangladesh get door delivery and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3); export bulk goes to your forwarder at Chattogram or Dhaka. Mould can grow on clothing at 62 to 93 percent relative humidity with warmth, and the June to September monsoon is very wet, so ask for dry packing and desiccant in sea containers.
Buying denim jackets for export
The customs line depends on build, fibre and size; your broker confirms it. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), and sea transit to European ports usually adds about three to five weeks. Documents: invoice with full fibre content, packing list with pieces and weight per carton, bill of lading, any REX statement, and test reports.
Questions buyers ask
Can you source black or grey denim jackets?
Yes. Indigo coats mainly the outside of the yarn, which is why blue denim fades with washing and wear. Black and other colours usually come from sulphur dyes. Ask which dye system the fabric uses, and set rubbing and washing grades for dark shades.
Which finishes can a denim jacket have?
Stone, enzyme, bleach and laser, alone or combined. Laser can replace manual abrasion and marking, though some designs still need a hand touch. Some buyers ban sandblasting; if yours do, we write it into the order.
Why does a denim jacket change size after washing?
Cotton denim shrinks in the wash, and the change can differ across sizes. Sanforised fabric is shrunk and fixed before cutting, and 50 x 50 cm coupons washed in production conditions show the real figure for the pattern. Approve sizes measured after the wash.
Is the denim fabric made in Bangladesh?
Usually. Industry sources quoted by The Daily Star in March 2026 put local mills at around 70 percent of domestic denim fabric demand, with the rest imported. Imported denim adds processing time and cost, so the quote should name the fabric source for both the shell and any lining.
How soon will I hear back about jackets and outerwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
