Buying padded jackets in Bangladesh
A padded jacket has an insulating layer quilted between shell and lining: down, or polyester fibrefill, called wadding or batting when it forms a layer. Importers order padded jackets for autumn and winter ranges. Inside Bangladesh the cool season is short, December to February, with January days averaging about 16 to 20 degrees C in most of the country.
A sketch alone lets each seller choose how much filling goes in, so a padded jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh should quote against a written fill specification. Roptan writes fill type, weight and test method into the order, sources from verified factories, has the filling checked on finished jackets and inspects the bulk.
How to brief a padded jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Filling and its label
- Down or polyester wadding. For down, state the down share for the label; in Europe, EN 12934 sets how feather and down composition is labelled.
- Wadding weight by zone
- Grams per square metre for body, sleeves and hood, each stated separately. A higher figure is a thicker, warmer layer.
- Fill power with its method
- The figure with its test method, IDFB or EN, and the issuing lab, since a fill power result depends on both.
- Filling per size
- Grams of down or wadding in each size. Fill power rates the loft of the down, not the amount inside.
- Down-proof shell
- Shell fabric tested to EN 12132-1 (rubbing) and EN 12132-2 (impact). A downproof tag is a claim, not a result.
Tests and standards for padded jackets
- IDFB test regulations
- The International Down and Feather Bureau writes the down test methods (latest June 2023) and certifies more than 30 labs. Ask for the fill power, composition and cleanliness report from one.
- 16 CFR 1610 (US)
- US clothing flammability rule. All-nylon or all-polyester shells, and plain fabrics of 2.6 oz/yd2 or more, are exempt from testing; other plain fabrics are Class 1 at a burn time of 3.5 seconds or more.
- Regulation (EU) 2024/2462
- From 10 October 2026, clothing textiles for EU consumers may not hold 25 ppb or more of PFHxA and its salts, or 1,000 ppb or more of related substances. Some fluorinated repellents contain them.
Lead times and delivery
Samples usually take four to six weeks across proto, fit and pre-production rounds, and lab reports on the down lot and down-proof shell must be back before cutting. One buying-house table gives 100 to 140 days from order to FOB for outerwear and padded jackets. Minimums usually start around 1,000 pieces per style and colour, often more at large export plants. Roptan confirms dates and minimums in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, jackets for the December to February cool season should arrive by late November. Roptan delivers to offices, stores or warehouses in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur or any other city, packed by size or branch, with the packing list, filling and inspection reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying padded jackets for export
Woven padded jackets usually enter under HS 6201 (men and boys) or 6202 (women and girls), headings that name anoraks and ski-jackets; knitted shells go to 6101 or 6102. Your customs broker confirms the subheading from fibre and build. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong) with the IDFB lab report, any RDS certificate and the final inspection report.
Questions buyers ask
How much wadding does a padded jacket need?
State grams per square metre by zone. Outdoor retail guides usually band 100 to 150 g/m2 for all-purpose jackets, around 120 g/m2 being common, and 150 to 200 g/m2 or more for static cold: guidelines, not standards or temperature ratings.
What does down on the label have to mean?
It depends on the market. As IDFB summarises the rules, a US product advertised as down needs at least 75 percent down cluster, and one sold as down in Europe at least 60 percent defined down. Check the importing country's rule before printing.
Is RDS still the standard for responsible down?
Yes. Textile Exchange left down out of the first version of its Materials Matter Standard, launched in December 2025, so the Responsible Down Standard stays in use. It bans live plucking and force-feeding and has third-party audits from the farm onwards, with chain of custody to the product.
Can you supply padded jackets for cold-store or outdoor work?
Yes, when the protective claim is defined. Garments for cold work are tested to EN 342, for minus 5 degrees C and below, or EN 14058, for cool environments. A fashion jacket with no protective claim needs neither.
How soon will I hear back about jackets and outerwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
