Buying PABX and IP PBX systems in Bangladesh

A PABX, or PBX, is a private phone network that gives an organisation its own extensions and routes calls between them and the outside lines. An IP PBX does the same job over Internet Protocol, as a hardware box or as software. Offices, banks, hospitals, hotels and factories in Bangladesh buy them for internal calls and outside lines.

Quotes from a PABX and IP PBX system supplier in Bangladesh are hard to compare when one counts handsets, another counts licences and a third leaves out the network switch. Roptan writes one specification, sources from verified sellers, checks the papers for any radio handsets and arranges installation and programming through the seller.

Kinds of PABX and IP PBX system

Analogue or digital PABX

An exchange on your premises serving plain analogue phones or the maker's digital handsets over telephone wiring. Choose it when the building already has phone cabling and every user sits on site.

Hardware IP PBX

A box on your data network that sends calls as data to IP desk phones. Choose it for offices cabled for data, several floors or buildings, and staff who change desks.

Software IP PBX

The same exchange running as software on a server you own, sometimes called a soft PBX. Choose it when your IT team already runs servers and prefers to add extensions by licence.

Hosted or cloud PBX

Run by a provider, with no exchange on site; it still needs a reliable internet link and gateways to ordinary lines. Choose it for small offices that cannot house an exchange, once the provider shows the service is lawful for your calls.

How to brief a PABX and IP PBX system supplier in Bangladesh

Extensions by type
Count analogue phones, IP desk phones and DECT cordless sets, now and planned. Proprietary handsets usually work only with one maker's exchange; open SIP phones are easier to replace.
Outside lines
State analogue lines or SIP trunks from a licensed operator, and how many calls run at once. Analogue lines suit only small systems and can miss an incoming call during an outgoing one.
Features
List the auto attendant, voicemail, IVR, direct inward dialling and call detail records you need, so every quote prices the same licences.
Power for IP phones
IP phones are often powered over the network cable: up to 15.4 W per port under IEEE 802.3af, 30 W under 802.3at. State the switch's total PoE budget.
Call security
SIP only sets up the call; the voice travels separately on RTP. For confidential calls, ask for TLS on set-up and SRTP on voice.
Backup runtime
Load shedding was reported in Dhaka in August 2026. State in hours how long the exchange, switch and phones must run on battery, UPS or generator.

Standards and papers for a PABX or IP PBX

EN IEC 62368-1:2024
Safety of audio, video and ICT equipment, covering the exchange, IP phones and power units. The 2020 edition was withdrawn in May 2024; ask for the report for each model.
RFC 3261 (SIP)
The protocol most IP phones and SIP trunks use to set up calls. Ask the seller to confirm the handsets, exchange and operator trunk all support it.
BTRC permission and an NOC for radio handsets
Treat DECT cordless handsets, Wi-Fi phones and GSM gateways as radio equipment: ask for the importer's BTRC enlistment certificate, valid 2 years, and the shipment's NOC.

What moves the price of a PABX or IP PBX

  • Ports and licences: each extension, trunk channel and feature such as voicemail can carry a licence.
  • Trunk type: SIP trunks over an IP link avoid primary rate circuits and their gateway hardware.
  • Handsets: proprietary sets with displays tie you to one maker; open SIP phones give more choice.
  • PoE switching: IP phones may need a new or larger switch with enough power per port.
  • Backup power: the hours of runtime you ask for the exchange, switch and phones.

Lead times and delivery

A small analogue exchange with handsets the seller holds is usually quickest. A large IP system imported to order, cordless handsets waiting for the importer's BTRC NOC, new data cabling or lines the operator still has to connect all add time. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum order in the quote.

The seller delivers to your site anywhere in Bangladesh, mounts the exchange, connects the outside lines, programmes extensions, call groups, the auto attendant and voicemail, and tests each extension and trunk. Ask for the numbering plan, a copy of the configuration, user training and a written warranty, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Extension and trunk countWe match the quoted ports, licences and SIP channels to your extension list, so nothing is added later.
  • Radio handset papersFor any DECT, Wi-Fi or GSM item, we ask for the importer's BTRC enlistment certificate and the shipment's NOC.
  • Safety report for each modelWe check that the exchange and phones quoted have an EN IEC 62368-1 report naming the exact models.
  • Lawful call routingWe confirm outside lines come from licensed operators and nothing routes international calls around the licensed gateways.

Questions buyers ask

Do we need an IP PBX, or will an analogue PABX do?

It depends on cabling and growth. If the building has telephone wiring and all staff sit on site, an analogue or digital exchange works. If you are cabling for data anyway, have several sites or want IP desk phones, choose an IP PBX. A hosted PBX removes the box but depends on your internet link.

Is an office IP PBX allowed in Bangladesh?

The BTRC actions we found target illegal international call termination, not office exchanges. International calls are meant to pass through licensed International Gateways, and BTRC has fined operators over SIMs used to bypass them. Keep outside lines with licensed operators.

Do cordless phones need BTRC papers?

Treat them as if they do. DECT handsets are radio equipment, and almost all radio equipment enters Bangladesh through an importer holding BTRC's enlistment certificate, with a No Objection Certificate for each shipment. Ask the seller for both before you order.

Can we keep our existing phones?

Often, if they are plain analogue phones: an exchange can usually serve analogue extensions alongside IP phones. Digital handsets built for one maker's exchange usually work only with that system, so list your phones and ask the seller to mark each keep or replace.

How soon will I hear back about pabx, PA and sound systems?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
