Buying intercom systems in Bangladesh

An intercom is a stand-alone voice system for use inside a building that works independently of the public telephone network. Door entry versions add a station at the gate or entrance, a handset or monitor in each flat or office, and often a door release. Apartment buildings, offices, hospitals, schools and factory compounds in Bangladesh buy them.

An intercom system supplier in Bangladesh has to match the system to the cable in the building, which often decides between analogue, two-wire digital and IP. Roptan collects the flat, gate and cable details, sources from verified sellers, checks the papers for any wireless or GSM unit, and arranges installation and testing through the seller.

Kinds of intercom system

Audio door phones

Two-way speech between the entrance and each flat, usually with one call button per flat. Choose it for smaller buildings where residents do not need to see the caller.

Video door phones

A camera at the entrance and a monitor inside, so the caller is seen before the door opens. Choose it for apartment blocks, clinics and offices with unattended entrances.

Wired analogue intercoms

Room-to-room units on a conductor pair with a low-voltage DC supply, typically 12, 30 or 48 V. Choose it for a few points close together; cable length and unit count limit it.

IP intercoms

Stations on Category 5 network cable, often powered over it. SIP-based units can be dialled like a phone extension. Choose it for offices and campuses with a data network.

Access control door stations

Entry stations that also open the door by code, magnetic card or smart card. Choose them where residents or staff enter without calling anyone.

How to brief an intercom system supplier in Bangladesh

Flats, rooms and gates
Count flats or offices, entrances and gates, plus any guard or reception station. These numbers set the system's size and layout.
Wiring layout
Door entry usually runs as conventional 4 + n wires, simplified 1 + n wires for buildings with two or three gates, or digital two-wire for large buildings. Say what cable exists.
Door release
State whether each flat releases the door through an electric strike, and whether that lock should open or stay locked in a power cut: fail-safe or fail-secure.
Outdoor stations
About 80 percent of the year's rain falls in the monsoon. Ask for the IP code of gate stations: IP54 is splash-proof, IP65 jet-proof and dust-tight.
Calls to phones
Say whether door calls should ring PABX extensions or mobile phones, since that decides between a SIP-based IP station and a GSM unit.
Power and backup
IP stations draw up to 15.4 W per port under 802.3af or 30 W under 802.3at, more with heaters or screens. Put the switch or power supply on a UPS for load shedding.

Standards and papers for intercom systems

EN IEC 62820-1-1:2026
General system requirements for building intercoms used for entry to residential and commercial buildings. The 2016 edition was withdrawn in May 2026; check which edition the seller's papers cite.
EN IEC 62820-3-1:2018
Application guidelines for planning, installing, commissioning, operating and maintaining building intercoms used for security. A useful checklist for the design and handover.
EN IEC 62368-1:2024
Safety of intercom stations and monitors as ICT equipment. Ask for the report for each model quoted.
BTRC permission and an NOC
For wireless, DECT or GSM intercoms: ask for the importer's BTRC enlistment certificate, valid 2 years, and the NOC for the shipment.

What moves the price of an intercom system

  • Audio or video: a camera at the door and a monitor at each point add to every station.
  • Analogue or IP: IP stations need network ports and PoE switching; analogue needs its own cable runs.
  • Number of stations: every flat, room and gate adds a unit and a cable run.
  • Wiring layout: two-wire digital needs fewer conductors than 4 + n wiring in tall buildings.
  • Door hardware: electric strikes, keypads and card readers at each controlled door.

Lead times and delivery

Audio door phones for a small building, from stock, are usually quickest. Large video or IP systems imported to order, new cable in occupied buildings, and wireless or GSM units waiting for the importer's BTRC NOC all take longer. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum order in the quote.

The seller surveys the building, delivers anywhere in Bangladesh, runs or reuses cable, fixes door stations, indoor units and strikes, and programmes the flat numbers. Each station is tested for calls, video and door release. Ask for a wiring schedule and a written warranty, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Station and gate countWe match the quoted indoor units, door stations and power supplies to your list of flats, rooms and gates.
  • Door release in a power cutWe confirm the fail-safe or fail-secure setting of each electric strike matches what you asked for.
  • Outdoor ratingWe check the IP code on the datasheet of every gate and entrance station before the order is placed.
  • Papers for wireless and GSM unitsFor any wireless, DECT or GSM unit, we ask for the importer's BTRC enlistment certificate and the shipment's NOC.

Questions buyers ask

Can the intercom ring our PABX or mobile phones?

Yes, with the right kind. SIP-based IP intercoms can be addressed like a phone extension, so a door station can ring a desk phone on an IP PBX. GSM intercoms call landline or mobile numbers over the cellular network. Decide which phones should ring before the seller quotes.

Can we reuse the old intercom cable?

Sometimes. A digital two-wire system carries every function on two wires, so it may suit an existing pair; IP stations need Category 5 cable. Tell the seller the cable type in each riser and ask for a survey before the quote.

What happens to the door lock in a power cut?

It depends on the strike. A fail-safe lock releases when power fails, so people can leave; a fail-secure lock stays locked, so the building stays closed. Choose for each door with whoever prepares your fire safety plan, and put the intercom supply on a UPS.

Do wireless intercoms need BTRC papers?

Treat them as radio equipment. Almost all radio equipment entering Bangladesh needs BTRC permission: the importer holds an enlistment certificate and obtains a No Objection Certificate for each shipment. Ask the seller for both before you order a wireless, DECT or GSM unit.

How soon will I hear back about pabx, PA and sound systems?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
