Buying PA systems in Bangladesh

A public address system carries speech and music through amplifiers to loudspeakers spread across a site. Distributed systems usually drive a 70 V or 100 V speaker line, so dozens of speakers share one cable. Factories, schools, hospitals, malls and mosques in Bangladesh use PA for paging, background music and, where designed for it, evacuation messages.

A PA system supplier in Bangladesh should quote a design, not a box count: zones, speaker taps, amplifier headroom and a speech clarity target. Roptan turns your plans into that specification, sources from verified sellers, checks equipment and certificates, and arranges installation, zoning and a measured handover through the seller.

Kinds of PA system

Speech and music systems

A compact amplifier and mixer, usually about 50 to 200 W, with a few speakers. Choose it for a hall, canteen, prayer space or event venue where one zone is enough.

Distributed multi-zone PA

Amplifiers on a 70 V or 100 V line feed ceiling, wall and horn speakers in several zones. Choose it for factories, schools and malls that page one area at a time.

Telephone paging

Announcements made from a PABX extension, through paging built into the exchange or a separate paging controller. Choose it for offices and hotels where staff page from desk phones.

PA over IP

Network amplifiers and speakers that receive audio over the data network. Choose it for a campus that already has data cabling between buildings.

Voice alarm

PA built for emergency and evacuation messages, which must meet speech intelligibility requirements. Specify it apart from commercial PA, with control equipment to EN 54-16 and loudspeakers to EN 54-24.

How to brief a PA system supplier in Bangladesh

Zones and priority
List each zone, which zones page together, and the order of priority: emergency message over paging, paging over music. Say which line and amplifier faults must be supervised.
Speaker line voltage
State 70 V or 100 V. On a constant-voltage line each speaker's transformer tap sets its power, so volume is set per location and thinner cable serves long runs.
Amplifier size
Add up the tap powers in each zone. Sellers usually size the amplifier roughly 10 to 20 percent above that total to cover transformer losses.
Outdoor rating
About 80 percent of the year's rain falls in the monsoon. Ask for the IP code of every outdoor speaker: IP54 is splash-proof, IP65 jet-proof and dust-tight.
Speech clarity target
Write a minimum Speech Transmission Index into the order and ask for STIPA measurements in each zone at handover.
Backup runtime
State how many hours the amplifiers and controls must run on battery, UPS or generator during load shedding.

Standards for PA and voice alarm

EN 54-16 and EN 54-24
The 2008 standards for voice alarm control and indicating equipment and for voice alarm loudspeakers. For any part of an evacuation system, ask for the certificate naming the exact model.
CEN/TS 54-32
Guidance, not a harmonised standard, on planning, design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of voice alarm systems.
EN IEC 60268-16:2020
Rates speech intelligibility as a Speech Transmission Index from 0 to 1. STIPA, the simplified method designed for PA, takes about 15 to 25 seconds per reading.
EN IEC 62368-1:2024
Safety of amplifiers, mixers and other audio equipment. Ask for the report for each model quoted.
BNBC 2020 Part 4 and FSCD
Fire protection rules for buildings and Fire Service and Civil Defence approval. Agree any evacuation PA with whoever prepares the building's fire safety plan.

What moves the price of a PA system

  • Zones and speakers: each zone needs routing and amplifier capacity, and each speaker adds cable and fixing.
  • Amplifier power: total tap power plus headroom sets the amplifier size.
  • Cable: a 70 V or 100 V line uses thinner cable than a low-impedance system over the same run.
  • Outdoor rating: higher IP codes for exposed horns and wall speakers.
  • Voice alarm: certified, supervised evacuation equipment against plain commercial PA.

Lead times and delivery

A single-zone hall system from stocked parts is usually quickest. Multi-zone sites take longer for cabling and ceiling work, certified voice alarm parts may be imported to order, and agreeing the design with the fire safety plan can set the date. Roptan confirms dates, and any minimum, in the quote.

The seller surveys the site, delivers anywhere in Bangladesh, runs and labels the speaker lines, sets each tap and zone level, and records any messages. At handover ask for STIPA readings per zone, a zone and speaker schedule, a backup runtime test and the warranty, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Amplifier load per zoneWe compare each zone's total tap power with the amplifier rating, so no amplifier runs without headroom.
  • Voice alarm certificatesFor an evacuation system, we ask for EN 54-16 and EN 54-24 certificates naming the exact control unit and loudspeakers.
  • Outdoor speaker ratingsWe check the IP code on the datasheet of every horn and wall speaker going outdoors.
  • Measured speech clarityWe ask for STIPA readings in each zone at handover and compare them with the STI target in the order.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between PA and voice alarm?

A PA system pages and plays music. A voice alarm carries evacuation messages and must meet speech intelligibility requirements, with control equipment and loudspeakers certified to EN 54-16 and EN 54-24 and faults supervised. A building can have both; specify the voice alarm separately and agree it with the fire safety plan.

Should we use 70 V or 100 V speaker lines?

Both work the same way: each speaker's transformer tap sets its power, and the line voltage does not change with the number of speakers, as long as the amplifier is not overloaded. The choice usually follows local practice and the equipment offered.

How big should the amplifier be?

Add the tap power of every speaker on it, then allow headroom. A common rule puts the amplifier roughly 10 to 20 percent above the speaker total to cover transformer losses; a 10 W speaker draws about 11.1 W.

What STI score should we ask for?

STI bands run from bad below 0.3 to excellent above 0.75, and a score of at least 0.5 is usually described as desirable for most uses. We found no Bangladesh figure, so write your target into the order and ask for STIPA readings in each zone after installation.

How soon will I hear back about pabx, PA and sound systems?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
