Buying motorcycle batteries in Bangladesh
A motorcycle battery is a small lead-acid battery, usually 12 V, that starts the engine and feeds the lights and ignition. Established Bangladeshi makers produce them alongside car and IPS batteries. Dealers, workshops and importers buy them for the replacement trade, which follows the number of bikes on the road. A press report of BRTA data puts 2025 registrations at 289,830 motorcycles, 10.3 percent more than in 2024.
Roptan finds the motorcycle battery manufacturer in Bangladesh that makes your sizes and checks that the test report names the motorcycle standard and the exact model. Before dispatch we record date codes and check fit against your sample, and you deal with Roptan alone.
How to specify a motorcycle battery
- Voltage
- State 12 V or 6 V to match the electrical system of the bikes you serve.
- Size and terminals
- Give length, width and height in mm, the terminal type and the side the positive terminal sits on. Size codes vary, so send a sample battery or its label.
- Capacity
- Give the capacity in Ah and ask the seller to name the discharge rate behind it, so quotes compare on one basis.
- Cranking current
- One common definition is the current at -18 °C for 30 seconds while holding at least 7.2 V. Other methods differ, so name the one you compare on.
- Heat and mounting
- Heat is a main cause of battery failure: electrolyte evaporates and grid corrosion speeds up. Say whether the battery sits near the engine, where a Bangladeshi summer adds to the heat.
- Accessories
- A starter battery is not built for deep discharge. Say if riders fit extra lights or alarms, because repeated flat batteries cost capacity.
Standards and test reports for motorcycle batteries
- IEC 60095-7:2019
- Requirements and test methods for lead-acid starter batteries for motorcycles and other power sport vehicles, 12 V or 6 V. Ask for a type test report naming this part and your model.
- IEC 60095-1 is the wrong part
- Part 1 covers starter batteries in general but expressly leaves out motorcycles, so a motorcycle battery report citing only part 1 tests the wrong thing.
- Dangerous goods entries
- The US hazardous materials table lists filled batteries as Class 8, UN 2794, non-spillable ones as UN 2800, and a separate acid pack as UN 2796. Ask which entry applies.
- Safety data sheet
- An SDS to GHS for the battery and any acid pack, for carriers, warehouses and your customs broker.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends mostly on whether your sizes are models the maker already builds. A standard model under the maker's label is quicker; your own label adds artwork and sample approval, and an untested size needs a type test first. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per model in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to dealers, workshops and distributors, cartons upright with terminals capped, and flooded batteries come with the maker's filling instructions. You receive the type test report, a date-code list by carton, written warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying motorcycle batteries for export
For importers we quote FOB Chattogram. Motorcycle batteries usually fall under HS subheading 8507.10, starter batteries; your customs broker confirms the line. The seller supplies the dangerous goods papers for the correct entry, the SDS and the IEC 60095-7 report, with the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and, for EU GSP buyers, a REX statement on origin.
Questions buyers ask
Should I stock flooded or sealed motorcycle batteries?
It depends on your buyers. Sealed AGM batteries cannot spill, need no water and stand up to vibration, so they suit riders who never open the seat. Flooded batteries cost less but need topping up, which suits markets where workshops do that routinely.
Why do motorcycle batteries fail early in hot weather?
Heat speeds up the two things that wear a lead-acid battery out: the electrolyte dries and the grids corrode faster, and a battery near the engine runs hotter still. Repeated flat batteries from extra lights or alarms add to the damage, because starter batteries are not built for deep discharge.
Is an e-bike battery the same product?
No. An electric bike runs on a traction pack that powers the motor, and IEC 60095-7 states that it does not apply to e-bike batteries. For e-bikes, see our page on lithium battery packs.
Are lithium motorcycle batteries worth the extra cost?
Only with evidence. They weigh less, and their makers claim many more starts than lead-acid, but those claims come from the makers themselves. IEC 60095-7 is a lead-acid standard, so ask what the lithium model was tested to before you compare it with a sealed AGM battery.
How soon will I hear back about batteries?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
