Buying lithium battery packs in Bangladesh

A lithium battery pack is a set of lithium cells wired in series and parallel, with a battery management system (BMS) and a case. In Bangladesh packs are assembled from imported cells; making the cells locally is only starting. Solar installers, e-bike and battery rickshaw makers and backup users buy them, though lead-acid still holds most of the market.

Roptan finds the lithium battery pack manufacturer in Bangladesh that fits your voltage, load and use. We check the cells named in the quote, the BMS limits, the charger and the UN 38.3 test summary for the exact design, so the pack arrives with the papers a carrier asks for.

Kinds of lithium battery pack

12.8 V LFP replacement packs

Four lithium iron phosphate cells of 3.2 V nominal in series give 12.8 V, close to a six-cell lead-acid battery. Choose one to replace lead-acid, with the charger reset for lithium.

Storage and backup packs

Larger LFP packs for solar storage, UPS and telecom sites, in a rack or wall case. Choose them for daily deep cycling, with industrial safety tests.

E-bike and light EV packs

Packs for e-bikes and other light electric vehicles, most often built from cylindrical cells, matched to the motor's voltage and current.

NMC packs

Nickel manganese cobalt and similar cells hold more energy for their size, but LFP is more stable under heat. Choose NMC only where size and weight decide.

How to specify a lithium battery pack

Voltage, capacity and energy
Give nominal voltage, Ah and Wh. Voltage follows the cells in series: 3.2 V per LFP cell, so 16 in series give 51.2 V.
Cells
Name the chemistry and cell format, cylindrical, prismatic or pouch, and get the cell origin and grade in writing.
BMS
The BMS stops over-charge, over-discharge, over-current and running too hot or cold. State its cut-off values and the continuous and peak current.
Charger
LFP cells are damaged above 3.6 V per cell and must not fall below 2.5 V, and lead-acid equalising or trickle charging does not suit them. Buy the charger with the pack.
State of charge reading
LFP voltage stays almost flat between roughly 20 and 80 percent charge, so ask how the BMS estimates charge.
Cycle life
LFP is often quoted at more than 3,000 cycles under most conditions. Ask for a test report at a stated depth of discharge and temperature.
Cold markets
Charging below 0 °C plates lithium on the negative electrode and can make the pack unsafe, so packs for cold countries need a low-temperature charge cut-off.

Safety standards and transport tests for lithium packs

UN 38.3
Every lithium cell and battery type must pass these UN transport tests before it ships. Ask for the test summary, with test lab, report number and Wh rating, not a statement of compliance.
IEC 62619:2022
Safety of lithium batteries for industrial use, including stationary storage, telecom and UPS. The 2017 edition was withdrawn in 2022; ask for a report to the current one.
IEC 62133-2
Safety of portable sealed lithium cells and their batteries, for packs in portable products.
EN 50604-1
The European safety standard for lithium batteries in light electric vehicles such as e-bikes.

What moves the price of a lithium battery pack

  • Cells: grade and origin set much of the cost, so packs of the same Ah can differ widely.
  • BMS: current rating, protections and charge estimation add cost, and a weak BMS shortens pack life.
  • Capacity: more Ah means more cells, a larger case and heavier wiring.
  • Chemistry: lithium costs nearly twice as much as lead-acid by one Bangladeshi press report.
  • New designs: each needs its own UN 38.3 testing before it can ship.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends mostly on whether the seller already builds and has tested your pack. A new design needs cells on hand, a BMS set to your limits and a UN 38.3 test before it ships, which takes longer. Dangerous goods bookings can also move the date. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to installers, workshops and sites with terminals covered and packs kept dry; for storage packs the seller installs and commissions the bank. You receive the cell and BMS details, the UN 38.3 summary, a serial list, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying lithium battery packs for export

For importers we quote FOB Chattogram; lithium-ion packs usually fall under HS subheading 8507.60, confirmed by your broker. Packs alone ship as Class 9, UN 3480, and packs inside or with equipment as UN 3481. Under IATA rules, packs shipped alone by air travel on cargo aircraft only, unless approved, at no more than 30 percent charge. US rules require the Wh rating on each case.

What we check for this order

  • Test summary for this designWe check that the UN 38.3 test summary matches the pack quoted: same model, cells and Wh rating.
  • Cells as quotedWe check cell markings on a sample pack against the chemistry, format and origin quoted.
  • BMS and charger settingsWe check the BMS cut-offs, current rating and charger voltage against your order.
  • Shipping stateWe check charge level, Class 9 marks and, for US buyers, the Wh rating on each case.

Questions buyers ask

Can I replace a lead-acid battery with a 12.8 V lithium pack?

Often, yes, since four LFP cells in series give 12.8 V. But the charger must be set for lithium: lead-acid equalising and trickle charging can damage LFP cells, and so can more than 3.6 V per cell. Check the charging system before you swap.

Are lithium packs made in Bangladesh?

They are assembled here from imported cells: the seller assembles cells made abroad, a BMS and a case into the pack, and local cell making is only starting. Ask where the cells come from and who tested the design.

Should I choose LFP or NMC cells?

LFP for most storage, backup and vehicle packs: it is more stable under heat. NMC holds more energy for its size, so the pack is smaller and lighter; pick it only where space or weight decides, with a strong BMS.

Can lithium packs travel by air?

Packs on their own, UN 3480, cannot go on passenger aircraft under IATA rules without special approval. On cargo aircraft they ship at no more than 30 percent charge unless the authorities approve, and from 2026 packs packed with equipment face the same limit. Plan for part-charged packs.

How soon will I hear back about batteries?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
