Buying IPS and UPS batteries in Bangladesh

An IPS (instant power supply) is the inverter and battery that keeps fans and lights running through load shedding in Bangladeshi homes, recharging from the grid afterwards. A UPS protects computers and equipment, usually carrying the load for 5 to 15 minutes. The two duties wear a battery differently.

Roptan finds the IPS and UPS battery manufacturer in Bangladesh whose model fits your duty, helps you size the bank from your load, and checks that every battery is new and charged. The seller installs and commissions larger banks; you deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of IPS and UPS battery

Tall tubular flooded batteries

The positive plate is a row of lead-oxide tubes that handles repeated deep discharge; the acid level needs distilled water top-ups. Choose it for IPS units that carry load through daily cuts.

Flat plate flooded batteries

A lower-cost deep cycle design that usually suits lighter, less frequent duty, such as short, occasional cuts.

Sealed AGM and gel batteries

Valve-regulated, with no watering. AGM charges faster and costs less than gel; one reference places it at 30 to 100 Ah, less suited to large systems. Gel holds its performance longer, then drops quickly. Choose them for offices and small UPS units.

Lithium iron phosphate packs

Four 3.2 V cells make a nominal 12.8 V pack, usually good for more than 3,000 cycles, with a matched charger and a battery management system.

How to size and specify an IPS or UPS battery

Duty
A home IPS through long cuts, or a UPS holding load for minutes. Deep daily discharge and float need different designs.
System voltage
Small inverters usually run at 12 V, larger home systems at 24, 36 or 48 V. The inverter's battery voltage sets how many batteries go in series.
Sizing the bank
Ah = load in watts × hours ÷ battery voltage: 240 W for 3 hours at 24 V is 30 Ah. Cycle life falls as discharges deepen; around 50 percent average depth is a common balance, which doubles that figure before inverter losses.
Capacity rate
Ah falls at faster discharge and ratings usually assume 20 °C, so state the rate, such as C10, with every figure. IEEE 485 is the usual sizing practice.
Charger and float
Sealed batteries are more prone to thermal runaway when overcharged. Most flooded batteries float at 2.25 to 2.27 V per cell, 13.5 to 13.6 V on a 12 V block.
Heat and recharge time
Charge voltage should drop 3 mV per cell for each degree above 25 °C. In long cuts a battery may never fully recharge, and one kept short of charge sulfates.

Standards for IPS, UPS and battery rooms

IEC 60896-21 and IEC 60896-22
Test methods and requirements for sealed stationary batteries on float in UPS, telecom and emergency power. IEC 60896-11 covers flooded stationary types.
IEC 61056-1
Small general purpose sealed batteries for cyclic or float use, such as the blocks in desktop UPS units.
IEC 62040-3
Performance and test requirements for a UPS as a whole system. Ask for the UPS's rated figures to be stated under it.
EN IEC 62485-2
Safety of stationary battery installations up to 1,500 V DC, including battery room ventilation.

What moves the price of an IPS or UPS battery

  • Plate type: tubular positive plates cost more than flat plates of the same Ah.
  • Sealing: AGM costs more than flooded, and gel can cost as much as five times, by one estimate.
  • Lead: a heavier battery of the same rating usually holds more lead.
  • Bank size: more Ah or a higher system voltage means more or larger batteries.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on whether the maker has the model in stock, on the size of the bank, and on booking the seller's installation at your site. A lithium pack or a sealed model not built locally can take longer. Roptan confirms the delivery date and the minimum in your quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to homes, offices, shops and server rooms. For larger banks and UPS racks the seller installs, sets the charger to the battery type and runs a discharge test at your load. You receive the test sheet, a date-code list, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Roptan supplies new batteries only and does not take old ones in exchange.

Buying IPS and UPS batteries for export

Exports of these batteries from Bangladesh are small, but we can quote FOB Chattogram. Filled flooded batteries usually ship as Class 8 dangerous goods, so the seller provides the declaration and a safety data sheet to GHS, with the invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. We check labels, date codes and voltage before loading.

What we check for this order

  • Test report for the dutyIEC 60896 or IEC 61056-1 reports for the model quoted, matched to float or cyclic duty.
  • New, not reconditionedA date code key and factory test sheet, since reconditioned batteries are sold in Dhaka and dealer claims often do not match.
  • Voltage per batteryWe record every block's resting voltage against a reject level you set, such as 12.6 V, which some buyers use.
  • Bank and charger matchBattery type, bank voltage and the charger's float setting, matched before the seller connects anything.

Questions buyers ask

How many hours of backup will my IPS battery give?

That depends on your real load, so no honest seller can promise hours. Multiply the watts you run during a cut by the hours you need, divide by the battery voltage, then allow for depth of discharge and losses. Send us that load list.

Should I choose tubular flooded or sealed batteries for an IPS?

Tubular flooded, a deep cycle design, suits long daily cuts if someone can top up the water. Sealed batteries need no watering but suffer more in heat: one reference says every 8 °C above 25 °C halves their life.

Why do IPS batteries fail early?

Usually charging. In long cuts the battery may not refill before the next one, and a battery kept short of charge sulfates. Heat in a closed room and a charger without a proper float stage make it worse.

Is lithium worth it for home backup?

It can be where cuts are long and daily. Lithium iron phosphate usually lasts more than 3,000 cycles, but needs a matched charger and a battery management system, and an older IPS charger may not suit it. See our lithium battery pack page.

How soon will I hear back about batteries?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
