Buying automotive batteries in Bangladesh
A starter battery gives the short burst of heavy current that turns an engine over, so it has many thin plates and is not made for deep discharge. Cars and light trucks use one 12 V battery of six cells; heavy trucks usually run at 24 V on two in series. Dealers, workshops, fleets and importers abroad buy them for replacement.
Roptan finds the automotive battery manufacturer in Bangladesh whose model fits your vehicles, then holds the order to it: capacity and cranking figures under a named standard, a date code on every battery, and a resting voltage reading before dispatch. You deal with Roptan only.
How to specify an automotive battery
- Capacity
- The 20 hour capacity in Ah at 25 °C to 10.50 V, or reserve capacity: the minutes a battery holds a 25 A discharge to 10.50 V.
- Cranking current
- The figure at minus 18 °C with its standard and test option named. Options use different times and end voltages, so a bare number cannot be compared.
- Case size and terminals
- The case system, such as a BCI group size or the IEC 60095-2 dimensions, plus terminal type and which side is positive. Formats are not interchangeable.
- Flooded, EFB or AGM
- Which design, and whether the vehicles have start-stop, which needs a battery built for that duty.
- Heat
- Excess heat is a main cause of failure, and dry-season heatwaves bake engine bays. For sealed types, one reference says every 8 °C above 25 °C halves life.
- Vibration level
- IEC 60095-1 tests vibration at three levels, V1 to V3. For trucks, buses and rough roads, ask which level the model passed.
Starter battery standards and markings
- IEC 60095-1:2018
- The eighth edition, for 12 V starter batteries but not motorcycles. Ask for a type test report naming this edition and the exact model.
- EN 50342-1
- The European standard for 12 V starter batteries, consolidated with amendments from 2018 and 2021. Ask which standard a cranking figure was measured under.
- IEC 60095-6
- Covers 12 V EFB and AGM batteries for start-stop use. Ask for it if your market has many start-stop cars.
- Date and type marking
- IEC 60095-1 requires the production date on every battery and the word VRLA on sealed types. Ask for the key to the maker's date code.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on whether the maker holds the model in stock or builds a run, on private-label artwork and sample approval, on any new type test, and on the dangerous goods booking for export. A run built for you also arrives with recent date codes. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in your quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to dealers, workshops and fleet depots, packed upright with terminals capped. Each lot comes with the model's test report, a date code and voltage list, written warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Roptan supplies new batteries only and does not take old ones in exchange.
Buying automotive batteries for export
For importers we quote FOB Chattogram, usually by the full container. Filled batteries usually ship as Class 8 dangerous goods, UN 2794 when filled with acid or UN 2800 when non-spillable, so the seller provides the declaration and a safety data sheet to GHS, with the invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. We check labels, date codes and voltage before loading.
Questions buyers ask
How do I compare cranking amps between two quotes?
Only under the same standard and option. IEC 60095-1 tests at minus 18 °C, but one option needs 7.5 V after 10 seconds and 6.0 V after 90, while others need 7.2 V after 30 seconds, like the common US figure. Ask each seller to name both.
Is AGM or flooded better for Bangladesh?
It depends on the vehicle. Flooded costs less and suits ordinary vehicles. AGM takes deep discharge better and needs no water. Start-stop vehicles need EFB or AGM built for that duty. Heat shortens both, so fit the battery in a cool spot.
Can I use a car battery for an IPS or solar system?
No. Its thin plates are made for short bursts, and deep discharge wears them out: one, such as lights left on, can cut its life by a third or more. Starter and deep cycle batteries are not interchangeable.
How old can a new battery be when it arrives?
Agree a limit before ordering. Lead-acid batteries lose charge in store, 3 to 20 percent a month in one reference, and need a topping charge about every six months to stay above 2.05 V per cell, or they sulfate. We check every date code against your limit.
How soon will I hear back about batteries?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
