Buying LED components in Bangladesh

LED components run from the light-emitting diode itself, through the boards and modules that carry many of them, to the driver that feeds them and the finished lamp. Bangladeshi lighting makers assemble lamps locally, mostly from imported parts. Buyers are lamp and fitting makers, electrical contractors and lighting distributors across Bangladesh.

A sample rarely shows which LED component manufacturer in Bangladesh will hold its quality. Roptan sources from verified assemblers, asks for lab reports behind every life and flux claim, checks binning and the BSTI licence where it applies, and delivers. You deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of LED component

LED packages

Single surface-mount LEDs on reels, the light source itself, usually imported. Choose them if you build your own boards, and order by flux, colour temperature and forward voltage bin.

LED modules and boards

Boards carrying many LEDs, ready to fix to a heat sink or into a fitting. Choose them for fittings you assemble yourself.

LED drivers

The electronic supply that turns mains into the controlled direct current LEDs need, and may dim them. Choose one to match the module's current and the mains on site.

LED tube lamps

Made to fit fittings built for fluorescent tubes. Some work with the old ballast kept; others need the fitting rewired to remove it, so ask which before ordering.

Self-ballasted LED lamps

Bulbs with the driver built in, for ordinary mains lamp holders. Those for general lighting above 50 V need a BSTI licence for sale in Bangladesh.

How to brief an LED component manufacturer in Bangladesh

Level
Say whether you want packages, modules, drivers or finished lamps. Each falls under its own customs line and tests.
Flux and colour
State luminous flux, colour temperature and colour rendering index (CRI) together. CRI runs from 0 to 100, and below 75 is generally not recommended for indoor lighting.
Binning
Ask which flux, colour and forward voltage bins are used, and whether every lot uses the same one. Mixed forward voltages make parallel strings share current unevenly.
Driver
State output current, ripple, power factor, dimming type and surge rating, not only wattage. Driver losses make a lamp less efficient than the LEDs inside it.
Power factor
We found no Bangladeshi limit; state yours. As a guide, EU Regulation 2019/2020 asks mains LED lamps for a displacement factor of 0.5 above 5 W, 0.7 above 10 W, 0.9 above 25 W.
Heat
Summer highs in Bangladesh reach 38 to 41 °C, and heat cuts LED output and life. State the ambient rating for sealed fittings and the heat sink material.
Sealed fittings
Adhesives, gaskets and coatings can release vapours that harm LEDs in a closed fitting. Ask the seller to confirm they are compatible with the LED packages used.

Standards, tests and the BSTI licence

IES LM-80 and TM-21
LM-80 measures how the light output and colour of LED packages, arrays and modules hold up over a long test; TM-21 projects life beyond it. Current editions: LM-80-21 and TM-21-21.
IES LM-79
Photometric and electrical measurement of the finished lamp or fitting: flux, power and colour. Ask for the report on the exact model, from an accredited lab.
BDS IEC 62612:2015 and the BSTI licence
Performance requirements for self-ballasted LED lamps for general lighting above 50 V, on BSTI's mandatory certification list of 3 June 2025. The seller needs a BSTI licence for them.

What moves the price of an LED component

  • Binning: holding every lot to one tight flux, colour and voltage bin narrows which LEDs the seller can use.
  • Driver design: power factor correction, low ripple and surge protection add parts to every driver.
  • Heat sink: more metal for lamps and modules that must run in hot, sealed fittings.
  • Test reports: an LM-79 report per model and LM-80 data per package add lab cost, spread over the order.
  • Certification: self-ballasted lamps sold in Bangladesh carry the cost of the BSTI licence and its tests.

Lead times and delivery

We give no figure here, as time depends on the order. A lamp already in production is usually quicker than a module or driver built to your design, which needs samples and test reports first. A new LM-79 report or a BSTI licence for a new lamp model adds time. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver to your store or line anywhere in Bangladesh. LED packages and boards usually travel in ESD-safe packing, since blue LEDs are sensitive to static, and moisture-sensitive reels stay sealed until use. You receive bin labels per reel, test reports, a copy of the BSTI licence for listed lamps and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Lab data behind the life claimWe ask for LM-80 data on the LED package and an LM-79 report on the exact model, from an accredited lab.
  • Same bins in every lotWe compare reel labels with the agreed flux, colour and voltage bins, so colour does not drift between lots.
  • BSTI licence for lampsFor self-ballasted lamps sold in Bangladesh, we check that the seller's BSTI licence covers the lamp quoted.
  • Driver and heatWe check the driver's ambient rating and the heat sink against your fitting, since heat shortens LED life.

Questions buyers ask

Are LED chips made in Bangladesh?

Usually not. Bangladeshi lighting makers assemble lamps locally, mostly from imported parts; one maker put local value addition at 15 to 20 percent in 2022. We found no LED chip production. Expect the LEDs and most driver parts to be imported; we name their origin in the quote.

How long should an LED lamp last?

LEDs mainly fail by dimming, so life is stated as hours until output falls to 70 percent (L70), or 80 percent (L80). Stated lives vary widely: 15,000 hours for a typical domestic lamp, and estimates of 35,000 to 50,000 for white LEDs. Put the L level and the warranty in the order.

Can LED tubes go straight into fluorescent fittings?

Some can. LED tubes are made to fit fittings built for fluorescent tubes, but some work only with a suitable ballast left in place, while others need the fitting rewired to remove it. Tell us your fittings and we source the matching type.

Does an LED driver need a BSTI licence?

Not on its own, as the list stood on 3 June 2025. BSTI's mandatory list names self-ballasted LED lamps above 50 V, not separate drivers; the ballasts it lists are for fluorescent lamps. We recheck the list at quote time.

How soon will I hear back about electronic components?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
