Buying knit polo shirts in Bangladesh

A polo shirt is a knitted shirt with a fold-down collar and a buttoned placket, usually in cotton pique. Companies, schools and hotels in Bangladesh order polos as uniforms and branded wear; importers buy them in bulk. Knit garment exports, polos among them, reached 20.62 billion US dollars in FY2025-26, 53.3 percent of all garment exports (BGMEA).

Many polo faults show only after the first wash: a collar that curls, a body that twists, tipping that bleeds. A knit polo shirt supplier in Bangladesh should catch them early, so Roptan sources from verified factories, writes limits into the order, checks a washed sample and inspects the bulk.

Kinds of knit polo shirt

Pique polo shirts

The usual polo fabric: a knit with a honeycomb or waffle texture, sturdy enough for embroidery. Choose it for uniforms and for retail polos that carry a logo.

Single jersey polo shirts

The smooth knit of a T-shirt: lighter and stretchier than pique, and usually lower in cost at the same GSM. Choose it for events, promotions and casual wear.

Interlock polo shirts

A double knit with the same smooth face on both sides, softer and heavier than jersey. Choose it for fashion and office polos that need a fine surface.

Performance polo shirts

Usually knitted from polyester or a polyester blend that dries quickly and shows less sweat. Choose it for sport, golf and outdoor uniforms in Bangladesh's hot, humid summer.

Tipped polo shirts

Contrast stripes along the collar and cuff edges, usually knitted or bound on as a separate step. Choose it for school, club and brand colours; approve it after a wash.

How to brief a knit polo shirt supplier in Bangladesh

Fabric and yarn
Name the knit, fibre blend and GSM on a stated test method, plus the yarn count in Ne (higher is finer), the ply, and combed or carded cotton.
Collar and buttons
Rib-knit, flat-knit or woven: rib usually recovers after washing; woven sits flatter but needs a stay. Fix the button count before the first sample; a change later usually means another sample round.
Size chart
Give chest, length, sleeve, collar height and placket width per size with tolerances; state short or long sleeves and a men's, women's or unisex fit.
Logo
Left-chest embroidery is the usual polo decoration. Give width, position and stitch count, and ask for a stabiliser behind the knit so it does not pucker.
Labels
Care symbols to ISO 3758, plus market rules: the US Federal Trade Commission requires fibre content, country of origin and the maker's or marketer's identity on the label.

Tests and certificates for knit polo shirts

ISO 16322-2 and ISO 16322-3
Measure spirality, the twist of a knitted body, after laundering: Part 2 on fabric, Part 3 on garments. Circular knits can twist by nature, so set a limit.
ISO 105-C06 on collars
Test the collar and cuffs for wash fastness as well as the body, since dark tipping yarn can bleed; staining is graded on the ISO 105-A03 grey scale.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
Covers every thread, button and accessory, tested against more than 1,000 harmful substances. Adult polos usually fall in product class 2, direct skin contact; certificates last one year.

What moves the price of a knit polo shirt

  • Construction: the collar, placket, buttons and tipping usually make a polo dearer than a T-shirt of the same GSM.
  • Fabric: pique usually costs more than jersey at the same GSM, and heavier fabric uses more yarn.
  • Fibre: organic cotton under GOTS usually costs more than conventional cotton, and world cotton prices pass into yarn and fabric quotes.
  • Embroidery: usually priced by stitch count, so bigger logos and extra positions cost more.

Lead times and delivery

Sampling usually takes about one to six weeks, depending on how many proto, fit and pre-production rounds a style needs. Bulk usually follows 30 to 90 days after pre-production approval, and fabric booking often sets the date. Minimums usually start at a few hundred pieces per style at small units; large export factories want thousands per style or per colour. Roptan confirms the minimum and the dates in the quote.

Choose solid packs, one colour and size per carton, for a central store, or ratio packs, one colour in several sizes in your ratio, for branches; each polo usually has its own poly bag. Roptan delivers anywhere in Bangladesh with the carton list, lab and inspection reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying knit polo shirts for export

Men's and boys' knitted polos usually enter under HS heading 6105, knitted shirts, not 6109, T-shirts; your customs broker confirms the full line. Quotes are FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), and sea freight from there usually takes about three to six weeks to EU, UK and US ports.

What we check for this order

  • Washed sample firstWe have a proto washed once before you approve the pre-production sample: collar recovery and tipping bleed usually show only after laundry.
  • MeasurementsWe measure collar height, placket width, chest and length against your tolerances; a point outside usually counts as a major defect.
  • Needle controlWe check that every polo passes a needle detector before packing and that the factory logs broken needles.
  • Polo defect listAt the final ISO 2859-1 check, collar twist, placket bubbling, embroidery pucker, mixed shade lots and open seams usually count as major defects.

Questions buyers ask

What GSM should a polo shirt be?

For cotton pique, usually 180 to 240 GSM. Lighter pique can look thin and give the collar less support; heavier pique moves towards rugby-shirt weight. Jersey polos usually sit at the lighter end of that band and interlock towards the heavier end, since interlock is the heavier knit. Ask for a swatch at the quoted weight.

How many polos are checked at final inspection?

Usually 200 pieces for a lot of 3,201 to 10,000, under ISO 2859-1 at General Inspection Level II. At AQL 2.5 major and 4.0 minor, the lot passes with up to 10 major and 14 minor defects and no critical one, such as a broken needle.

Can you match our brand colours?

Yes. Send a physical colour standard, not a screen colour. Lab dips are dyed for the body and for the collar and cuffs, which are knitted separately, and approved side by side. On a cotton-polyester blend, ask which dye classes are used: usually reactive for cotton and disperse for polyester.

Do you supply women's polo shirts?

Yes. A women's polo is cut on its own grade, usually with darts and a shorter placket; say so on the brief, or the order may be cut to a unisex fit. Send a size chart and approve a fit sample for each fit before bulk.

How soon will I hear back about garments?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
