Buying kitchen gloves in Bangladesh

This page covers oven gloves and mitts: insulated gloves or mittens that protect the hand from hot ovens, stoves and cookware, and the potholders sold with them in sets. Most fabric mitts are a cotton outer around a layer of insulation. Homeware importers, retailers, hotels and restaurant kitchens buy them.

Heat claims are easy to print on a label and need a test to prove. Roptan matches your order to a verified kitchen glove manufacturer in Bangladesh, asks for the EN 407 report on the exact model, and checks seams, insulation and silicone print on the bulk before it ships.

Kinds of kitchen glove

Quilted cotton oven gloves and mitts

A cotton outer around insulation, as a five-finger glove, a single mitt that fits either hand, or two mitts joined by fabric. Some are treated to resist water and stains.

Silicone and silicone-backed gloves

Solid silicone, or cotton with a silicone print or back for grip on slippery pans. Treat any temperature figure in a listing title as marketing until an EN 407 report backs it.

Leather and aramid heat gloves

Cowhide with a cotton lining, or aramid-fibre gloves, sold for grills, barbecues and ovens. Ask which contact heat level each one reached in its test report.

Potholders and sets

Flat quilted or silicone squares, usually 13 to 25 cm a side, with a hanging loop and often a rubber grip side. Say whether the order is gloves, potholders or a set.

Rubber washing-up gloves

A separate household line, which the EU PPE Regulation excludes when used privately against damp and water in dishwashing. Ask if you need them; this page covers oven gloves.

How to brief a kitchen glove manufacturer in Bangladesh

Heat use and level
Name the use (home oven, grill, commercial kitchen) and the EN 407 contact heat level: 1 at 100 °C, 2 at 250 °C, 3 at 350 °C, 4 at 500 °C.
Steam, wet and grip
Say whether users meet steam, wet hands, frequent washing or slippery pans. These decide the outer fabric, the insulation and the silicone grip.
Form and size
Five-finger glove, single mitt, joined pair or set; for sized gloves, hand width and finger length, plus the cuff length.
Area to protect
Contact heat is usually rated on the palm, so the back, thumb or cuff may be unrated. Name any other area that must be protected.
Print and pack
Print design and colours; singles, pairs or sets per pack; carton size and pieces per carton, so freight can be checked.

Heat tests and EU rules for oven gloves

EN 407:2020
Protective gloves against thermal risks, for professional, consumer and domestic use, with contact heat among its tests. It applies only together with EN ISO 21420.
EN ISO 12127-1:2015
The contact heat test method: a heated metal cylinder is placed on the palm sample, and the time for the underside to rise by 10 °C is measured.
Regulation (EU) 2016/425
Category I covers hot surfaces only up to 50 °C, so an oven glove sold against hotter surfaces is usually PPE in Category II, with a notified body type-examination.
Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
Oven gloves and stuffed pan-holders are exempt from fibre composition labelling. The exemption does not remove PPE or product safety duties.

What moves the price of an oven glove

  • Insulation: how many layers sit inside the outer and how thick, stated so that quotes compare.
  • Outer material: plain cotton, cotton with a silicone print or back, full silicone, cowhide or aramid fibre.
  • Print: a printed or personalised design adds a step that plain fabric does not need; state colours and coverage.
  • Testing: an EN 407 report for the model and, where the glove is sold as heat protection in the EU, usually a type-examination.

Lead times and delivery

On trade listings, oven glove and mitt minimums usually run from a few hundred to a few thousand pieces per design. Time depends on the fabric, the print and whether a new model needs an EN 407 test before bulk. Roptan confirms the minimum and the dates in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers oven gloves and mitts to hotels, restaurants, caterers and shops in Dhaka, Chattogram or Sylhet, packed by design and size, with the EN 407 report where one applies, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Questions buyers ask

Are oven gloves protective equipment in the EU?

Usually yes, when sold to protect against heat. Category I of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 covers hot surfaces only up to 50 °C, and the private-use exclusions cover weather and dishwashing, not heat. So an oven glove for hotter surfaces is usually Category II; your EU adviser confirms.

What does an EN 407 contact heat level tell me?

How well the material slows heat. A heated cylinder sits on the palm sample; the level is the highest test temperature at which the underside takes at least 15 seconds to rise by 10 °C. It does not say how long a hand can hold a hot pan.

Do oven gloves need a fibre label for the EU?

No. Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 lists oven gloves and stuffed pan-holders among textile products that need no fibre composition label. The exemption covers only that label: if the glove is sold as heat protection, the PPE marking and information duties still apply.

Can you print our design on oven mitts?

Yes. Printed and personalised designs are common, and some mitts add a silicone print for grip. Send artwork and colours. On trade listings, minimums for printed designs usually run from a few hundred to a few thousand pieces; Roptan confirms the minimum in the quote.

How soon will I hear back about gloves?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
