Buying fashion gloves in Bangladesh
Fashion gloves are bought for look and feel: wrist, elbow and opera-length dress gloves, unlined driving gloves, and lined leather or knit gloves for winter. Kidskin, the soft, thin leather made from young goats, is the traditional glove skin; lambskin, sheepskin, suede and patent leather are common, and satin serves larger evening runs. Importers, brands and retailers abroad buy them.
Two risks need watching on leather gloves: a bulk skin that differs from the sample, and test papers from another batch. Roptan places your order with a verified fashion glove manufacturer in Bangladesh, ties the chromium VI and azo reports to the leather used, and checks pairs for size, shade and skin marks.
How to brief a fashion glove manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Skin and finish
- Kid, lamb, sheep or cow; smooth, nappa, suede or patent; and the colour standard. Confirm that the bulk uses the sample's skin.
- Length
- Wrist, elbow or opera, with the length in centimetres or inches. Past 14 inches, the US exemption for gloves from the clothing flammability rule ends.
- Lining and trim
- Unlined, or the lining fibre. Leather or fur trim on a textile glove needs the EU phrase 'Contains non-textile parts of animal origin'.
- Sizes
- HSE measures hand width just below the knuckles, thumb excluded, and finger length. Its table is for work gloves, so ask for the seller's dress-glove chart and give the split per size.
- EU pack details
- A type, batch or serial number, and the maker's name, postal and electronic address on the glove or pack, with an economic operator in the Union.
Leather tests and consumer rules
- REACH entry 47: chromium VI
- Leather parts touching the skin must contain less than 3 mg/kg chromium VI by dry weight; it can form from chromium III by oxidation. The test method is EN ISO 17075-1:2017.
- REACH entry 43: azo dyes
- Dyes releasing listed amines above 30 mg/kg are banned in gloves. Leather is tested to EN ISO 17234-1:2024; dyed linings and knits need a textile report.
- REACH entry 61: DMFu
- Dimethylfumarate, once used against mould in humid storage and transport, is limited to 0.1 mg/kg in articles, so monsoon packing must not rely on it.
- Regulation (EU) 2023/988
- The General Product Safety Regulation, applying since 13 December 2024, covers fashion gloves that are not PPE: only safe products, traceability details and an EU economic operator.
Lead times and delivery
On trade listings, minimums for fashion gloves usually run to hundreds of pairs, not thousands, and leather dress gloves usually need more than knit gloves because of pattern set-up and cutting. Bulk time depends on the skin, the colour and the pattern. Roptan confirms the minimum, the sample date and the ship date in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to shops, boutiques and corporate gift buyers in Dhaka or Chattogram, with the packing list, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). In the monsoon, leather is packed dry, without anti-mould sachets that contain dimethylfumarate.
Buying fashion gloves for export
Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong). Leather gloves enter under heading 4203 whatever their use, knitted gloves under 6116, and satin or other woven gloves under 6216. For the EU, the order carries chromium VI and azo reports for the leather batch, composition labels for textile parts and the product safety details on each pack.
Questions buyers ask
Which leather makes a soft dress glove?
Kidskin, the soft, thin leather traditionally used for gloves, made from goatskin; lambskin gives much the same effect. Patent leather and suede are often more affordable. Ask which skin the sample uses, and write that skin into the order so that the bulk matches.
Do opera gloves need a flammability test for the US?
For satin and other fabric opera gloves, usually yes. The US flammability rule for clothing textiles, 16 CFR Part 1610, exempts gloves only up to 14 inches long. Opera gloves reaching to the biceps are longer, so the fabric falls under the rule; wrist gloves stay exempt. Children's gloves also need a Children's Product Certificate.
Are fashion gloves CE marked?
Not usually. CE marking under the PPE Regulation is for equipment designed to protect against risks, and private-use gloves against ordinary weather are excluded. Fashion gloves fall under the General Product Safety Regulation instead, with traceability details and an EU economic operator.
Why does packing matter for leather gloves in the monsoon?
Because of mould and an old cure for it. The EU limits dimethylfumarate, a biocide once put in sachets to stop mould in humid storage and transport, to 0.1 mg/kg in articles. Bangladesh's monsoon is humid, so ask the packer to confirm dry packing with no such sachets.
How soon will I hear back about gloves?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
