Buying kitchen and household steelware in Bangladesh
Kitchen and household steelware covers pots, pans, plates, bowls, cutlery, utensils, sinks and storage ware in stainless steel. Stainless steel carries at least 10.5 percent chromium, which forms a thin, self-healing film against rust, and it cleans more easily than copper or aluminium. Hotels, restaurants, caterers, retailers and wholesalers in Bangladesh buy it, and a small share is exported.
The word stainless covers grades that differ in corrosion resistance and cost, and they look alike on a shelf. Roptan writes the grade, thickness and finish into one brief for a verified kitchen and household steelware manufacturer in Bangladesh, has the grade of each lot tested, and gathers the papers your market asks for.
How to brief a kitchen and household steelware manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Grade by number
- Write 304, 201 or 430, or the EN number such as 1.4301, never just stainless. Ask for the mill certificate of the sheet.
- Thickness and weight
- Sheet thickness in mm and the weight per piece, for body, base and lid, so quotes compare like with like.
- Finish
- Mirror, satin or brushed, inside and out, and whether marks, logos or etched sizes are wanted.
- Welds
- For welded handles or seams, name 304L, the low-carbon grade, and ask how welds are cleaned.
- Water and cleaners
- 304 resists pitting in water with up to about 400 mg/L chlorides at room temperature, about 150 mg/L at 60 C. Salty tap water and bleach usually call for care.
- Hob and dishwasher
- Say whether pans must work on induction, and whether items must pass dishwasher resistance tests.
Standards and food-contact papers
- EN 10088-1 and EN 10088-2
- The list of stainless steels, and delivery conditions for sheet, plate and strip, whose general purposes include contact with food.
- EN 12983-1
- Safety and performance requirements for domestic cookware used on a stove, cooker or hob; the 2023 edition covers gas, electric and induction hobs.
- EN ISO 8442-1 and EN 12875-1
- Material and performance tests for cutlery and food preparation tools, and the reference test for resistance to machine dishwashing.
- Regulation (EC) 1935/2004
- The EU rule for all food-contact materials, metal included: good manufacturing practice and traceability. EU buyers usually ask for a declaration of compliance and migration test report.
Lead times and delivery
Stock designs in a common grade and thickness move faster than new shapes, which need press tools, or special finishes, logos and gift packing. Food-contact tests for export add time before shipment. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.
Items are packed in sets or by piece, wrapped against scratches and boxed by size. Roptan delivers to stores, hotels and warehouses anywhere in Bangladesh with a packing list, the grade test results and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying kitchen and household steelware for export
Exports are small: the EPB recorded about 1.58 million US dollars of HS 732393 stainless table, kitchen and household articles and about 0.67 million US dollars of HS 8215 tableware in FY2025-26. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with grade test results, and for EU buyers a declaration of compliance and migration test report, plus traceability marking on the goods or packaging.
Questions buyers ask
Should I order 304 or 201 steelware?
Choose 304 for salty water or acidic food: it is the common grade for quality kitchenware. 201 saves nickel, so it costs less, but gives up some corrosion resistance. Whichever you choose, write the grade in the order so it can be tested.
Why do rust spots appear on stainless steel?
Usually from chlorides. Even 304 can pit in warm salty water or with bleach cleaners, and lower grades resist less. The chromium film heals itself in air once the surface is clean, so rinse and dry after salty food or bleach.
What papers do EU buyers ask for?
Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 applies to metal food-contact articles: they must be made under good manufacturing practice and be traceable. Buyers usually ask for a declaration of compliance and migration test report, and the goods may carry the glass and fork symbol.
Will the pans work on induction hobs?
Only if made for it. Say so in the order, and ask the maker for cookware made and tested for induction hobs, which EN 12983-1 covers alongside gas and electric hobs. Ask for a sample pan to try on your hob before bulk.
How soon will I hear back about steel and metal products?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
