Buying insoles in Bangladesh
The word insole covers two parts. The board insole is the inside bottom of the shoe, the layer the upper is lasted onto. The removable footbed, or sock liner, sits on top of it for comfort or fit and is often replaceable. Shoe factories buy both, cut to their lasts, and safety shoe makers add a perforation-resistant insert.
An insole manufacturer in Bangladesh has to cut every size to your last and choose a board that holds stitches and copes with damp. Roptan sources from verified makers, writes board, foam and tests into the order, approves a size set and inspects the bulk before it reaches your lasting line.
How to brief an insole manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Last bottom per size
- The upper joins the insole at the lasting margin, so send the last or its bottom drawing and the graded size range, not one sample.
- Board type and thickness
- Cellulose, non-woven or Strobel board, with thickness in millimetres and how the upper is attached: cemented, tacked or stitched.
- Stitch tear
- For stitched or tacked shoes, ask for stitch tear resistance to ISO 20876, now a general quality check for insole materials.
- Heel pin holding
- If the heel is fixed through the insole, the board must hold the heel pin: ask for ISO 20867 results.
- Footbed build
- Foam type, thickness, any top cover and whether it is glued or loose. Laminated footbeds need a delamination test.
- Humid storage
- Bangladesh's monsoon brings months of high humidity. Ask for water absorption and desorption results and dry cartons.
Tests for insoles and footbeds
- ISO 20866
- Delamination resistance: whether the layers of an insole stay together, for laminated boards and footbeds with a top cover.
- ISO 22649
- Water absorption and desorption of insoles and insocks, by a static method A or a dynamic method B. It shows how much sweat or damp the insole takes up and gives back.
- ISO 20869
- Water soluble content of insoles, linings and insocks, which shows what can wash out of the material in wear.
- ISO 16181-1
- Phthalates in plasticised or PVC footbeds and covers, a method written for footwear and footwear components.
Lead times and delivery
We give no typical lead time for insoles alone, because it depends on the board and the dies. Time is shorter when the maker holds the board or foam and cutting dies for your last. It grows with new dies for every size, imported board or foam, which is common, laminated covers, or a safety insert. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum per size in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your shoe factory or export processing zone, insoles bundled in pairs and counted by size, in dry cartons for the monsoon months. Each delivery carries the packing list, the lot's test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3), and can be split to follow your lasting plan.
Buying insoles for export
Insoles have no EPB line of their own. Removable insoles are reported under 640690, other parts of footwear, together with leather outer soles and uppers fixed to inner soles, so no export value can be given for insoles; most of that line is recorded under a local export code. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with a packing list by size, the certificate of origin, the seller's ERC and the test reports.
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between an insole board and a footbed?
The board is the inside bottom of the shoe that the upper is lasted onto, so it is part of the shoe's structure. The footbed, or sock liner, sits on top of it for comfort or fit and is often removable. Order them separately and specify each.
Which board should I use for Strobel stitched shoes?
A stitchable sock board made for Strobel lasting, often with a woven face that resists tearing and a non-woven face that takes glue. Ask for stitch tear results to ISO 20876 on the board you will receive, not a sample sheet.
Can you supply safety insoles?
We can source perforation-resistant inserts. The non-metallic type is specified in ISO 22568-4 and is made to work as a component of protective footwear under ISO 20345, so the finished shoe is still tested as a whole. Tell us the protection class your buyer needs.
Will a soft footbed keep its thickness?
Soft foams absorb shock but tend to flatten with wear, while firmer ones hold the foot in place. State a thickness and foam type, check it on bulk pairs, and ask for a delamination test if the footbed has a top cover.
How soon will I hear back about footwear components?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
