Buying heels and counters in Bangladesh
Two different parts share this page. The heel is the raised part at the back of the shoe, under the heel bone. The counter, or heel stiffener, is hidden inside the back of the upper and holds its shape; the toe puff does the same job at the front. Shoe factories buy all three made to their lasts.
A heel and counter manufacturer in Bangladesh has to match your drawing and your last in every size. Roptan sources from verified makers, writes heights, materials and tests into the order, has a trial pair lasted before bulk and checks the parts before they reach your line.
How to brief a heel and counter manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Heel drawing
- Height, pitch, seat shape and material, matched to your last. Heel geometry and material also affect slip resistance.
- Top piece
- The top piece material and how it is fixed. It is a separate part from the heel and can be replaced.
- Heel attachment
- If the heel is fixed with a pin, the pin and the insole that must hold it are chosen together.
- Counter material and grade
- Thermoplastic, leather or non-woven, with stiffness for the counter and a softer grade for the toe puff.
- Fitting method
- Whether the counter sits in a pocket between lining and upper or is stitched into the quarter with the lining.
- Activation
- Heat-activated or solvent-activated stiffeners, matched to your lasting line and adhesive.
Tests for heels, counters and toe puffs
- ISO 19953 and ISO 19956
- Lateral impact and fatigue resistance of heels, aimed at women's high heels, particularly moulded plastic heels with a steel dowel. Agree with your buyer whether they apply.
- ISO 19957 and ISO 19958
- Heel pin holding strength, for plastic and wooden heels of women's shoes, and the force needed to pull off the top piece.
- ISO 22650
- Heel attachment tested on the whole shoe, for women's medium and high heeled footwear.
- ISO 20863 and ISO 20864
- Bondability of stiffeners and toe puffs to upper and lining, and their shape retention and compression strength.
Lead times and delivery
We give no typical lead time for heels or counters alone; it depends on the moulds and the counter stock. Time is shorter from existing heel moulds and stock counter material. It grows with a new heel shape for every size, strength tests for fashion heels, a trial lasting round, or imported material, as most footwear inputs in Bangladesh are. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum per size in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your shoe factory or export processing zone, heels and counters in pairs counted by size, in dry, cool cartons for the monsoon months. Each delivery carries the packing list, the lot's test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying heels and counters for export
Heels and counters have no EPB line of their own. Rubber and plastic heels are reported with outer soles in 640620, and stiffeners are excluded from the uppers line, so no export value can be given for these parts. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with a packing list by size, the certificate of origin, the seller's ERC and the test reports.
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between a counter and a toe puff?
Both are stiffeners hidden between the upper and the lining. The counter sits at the back and helps hold the shoe on the foot, support the heel and shape the back. The toe puff does the shaping at the front and is usually a softer grade.
Must every heel pass ISO 19956?
No. The heel impact, fatigue and pin tests are aimed at women's fashion heels, particularly moulded plastic heels with a steel dowel. For flat or men's heels, agree the tests with your buyer, and ask for the ones that match the heel you order.
Can you supply top pieces on their own?
Yes. Heel and top piece are separate parts, and top pieces are ordered alone for repairs or spares. Say the material and the fixing, and ask for top piece retention strength to ISO 19958 if your buyer tests it.
Thermoplastic or leather counters?
Thermoplastic sheet with a hot-melt surface softens and conforms to the last, and suits heat activation on a lasting line. Leather and leather board counters are shaped to the heel during making and hardened with adhesive, and suit leather-lined shoes. Either way, the counter must match your last.
How soon will I hear back about footwear components?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
