Buying EVA midsoles in Bangladesh
The midsole sits between the outsole and the insole, mainly to absorb shock. EVA, a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate with rubber-like softness, is widely used because it is inexpensive and its properties can be tuned in processing. Trainer, casual and sandal makers buy EVA midsoles moulded to their sole design, size by size.
An EVA midsole manufacturer in Bangladesh has to hit hardness, density and shrinkage on bulk pairs, not only on a development sample. Roptan sources from verified makers, writes those targets into the order, checks a size set against your last and has bulk pairs tested before they ship.
How to brief an EVA midsole manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Vinyl acetate grade and blend
- VA content usually runs from 1 to 40 percent by weight, and many properties follow from it. Ask for the grade and any blend in writing.
- Density and weight
- A target density in g/cm3 with a tolerance, and a weight per pair, both measured on bulk pairs.
- Hardness
- A target on the Asker C foam scale with a tolerance, not Shore A, which is the scale for solid rubber.
- Compression set
- How much thickness the foam fails to recover after a load. It decides how long the midsole keeps its cushioning, so name a limit and the method.
- Shrinkage
- Very low density means high expansion, which raises shrinkage. Set a shrinkage limit so moulded midsoles still match the size set after cooling.
- Heat and storage
- EVA softens as it warms, and a closed container or hot store is a risk. Ask for stabilised parts and a shrinkage-after-heating check.
Tests for EVA midsoles
- ISO 20873
- Linear shrinkage after heating. It is written for outsoles, but it is the footwear heat shrinkage test a buyer can name for sole unit parts.
- ISO 17708
- Upper to sole adhesion on the whole shoe, which also tests the bond between adjacent sole layers, so it is usually the test named for a bonded midsole.
- ISO 16181-1
- Phthalates in footwear and footwear components, the usual restricted substance check for plasticised parts.
- ISO 17709
- Where test pieces are cut and how long they are conditioned, so results from two makers compare.
Lead times and delivery
We quote no typical lead time for midsoles alone; it turns on the moulds and the foam. Time is shorter from existing moulds and a foam the maker already runs. It grows with new moulds for every size, a new blend or colour, stabilising parts against shrinkage, or synthetic materials that must be imported, as many are. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum per size in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your shoe factory or export processing zone, midsoles in pairs counted by size, in cartons kept out of direct heat. Each delivery carries the packing list, density and hardness results for the lot and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3), and can follow your production plan.
Buying EVA midsoles for export
EPB has no line for midsoles or EVA parts. The nearest, 640620, covers outer soles and heels of rubber or plastics, so no export value can be given for EVA midsoles. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with a packing list by size, the certificate of origin, the seller's ERC and the lot test reports.
Questions buyers ask
Should I choose EVA or PU for a midsole?
EVA for light, soft and lower-cost shoes: it starts out softer and lighter, but usually compresses faster over time. PU usually holds up longer under sustained load, which is why it appears in work and hiking boots. Choose by how long and how hard the shoe will be worn.
Why do EVA midsoles shrink?
Low density needs high expansion, and both high expansion and heavy cross-linking raise shrinkage. If you set a very low density, also set a shrinkage limit, ask for stabilised parts and check a heat-soaked sample against the size set before bulk.
What hardness should an EVA midsole be?
It depends on the shoe. Softer foam cushions more but flattens sooner. State a target and a tolerance on the Asker C scale, approve a sample at that figure, and check it again on bulk pairs.
Does every shoe need a separate midsole?
No. Some shoes have none, and the outsole does the job. Say whether you want a separate EVA midsole or an outsole that also cushions, because the moulds, the bond and the test plan change.
How soon will I hear back about footwear components?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
