Buying house wiring cables in Bangladesh
House wiring cable is the single-core, PVC-insulated wire pulled through conduit to every light point, socket and distribution board in a building, rated up to 450/750 V. Contractors, developers and building owners buy it by the coil. More than 120 firms make cable and wire in Bangladesh, and trade members have named counterfeit goods and poor raw material as the sector's main problems.
Once wire is plastered into a wall, nobody looks at it again. So Roptan takes your order to a verified house wiring cable manufacturer in Bangladesh, confirms the BSTI licence covers the construction, has samples from your coils measured and delivers with the papers. You deal with one contact, or post the need on our requirement board.
How to brief a house wiring cable manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Standard and edition
- Name IEC 60227-1:2024 or BDS 900:2010. A quote citing the 2007 edition of IEC 60227-1 names a text withdrawn in February 2024.
- Size in mm²
- Give the nominal cross-section per circuit. IEC 60228 sets the resistance each size must meet, so size is something you can test.
- Conductor metal
- Ask for plain copper in writing. Aluminium wire on fittings made for copper was found to cause faulty joints and fire risks in North America in the 1960s and 1970s.
- Supply and rating
- Wire to IEC 60227 is specified for AC installations up to 450/750 V, enough for a 50 Hz building supply, single and three phase. DC solar strings sit outside that scope, so ask for solar cable there.
- How it is installed
- Say how many circuits share each conduit and whether runs cross roof spaces. Grouped and enclosed cables carry less current; IEC 60364-5-52 sizes cable by installation method.
- Heat and damp
- Bangladesh is hot and humid for much of the year, and wire in roof voids or damp walls sees both. State the insulation temperature rating you need.
Standards and papers for house wiring cable
- IEC 60227-1:2024
- General rules for PVC-insulated cables up to 450/750 V, edition 4.0, calling up test methods in IEC 63294, IEC 60332-1-2 and the IEC 60811 series.
- BDS 900:2010 and the BSTI mark
- BSTI lists non-armoured PVC insulated cables for power and lighting to BDS 900:2010 under mandatory certification marks. Ask for the licence and check that it covers the construction quoted.
- IEC 60228:2023
- Sets nominal sizes from 0.5 to 3,500 mm² and the resistance limit for each. Its European version, EN IEC 60228:2024, replaced EN 60228:2005.
- IEC 60332-1-2:2025
- The vertical flame test on one insulated wire with a 1 kW flame. It shows whether fire travels along the wire, not how much smoke it makes.
- IEC 60754-1 and IEC 61034-2
- Tests for halogen acid gas and smoke density. An LSZH wire should come with a report for each, or the label is only a claim.
Lead times and delivery
Common PVC sizes held in stock usually leave sooner than LSZH wire or unusual sizes run to order. A licence check, a resistance test on samples and a long mixed schedule each add time, and a sharp copper move can reopen the price. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum per size in the quote.
Roptan delivers coils to sites, stores and contractors' yards across Bangladesh, kept dry in transit, with a packing list by size and colour, the test records for the lot, a copy of the BSTI licence and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Wiring the building stays with your electrician or contractor.
Questions buyers ask
Does house wiring cable need a BSTI mark?
For the common PVC types, yes: BSTI lists non-armoured PVC insulated cables for power and lighting to BDS 900:2010 under mandatory certification marks. The list keeps growing, counting 328 products in July 2026, so we confirm with BSTI that the licence covers your construction.
Should I buy solid or stranded wire?
Solid is common in the small sizes; stranded from about 5 mm² up and for runs with many bends, because it pulls through conduit more easily. IEC 60227 covers both, and one order can mix them by size.
Which edition of IEC 60227 should the quote name?
IEC 60227-1:2024, edition 4.0, published on 22 February 2024. The 2007 edition was withdrawn that day, so a quote or test report citing it is out of date. A Bangladeshi maker may quote BDS 900:2010, the standard on BSTI's list.
How do I know the wire has the copper it claims?
Measure it. Conductor resistance must stay within the IEC 60228 limit for the size. Copper-clad aluminium, an aluminium core with a thin copper skin, fails, and so does an undersized conductor. We test samples from your coils before you pay.
How soon will I hear back about cables and wires?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
