Buying geotextile rolls in Bangladesh

A geotextile roll is permeable synthetic fabric, woven or non woven, usually polypropylene or polyester, laid against soil, stone or concrete. It separates layers, filters, reinforces, protects or drains. BWDB contractors lay it as the filter under concrete block revetments, and road and drainage works use it too, each to the values in its own contract.

Two things decide a roll order: the right fabric for the job, and enough square metres once laps are counted. As a geotextile roll supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan works from your use, area and contract values, finds a verified maker, checks test reports against roll labels and delivers wrapped rolls to your yard or site.

Kinds of geotextile roll

Needle-punched non woven rolls

Felt-like fabric of fibres laid at random and bonded by needles. Choose it for filters and drains; BWDB's filter under concrete blocks is one, at 400 g/m² or more.

Heat-bonded or resin-bonded non woven

Mats bonded by heat or resin instead of needles. A US federal specification allows them for one class only, so check your contract before accepting one.

Woven monofilament rolls

Monofilament yarn woven in a uniform pattern with distinct, measurable openings and a finished edge. Choose it where your contract asks for woven fabric.

Woven slit-film rolls

The same US specification allows slit-film woven fabric only for temporary silt fence. Do not accept it for a permanent filter or revetment.

What to tell a geotextile roll supplier in Bangladesh

Use and duty
Name the job and the setting. River values run higher: BWDB's filter asks 1,500 N grab strength where a Canadian highway table sets 900 N for heavy duty.
Minimum roll values
Ask whether each figure is a minimum average roll value in the weakest direction or a typical value. US tables state minimums.
Area, laps and roll size
There is no standard roll width or length. Give the covered area and the laps: BWDB allows 35 cm in the dry and at least 100 cm under water.
Joints and thread
BWDB's filter item wants machine-seamed joints with 100% polypropylene or nylon thread. A US specification wants high-strength thread in a contrasting colour, as UV resistant as the fabric.
Polymer and UV
Copy the polymer line from your item, with UV stabilisers in the fibre. US tables ask that at least 50% of strength remains after the ASTM D4355 exposure.
Opening size and flow
Set by the soil behind the fabric. Copy the figures and test method from your own tender: one current BWDB item prints two different opening sizes.

Standards for geotextile rolls

EN 13249, EN 13251, EN 13252 and EN 13253
European requirements by use: roads and trafficked areas, earthworks, drainage, and erosion control such as bank revetments. The same fabric is tested differently for each, so name the use.
ASTM D4595 or ISO 10319:2024; ASTM D4632; ASTM D4533
Wide-width tensile, grab and trapezoid tear. The numbers are not interchangeable, and the grab method does not suit knitted fabric, so state the method beside each value.
ASTM D6241-22a, ISO 12236:2026 and ISO 13433:2025
Static puncture by probe or CBR plunger, and dynamic perforation by cone drop. Ask which method produced a quoted puncture figure.
ASTM D4873 and EN ISO 10320
Identification, packaging, handling and storage of rolls, and checking on site that they are the goods ordered. Ask for the production run on each label.

What moves the price of a geotextile roll

  • Mass per square metre and thickness: more polymer in every square metre.
  • Construction: woven or non woven, and the yarn or bonding method.
  • Roll width: wider rolls mean fewer joints and less fabric lost in laps.
  • Laps: an underwater joint needs a far wider lap than a dry one, so wet work uses more fabric.
  • Testing: a report for each production run from the lab your contract names.

Lead times and delivery

A grade the maker already runs ships sooner than fabric made to a river table with durability reports. Imported rolls add sea freight to Chattogram and customs clearance, and lab tests have their own queue. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Rolls travel wrapped against moisture, dust and sunlight, with labels naming the grade and production run. We deliver to your yard or site by road; laying, lapping and seaming stay with the contractor, who must protect the fabric from UV and damage. Each delivery comes with test reports by production run, a packing list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Fabric fits the useWe check construction, yarn and bonding on the data sheet against your use, so slit film never arrives for a permanent filter.
  • Values are minimumsWe confirm each value is a minimum average roll value in the weakest direction, not a typical figure.
  • Labels match reportsWe match the production run on every roll label to a test report, and check the grade is printed along the fabric.
  • Quantity covers lapsWe check the roll count covers your area plus laps, at a roll width your crew can handle.

Questions buyers ask

Woven or non woven: which do I need?

Your contract or designer decides. A US federal specification allows needle-punched non woven for every class, and BWDB's revetment filter is one. Woven monofilament suits jobs that ask for a woven fabric, while slit-film woven is limited to temporary silt fence.

How many square metres should I order?

The covered area plus laps and cutting. BWDB's filter item allows a 35 cm lap in the dry and at least 100 cm under water. There is no standard roll size, so give us the area and the laps, and the quote states the number of rolls.

What does MARV mean on a data sheet?

Minimum average roll value: a minimum for roll averages, not a single sample result, quoted in the weakest principal direction. US tables give every value this way. A typical value is not a minimum, so ask which one a quote shows before you compare offers.

Can rolls wait on site uncovered?

No. BWDB's filter item makes the contractor protect the fabric from UV and other damage, and a US specification wants rolls shipped wrapped, with the wrap left undisturbed until placing. Store rolls off the ground, in shade, and open only what you lay that day.

How soon will I hear back about geo bags?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
