Buying geo bags 175 kg in Bangladesh

A 175 kg geo bag is a sewn geotextile bag that holds about 175 kg of sand when full. In BWDB's December 2025 tender it sits in the dyke and protective earthwork bill: the contractor supplies, fills and places the bags to the drawing on a levelled, dressed base. The 250 kg bag there is a separate item, dumped from a barge.

As a geo bag 175 kg supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan reads your bag item line by line, because its polymer, fill and test rules differ from the 250 kg item. We find a verified maker for the fabric, have samples tested at the lab your contract names and check each lot before it ships.

Kinds of 175 kg geo bag

Placed dyke bags

The current BWDB use: bags filled and placed to the drawing on the dyke. The item asks for polyester fabric of at least 400 g/m² and 3.0 mm. Choose it when your bill item says placing.

Non woven or woven fabric

One 2019 study found field bags from 36 to 250 kg made of non woven fabric at 400 g/m². Specifications allow both classes, so polyester alone does not define the fabric: state which you need.

Bags in another polymer

Other items name polypropylene, as the 250 kg items in the same tender do. Polyester and polypropylene bags of equal size and mass are not interchangeable on one contract: buy the polymer named.

How to brief a geo bag 175 kg supplier in Bangladesh

Size and fill volume
Copy them from your bill. The current BWDB item: 1,075 by 850 mm inside, 1,125 by 900 mm outside, 0.1164 m³, about 175 kg at 1,500 kg/m³ of sand.
Fill sand
The placing item asks for locally available sand free from silt and clay, unlike the 250 kg dumping item. Volume and weight are measured after filling with dry sand.
Polymer and fabric class
Polyester in the current item, plus woven or non woven. A US federal geotextile specification allows both classes and several polymers at 85% or more by weight.
Mass and thickness
At least 400 g/m² and 3.0 mm. The bag item states no pressure for the thickness test, though the tender's filter fabric states 2 kPa; agree one in the quote.
Strength, opening size and seams
The item gives no strength or opening-size figure. Take them from the contract or designer, fix a seam strength, and ask for thread as UV resistant as the fabric.

Tests and standards for 175 kg geo bags

EN 13253 and EN 13251
European requirements for geotextiles in erosion control works and in earthworks. For a placed dyke bag the contract may point to either; ask which before comparing offers.
ISO 9863-1 or ASTM D5199; ASTM D5261 or ISO 9864
Thickness at a stated pressure and mass per unit area: the two numbers the bag item does give. Ask for both on every lot report.
ASTM D4884 or ISO 10321
Seam strength, tested wet and dry under the ASTM method. The item only says to sew the open side after filling, so set a value for the factory seams.
ASTM D4632, ASTM D6241-22a or ISO 12236:2026, ASTM D4751 or ISO 12956:2019
Grab strength, puncture and opening size where your contract names them. ASTM and ISO results are not interchangeable, so test by the named method.

What moves the price of a 175 kg geo bag

  • Polymer: polyester at the stated mass, or polypropylene where an item names it, priced separately.
  • Fabric mass and thickness: 400 g/m² at 3.0 mm sets the polymer in every bag.
  • Seams and thread: an agreed seam strength and UV-resistant thread add to the making cost.
  • Testing and delivery: a lab report per lot, and transport to a dyke site off the main road.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on whether a maker already runs polyester fabric at the stated mass and thickness. A new fabric, a seam test, a long lab queue or a large first lot slow it; repeat lots of an approved fabric are faster. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

We deliver the bags empty to your site, in bundles labelled by lot to match the order. The contractor fills, closes and places them; in the current tender, filled bags are counted in stacks and marked with enamel paint. Each lot comes with its test report, a delivery challan and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Polyester, as the item saysWe check the fabric report names polyester at the item's mass and thickness, not polypropylene of the same weight.
  • Thickness test pressureWe have the test pressure agreed and printed on the report, since the bag item states none.
  • Maker's record and capacityWe hold the maker to BWDB's 2021 bar for bag bidders: five years making the goods, and capacity for your call-offs.
  • Lot sampling and labelsWe sample each lot by a stated procedure such as ASTM D4354 and check that labels let your site identify the goods ordered.

Questions buyers ask

When is a 175 kg bag used rather than a 250 kg bag?

In the current BWDB tender, the 175 kg bag is placed on the dyke and the 250 kg bag is dumped from a barge for bed protection. No source we found gives a general rule, so the design drawing decides which size goes where.

How many 175 kg bags cover a square metre?

Take the count from your drawing and bill. The published rule of thumb on bag coverage, from a 2016 paper by a BWDB engineer and a consultant, covers 125 kg and 250 kg bags only, so there is no tested figure for 175 kg.

Do 175 kg bags need durability reports?

The current tender's placing item for the polyester bag carries no durability test wording. Ask the engineer whether your contract wants any for this item, and agree the tests and the lab before production starts, not after the first lot arrives.

Why does my bill have a salvaging item for 175 kg bags?

The current BWDB tender has a separate item for salvaging 175 kg bags, carrying them within the site and stacking them, but does not say why. One reading is that placed bags may be recovered; ask the engineer what it covers before you fix the seams.

How soon will I hear back about geo bags?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
