Buying geo bags 250 kg in Bangladesh

A 250 kg geo bag is a sewn geotextile bag that holds about 250 kg of sand when full: the figure is the fill, not the bag. It leaves the maker empty and is filled and closed at the works. Contractors on BWDB river packages buy it to protect the riverbed at revetments and groynes, dumping it in layers from a barge.

Roptan works as the geo bag 250 kg supplier in Bangladesh for contractors who must pass each lot with the engineer. We read your bag item line by line, find a verified maker with capacity for your call-offs, have samples tested at your contract's lab and check each lot before dispatch.

Kinds of 250 kg geo bag

Bed-protection bags for dumping

Dumped from an anchored flat-top barge onto the riverbed in layers; one current BWDB package uses five at a groyne. The item asks for 100% polypropylene of at least 400 g/m². Choose it for dumping items.

Bags in a concrete block bill

A second 250 kg item in the same tender, in the bill headed Shank (CC block), asks for 97% polypropylene with 3% additives and reports on oxidation and weathering. Quote it separately.

Long design-life bags

Where a structure must last beyond 30 to 50 years, as on a large river bridge, designers have added fibre criteria from accelerated ageing tests. Expect extra tests before bulk.

What to send a geo bag 250 kg supplier in Bangladesh

Size and fill volume
Copy the sizes, fill volume and filled weight from your bill. One current BWDB item: 1,200 by 950 mm inside, 1,250 by 1,000 mm outside, 0.1664 m³.
Sand density and grading
The 250 kg assumes sand at about 1,500 kg/m³. The dumping item asks for dry sand with at least 80% retained on the No. 100 sieve.
Fabric mass and thickness
At least 400 g/m² and 3.0 mm; ask at what pressure thickness is measured. The bill's unit weight of 855 to 946 kg/m³ is a density, not the fabric mass.
Opening size
The bill caps the equivalent opening size. Copy the figure and its test method from your own tender: values from different methods are not interchangeable.
Strength and seams
The BWDB bag items set no grab, puncture or seam strength. If your designer wants them, write the values and seam type into the order.

Tests and reports for 250 kg geo bags

ISO 13438 and EN 12224
Named for the 250 kg bag in the Shank (CC block) bill: oxidation screening for service life and weathering under UV lamps. A plain 'UV stabilised' line does not answer them.
ASTM D5261 or ISO 9864; ISO 9863-1 or ASTM D5199
Mass per unit area and thickness, behind the bill's 400 g/m² and 3.0 mm. Mass is also a quick check on each delivery lot.
ASTM D4751 or ISO 12956:2019; ASTM D4491 or ISO 11058:2019
Opening size and water flow. ASTM and ISO results are not interchangeable, so the report must use the method your contract names.
ASTM D4632, ASTM D6241-22a, ISO 12236:2026, ISO 10319:2024 and ASTM D4884
Grab strength, puncture by probe or CBR plunger, wide-width tensile and seam strength. The bag items set no values; your contract or designer does.

What moves the price of a 250 kg geo bag

  • Fabric mass and thickness, which set how much polymer goes into each bag.
  • Polymer mix: 100% polypropylene or a blend with additives, each priced as its own bill item.
  • Durability reports: oxidation and weathering tests where named, and accelerated ageing for a long design life.
  • Lot testing: a report for every lot from the lab your contract names, plus any repeat tests.

Lead times and delivery

Timing follows the river. In one current BWDB package, underwater work is to be done between December and March, so the first lot must be made, tested and accepted before then. A new fabric, durability reports, a busy lab or a large first lot slow it; a maker already running the same fabric speeds it. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.

Bags leave the maker empty, sewn on three sides, in counted bundles marked by lot. We deliver to your store yard or riverside loading point. Filling, closing and dumping stay with the contractor, who must protect the bags from UV and damage, so cover bundles waiting on the bank. Each lot comes with its test report, a delivery challan and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Bill item, line by lineWe match polymer, mass, thickness, size and fill volume to the exact 250 kg item, since one tender can hold two.
  • Durability reports where namedWhere the bill names ISO 13438 and EN 12224, we ask the maker for both reports before bulk production.
  • Maker's record and capacityWe ask how long the maker has run the fabric and its daily output, the two tests BWDB set bag bidders in 2021.
  • Fabric mass on every lotWe check mass per square metre from each lot against the approved sample and match bundle marks to the lot report.

Questions buyers ask

Is 250 kg the weight of the empty bag?

No. It is the sand the bag holds when full. The current BWDB item gives a fill volume of 0.1664 m³; at about 1,500 kg of sand per m³ that is 250 kg. Specify fabric mass, size and fill volume, not the name alone.

How many 250 kg bags cover a square metre of riverbed?

About one per layer, a rule of thumb from a 2016 paper by a BWDB engineer and a consultant. Multiply by your drawing's layers: one current package uses five, while the paper found three enough where dry-season currents are low.

Can I use a polyester bag where the bill says polypropylene?

Only if the engineer approves it. The current BWDB tender names polypropylene for its 250 kg items and polyester for its placed 175 kg bag. Polymer is set item by item, so a swap is a different product on that contract.

Do all 250 kg bags need oxidation and weathering reports?

Only where your bill names them. In the current BWDB tender, ISO 13438 and EN 12224 appear with the Shank (CC block) bag item and the filter fabric, not the bed-protection bag. If your item names them, a stabiliser statement will not do.

How soon will I hear back about geo bags?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
