Buying geo tubes in Bangladesh

A geo tube is a large tube-shaped bag of porous, high-strength geotextile, filled in place with pumped sand slurry. Water drains out through the fabric and the sand stays, forming a breakwater, dune, levee or a container for dredged sludge. Buyers are designers and contractors on coastal, flood control, land reclamation and dewatering jobs, each working to a drawing.

Tubes are cut and sewn to a designer's drawing, not picked from a catalogue, so the choice of maker matters. As a geo tube supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan confirms the maker's capacity for your size, fabric and seams before we quote, has the fabric and seams tested and delivers the tube with its reports.

Kinds of geo tube

Coastal protection tubes

Laid along a shore as a breakwater or dune core and left in place for years. Choose high-strength woven fabric with UV protection, and plan a cover against damage.

Levee and flood control tubes

Filled in place to form a levee or dyke for flood control. Choose fabric and seams for a permanent structure, and check the ground beneath with the designer.

Dewatering tubes

Pumped full of sludge or dredged material so water drains out and solids stay, often only for the dewatering phase of a dredging job. Fabric and seams differ from a permanent shore tube.

Two-layer tubes

One coastal tube in a 2014 review had an inner woven polypropylene layer and an outer non woven layer stitched on against abrasion and UV. Choose it where waves, sand and sun wear the surface.

What to send a geo tube supplier in Bangladesh

Use and design life
Say whether the tube is permanent shore protection, a levee or a temporary dewatering unit. They differ in fabric, seams and protection, so the use comes first.
Size from the drawing
Diameter, length and filled height are design outputs. Case studies in one 2014 review run from tubes 0.9 m high to 3.5 m in diameter and 100 m long.
Fabric strength in kN/m
State wide-width tensile strength in kN/m in both directions, not just 'high strength'. One coastal tube in the review used woven polypropylene of 150 kN/m.
Seams and filling ports
Ask for seam strength in kN/m for the stitching on the panels and the filling-port joints. The review names seam wear from waves and drifting sand as a concern.
UV protection and cover
Ask for UV stabiliser in the fibre, such as carbon black, and retained strength after ASTM D4355 exposure. Exposed tubes can be cut or burst.
Filling plan
Pump, slurry concentration, fill ratio and port spacing belong with the order. The contractor runs the pump; overpressure can overstress the fabric.

Tests and standards for geo tubes

ASTM D4595 or ISO 10319:2024
Wide-width tensile, the method behind a kN/m strength. Grab results compare only similar fabrics, so do not accept grab figures alone.
ASTM D4884 or ISO 10321
Seam strength on a wide strip, wet and dry under the ASTM method. Test the stitching actually used on the tube, not a sister product's.
ASTM D4355
Strength retained after xenon-arc light, moisture and heat. Ask for the exposure hours and the retained percentage on the fabric offered.
EN 13253
European requirements for geotextiles in erosion control works, coastal protection among them. It covers the filter role; the designer still sets tube strength, seams and fill containment.

What moves the price of a geo tube

  • Fabric strength and layers: a higher kN/m rating or a second outer layer means more and stronger fabric.
  • Size and making: circumference, length, panel seams and the number of filling ports.
  • Testing: wide-width, seam and UV reports on the fabric and seam actually supplied.
  • Freight and access: sea freight to Chattogram for an imported tube, then road or boat to site.

Lead times and delivery

A tube made to a drawing takes longer than stock fabric: the fabric must be woven or sourced, panels and ports cut and sewn, and fabric and seams tested. An imported tube adds sea freight to Chattogram and customs clearance. Roptan confirms the maker's capacity before quoting, then the dates and the minimum in the quote.

We deliver the empty tube to your site or yard with its test reports, a packing list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Keep it covered and clear of sharp objects until filling. Filling stays with the contractor, who runs the pump to the designer's plan; where the seller offers guidance at the first fill, we arrange it through the seller.

What we check for this order

  • Maker's capacity firstBefore we quote, we confirm the maker can supply the fabric and sew a tube of your size, seams and ports.
  • Wide-width strengthWe check the fabric report gives kN/m by ASTM D4595 or ISO 10319:2024, in both directions, for the fabric offered.
  • Seam and port reportWe ask for seam strength on the stitching used on the panels and filling ports, not on a sister product.
  • Size against the drawingWe have the maker confirm circumference, length and port positions against your drawing before cutting starts.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between a geo tube and a geo bag?

The filling. A tube is pumped full of sand slurry on site and drains through its fabric; a geo bag is filled with dry sand and sewn shut. Fabric, seams and filling method differ, so keep the two names apart in an enquiry.

How full should a tube be filled?

As the designer's filling plan says. In one Mexican project in a 2014 review, slurry of 10 to 30% sediment was pumped in until the tube reached 70% of capacity, and the review warns that pump overpressure can overstress the fabric. Agree fill ratio and pressure first.

How long does a geo tube last?

It depends on exposure and protection. A 2014 review names long UV exposure and abrasion by waves and drifting sand as concerns, and reports tubes on one muddy coast settling after five years. It suggests a cover of geotextile or small rock, and a scour apron below.

Do you supply tubes for dewatering sludge?

Yes, where a maker can make the tube to your drawing. Dewatering tubes differ from shore tubes in fabric and seams. Ask your lab which method it uses for flow and solids retention from a closed bag, and name that method in the order.

How soon will I hear back about geo bags?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
