Buying frames and forks in Bangladesh
Frames and forks are the structural core of a bicycle, bought by assemblers who fit their own wheels, drivetrains and brakes. Bangladeshi plants make them for their own bikes, some inside export processing zones. EPB records exports under HS 871491, frames and front forks and their parts, a small line beside complete bicycles.
A frame that is right on paper can still reject your headset or cranks if one standard is wrong. Roptan turns your drawing into one brief for a verified frame and fork manufacturer in Bangladesh, checks the paired test report and the first samples on a real build, and inspects the lot before it ships.
How to brief a frame and fork manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Geometry and form
- Send a dimensioned drawing: diamond, step-through or another form, with angles, tube lengths and every mount and cable stop.
- Sizes
- State how frame size is measured, the sizes in the run and the split per colour.
- Head tube and steerer
- Usually 28.6 mm (1 1/8 inch) or tapered to a 38.1 mm lower bearing. State threaded or threadless and the steerer length.
- Bottom bracket shell
- Threaded 68 or 73 mm with the ISO/English thread, or a press-fit type named exactly, since cranks for one pressed standard may not fit another.
- Coating and drain holes
- Ask for phosphate pretreatment and powder coat, adhesion by ISO 2409 cross-cut and thickness by ISO 2808. Show drain and vent holes on the drawing.
Tests and reports for frames and forks
- ISO 4210-6:2023
- The frame and fork test methods within ISO 4210, replacing the 2015 edition. Ask for the lab report on the exact frame and fork pair, size and material.
- US 16 CFR 1512
- The front fork must take at least 39.5 J without visible fracture; the fork and frame assembly 890 N or 39.5 J, whichever gives the greater force.
- ISO 9227:2022
- Neutral salt spray testing. It sets no exposure period or pass criterion for a product, so write both into the order.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on whether the plant has tooling and jigs for your geometry, on tube stock, which may be imported, on the paint system and custom colours, and on samples passing the frame and fork test first time. Roptan confirms the sample and bulk dates, and any minimum order, in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver frames and forks to assembly plants and workshops, packed so tubes and paint are protected, counted by size and colour with frame numbers listed. Each delivery comes with the test report, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying frames and forks for export
Frames and forks are exported under HS 871491 and Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram. The EU keeps its duty on Chinese bicycles extended to certain Chinese-origin parts, so ask where frames and forks, and their tubes, are made and confirm duty with a customs adviser. Origin rules for any duty preference are confirmed for your destination before you order.
Questions buyers ask
Why are frame and fork tested together?
ISO 4210-6 includes tests on the frame and front fork assembly as well as on the fork alone, so a report may not cover a different fork. If you change fork supplier, material or length, ask the lab whether the pair needs a new test before bulk.
Steel or aluminium?
Steel is usually the lower-cost frame and comes as mild high tensile steel or 4130 chromoly. Aluminium, usually 6061 or 7005, has lower density and lower strength than steel. Pick by weight target and price, and ask for a frame and fork test report for each material and size.
Which head tube should I order?
Match it to the fork and headset you stock: 28.6 mm (1 1/8 inch) is common, and tapered forks use a 38.1 mm (1 1/2 inch) lower bearing. Threaded and threadless headsets need matching steerers, and stack height must fit frame and fork.
How do I stop frames rusting on the way?
Bare weld areas, tube insides and cable-stop holes usually rust first in humid air. Ask for pretreatment before powder coating, drain and vent holes, and a salt spray test to ISO 9227 with hours and a pass criterion you set. Keep cartons dry when loading.
How soon will I hear back about bicycles?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
