Buying fleece fabric in Bangladesh
In the Bangladesh knit trade, fleece usually means a cotton or cotton-polyester circular knit whose back loops are brushed into a soft surface, made as two-thread or three-thread fleece for sweatshirts and hoodies. This page also covers polar fleece, a polyester pile, and sherpa, a high pile that imitates shearling.
BTMA said in 2021 that local mills meet most demand for export-oriented knit fabric. A fleece fabric supplier in Bangladesh still needs yarns and finish in writing, since finishing changes the weight. Roptan sources from verified mills and importers, approves the lab dip on brushed fabric and checks rolls.
How to brief a fleece fabric supplier in Bangladesh
- The three yarns
- For three-thread fleece, name each yarn with its count, fibre and share by weight. A lab finds the shares by unravelling a sample and weighing each yarn.
- Finished weight
- Finished GSM with a tolerance and the method, ASTM D3776, since ISO 3801 is for woven fabric. Stentering and compacting change the weight, so approve the finished figure.
- Brushing
- One side or both, the pile length after shearing, and whether the nap direction must match across a garment's panels, since steaming sets the nap one way.
- Shade on brushed fabric
- CVC is dyed in two steps: polyester with disperse dyes at about 130 to 135 °C, then cotton with reactive or direct dyes. Approve the lab dip on brushed fabric.
- US-bound clothing
- Say so. Brushed cotton or CVC fleece is a raised-surface fabric under 16 CFR 1610 and is not exempt from guaranty testing; all-polyester fleece is.
Tests and certificates for fleece fabric
- EN ISO 12945-2 and ASTM D4970
- Pilling by the Martindale method; ASTM D3512 uses a random tumble tester and D3511 a brush tester. Name one method, the rubs and the minimum grade.
- 16 CFR Part 1610
- The US flammability rule for clothing textiles. Raised-surface fabric is exempt from guaranty testing only if made entirely of listed fibres such as polyester, acrylic or wool; class 3 cloth must not be used for clothing.
- ISO 16322-2 and EN ISO 5077
- Spirality and dimensional change after a named EN ISO 6330 wash, on fabric that has been brushed and compacted. Yarn twist is the main source of spirality in knits.
Lead times and delivery
Fleece adds steps to a plain knit: three yarns to book, brushing and, for CVC, two-stage dyeing, so Roptan quotes dates per order. A new shade, double-sided brushing, recycled yarn with GRS papers and extra lab dips add time. Ask whether the minimum is per colour, construction or brushed lot. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.
We deliver fleece rolls anywhere in Bangladesh wrapped in film, since fleece builds static that collects lint and dust. Cotton and CVC fleece also need covered transport in the monsoon: mould can grow at about 62 to 93% relative humidity and 25 to 31 °C. You receive a roll list, the test report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying fleece fabric for export
For garment makers abroad, Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), rolls film-wrapped and packed by shade lot. Whether a fleece is a knitted pile fabric (heading 6001) or a general knit (6006) depends on its construction; your broker confirms the line. For US clothing, cotton and CVC fleece need a 16 CFR 1610 result.
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between fleece and French terry?
Both are loop-back knits. French terry keeps its loops inside, unbrushed, behind a smooth flat face; fleece has the loops brushed into a soft nap. Say brushed or unbrushed, which side is the face, and the finished GSM, or a quote may miss the weight and hand.
What GSM should hoodie fleece be?
There is no fixed figure. One weight guide lists sweatshirts and sweatpants among bottom-weight fabrics of about 10 to 12 oz per square yard, 339 to 407 GSM, and heavier. State the finished weight after brushing, with a tolerance, and approve a swatch at that weight.
Why does polar fleece pill?
Lower-quality polyester fleece is prone to pilling, and fleece builds static that attracts lint. Set a minimum grade by one named method, such as EN ISO 12945-2, with the rub count, and test washed fabric. High-temperature washing, tumble drying or ironing can also damage polar fleece.
Do you supply recycled polyester fleece?
Yes. Polar fleece can be made from recycled PET bottles or recycled fleece. For a recycled claim, ask for the mill's GRS certificate, which covers goods with at least 20% recycled content (50% for a consumer label), and check its version, since the Materials Matter Standard takes effect on 31 December 2026.
How soon will I hear back about fabric?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
