Buying festive decorations in Bangladesh
Festive decorations are the ornaments, garlands, wreaths, stockings, trees and lights bought for celebrations. Importers order seasonal ranges under their own label, and event decorators, hotels and shops in Dhaka buy them for weddings, festivals and company events. Bangladesh grows jute in large volumes and already uses it for decorative textiles, so jute pieces are a natural line to ask a festive decoration manufacturer in Bangladesh for.
Roptan reads your design first: a plain ornament is decor, but one made for children to play with is a toy. We place the order with a verified maker, check the marks and papers your market expects, approve a sample with you and inspect the packed lot. You deal with Roptan only.
How to brief a festive decoration manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Pieces and sizes
- Each design with its size in cm, the hanging method and the count per pack.
- Materials
- Glass, paper, card, wood, jute, textile or PVC, named for each part, including glue, glitter and paint.
- Intended use
- Decor only, or made for children to handle. The answer decides whether toy rules apply, so write it on the brief.
- Lighting
- Mains or battery, rated voltage, plug type and number of lamps for any lit piece.
- Marks and instructions
- A type or batch number, the maker's name with postal and electronic address, and safety instructions in the buyer's language.
- Ship date
- The latest date the goods can leave Chattogram and still reach your selling season.
Safety rules for festive decorations
- Outside EU toy law
- Directive 2009/48/EC lists decorative objects for festivities and celebrations as not toys; from 1 August 2030 Regulation (EU) 2025/2509 limits that to decorations without play value.
- Regulation (EU) 2023/988
- General product safety covers plain decorations: the maker does a risk analysis and keeps technical documentation for 10 years, and the importer makes sure the product meets the safety requirement.
- Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU
- Covers electrical equipment rated 50 to 1,000 V AC, which takes in mains light strings: technical file, EU declaration of conformity and CE marking.
- EN IEC 60598-2-20
- The lighting-chain part of the luminaire standards. Ask for a report on the exact string, plug and transformer you are buying.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on the range and the season. A few designs in jute or paper move faster than a large mixed range, and glass or lit pieces add finishing and test time. Seasonal goods must leave port in time for the selling window, so fix the latest ship date before sampling. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to event decorators, hotels, shops and offices in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet or elsewhere, counted by carton and design, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Glass and lit pieces travel in inner boxes inside the carton.
Buying festive decorations for export
For importers we quote FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), with invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and a REX statement for EU GSP. Christmas articles usually enter under HS 9505 10 and other festive articles under 9505 90; your broker confirms the line. Mains-lit pieces need the CE file under the Low Voltage Directive, and plain decorations need the batch and address marks of general safety law.
Questions buyers ask
Do festive decorations need EN 71 testing?
Not a plain ornament: EU toy law lists decorative objects for festivities and celebrations as not toys. They still fall under general product safety rules, and a decoration with play value, such as a plush figure made for a toddler, can be a toy and need EN 71 tests.
What does the EU need for light strings?
Mains-powered strings fall under the Low Voltage Directive, which covers equipment rated 50 to 1,000 V AC. The maker keeps technical documentation and an EU declaration of conformity for 10 years and fixes the CE marking. Ask for a test report to the lighting-chain standard EN IEC 60598-2-20.
Can you supply jute festive decorations?
Yes. Bangladesh grows jute in large volumes and already uses it for decorative textiles, so jute garlands, stars and ornaments are a natural line. Tell us the size, colour and any dye or glitter, and we place the order with a verified maker and approve a sample with you.
Are artificial trees fire-resistant?
Not usually. Most artificial trees are PVC, which is fire-retardant but not fire-resistant, and some are polyethylene. A pre-lit tree adds lights and a transformer, which need their own electrical papers. Ask for the material and the reports on the lit parts.
How soon will I hear back about toys and games?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
