Buying board games in Bangladesh

A board game is a set of pieces placed and moved on a patterned board, often with cards, dice and tokens, packed in a set box. Schools, bookshops, gift shops and companies in Bangladesh buy them as learning sets, shop stock and branded gifts. A board game manufacturer in Bangladesh prints, cuts and packs many small parts, so the component list matters as much as the artwork.

Roptan turns your rules sheet into a component list with stock, finish and quantity per part, places the order with a verified maker and approves a full sample box with you. We check the target age and the tests it brings, count sample boxes before packing, and deliver. You deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of board game

Family and educational games

Boards, dice and pawns for mixed ages or classroom use, including cooperative games where players work towards a common goal. If children under 14 are meant to play, EU law treats the game as a toy.

Strategy games

Boards and playing pieces for older players and adults. A game made for adults is judged on its intended age, so it may fall outside toy law.

Card and deck games

Decks of printed cards, sometimes with a small board. Cards are made from card stock, heavy paper, thin board or plastic-coated paper, with a smooth or textured coating.

Dice and party games

Quick games built around dice, tokens or cards. Dice, tokens and pawns are small parts; in the US a game for children aged 3 to under 6 must then carry the CHOKING HAZARD warning.

Scented and food games

Olfactory board games, and gustative games where children make sweets or dishes with food ingredients. They are tested to EN 71-13 for the EU.

How to brief a board game manufacturer in Bangladesh

Component list
Every part with a count: board, cards, tiles, dice, pawns, tokens and rules sheet, with the open and folded board size in cm and the card size in mm. It becomes the packing checklist.
Stock per part
Weight in gsm or thickness for box, board, cards and tiles separately; one figure for the whole game hides the cost.
Print and finish
Number of colours, a smooth or textured coating on cards, and any varnish on the board.
Pieces
Material, size and colour of dice, pawns and tokens: wood, plastic or card.
Target age
Under 14 brings EU toy law, and under 3 the US small parts rule for games. In the US, games for ages 3 to under 6 with small pieces carry the CHOKING HAZARD warning.
Box and insert
Box board and lid style, a tray or insert that holds the parts, and shrink wrap.

Rules and tests for board games

EU toy law or general safety
Games meant for children under 14 are toys; others fall under Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety. Directive 2009/48/EC applies until Regulation (EU) 2025/2509 from 1 August 2030.
16 CFR 1500.19 (US)
Toys and games for children at least 3 but under 6 that include a small part must carry the small-parts warning, led by a signal word and CHOKING HAZARD. Confirm the exact text with the lab.
ASTM F963 and US lead rules
A game for children 12 and under is a children's toy in the US: ASTM F963 applies and a CPSC-accepted lab tests it. Lead-paint rules cover painted pieces, not printing inks on paper.
EN 71-13
Olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games. It applies only to games with scent, make-up or food elements.
Paper chemistry and Bangladesh
EU toy law caps formaldehyde in paper toy material at 30 mg/kg, for under-3 toys now and for all toys from 1 August 2030. For sale in Bangladesh, June 2026 notices, as reported, list BDS ISO 8124 parts including migration of certain elements.

What moves the price of a board game

  • Component count: every extra card, tile and piece adds printing, cutting and packing.
  • Stock: the board and card weights chosen for each part.
  • Print and coating: colours, card finish and board varnish.
  • Pieces: custom-shaped or printed pawns and dice against stock ones.
  • Box: a rigid set box with a tray against a folding carton.
  • Lab tests, when the game is meant for children.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on the number of parts and how new they are. A game with custom pieces, a new insert or several rounds of print proofs takes longer than one with stock dice and pawns. If children are meant to play, lab tests on printed parts and pieces add time before bulk. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to schools, bookshops, gift shops and offices in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi or elsewhere, counted by carton and box, with the component list, any test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Gift games for a company can be packed by recipient list.

What we check for this order

  • Component countWe count sample boxes against the component list and the rules sheet, part by part.
  • Print registration and card cutColours line up, card edges are clean and every card is cut to the same size.
  • Box strengthThe box and insert hold the parts without crushing once packed in the carton.
  • Age and warningThe target age on the box matches the tests, and a US game for ages 3 to under 6 with small parts carries the CHOKING HAZARD warning.

Questions buyers ask

Is a board game a toy?

It depends on who it is for. EU toy law covers products designed or intended for play by children under 14, judged on the use the maker intends. A strategy game made for adults falls under general product safety rules instead. Put the target age on the brief, since it decides the tests.

Do dice and tokens need a warning on the box?

In the US, yes, when the game is for children at least 3 but under 6 and contains a small part: 16 CFR 1500.19 sets a warning that starts with a signal word and the words CHOKING HAZARD. A game for under-3s may have no small parts at all. Ask the lab for the exact wording for your game before the box is printed, and we check it on the sample box.

What HS code does a board game use?

Usually a line under HS 9504, not 9503 like most toys. The EU toy Regulation's customs list shows playing cards under ex 9504 40 00 and other table or parlour games under ex 9504 90 80. Your customs broker confirms the full line for your market.

Can you supply games with scent or food elements?

Yes, with extra tests. Olfactory board games and gustative games, where children make sweets or dishes from food ingredients, fall under EN 71-13 for the EU. Tell us at the start so the maker and the lab plan the tests before sampling.

How soon will I hear back about toys and games?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
