Buying blouses and tops in Bangladesh

In customs terms a blouse is a loose top that may be sleeveless and may have no neck opening; a shirt-blouse has sleeves and opens from the neckline. Brands abroad and at home order both, with jersey tops. Tell any blouse and top manufacturer in Bangladesh which you mean: the words are often confused.

Roptan runs the order: we match each style to a verified seller used to your fabric, have the fabric tested, approve fit on every size, check seams and hems early in sewing and inspect the finished bulk before it leaves.

Kinds of blouse and top

Shirt-blouses

Long or short sleeves and an opening from the neckline, often with a collar and a button front. Choose it for office and day wear, and sketch the collar and cuff.

Loose blouses

Loose-fitting, possibly sleeveless, with or without a neck opening, usually in light silk, thin cotton or georgette. Sheer fabric shows the seams through it, so name the seam and hem.

Wrap tops

Cut and built like a wrap dress without the skirt, secured with a tie or a zip. Mark which on the sketch, with the tie length and the fastening point.

Tunic and kaftan tops

Loose, longer styles; a kaftan top is usually long-sleeved and often printed. Choose them where drape and print matter more than fit, and approve a strike-off for the print.

Jersey tops

Cut and sewn from knitted fabric. Knitted blouses and shirt-blouses share a customs heading; T-shirt-style tops and tops with a ribbed or elasticated hem are classified elsewhere.

How to brief a blouse and top manufacturer in Bangladesh

Fabric and weight
Fibre, weave or knit, and g/m2 with a tolerance: sheer blouse fabric usually weighs about 34 to 102 g/m2, light top-weights about 136 to 203.
Points of measure
Bust first, then length, shoulder, sleeve, cuff, waist and hem, each with a tolerance; shirt-blouses add collar, band and placket.
Seams and hems on sheer fabric
Name a French seam, sewn in two stages, and a rolled hem, the narrow, light edge for full styles in sheer fabric.
Collars and cuffs
Most interfacing is fused with heat-activated adhesive. Ask for a fused collar or cuff washed and dry-cleaned before bulk: it should look unchanged.
Hem shape
Straight, curved, banded or elasticated. A ribbed or elasticated hem can change the customs heading, so send the sketch to your broker early.

Tests for blouse and top fabrics

ISO 13936-1 and ISO 13936-2
Seam slippage on woven fabric, by fixed seam opening or fixed load. Slippery yarns and open weaves fail first; state the opening, usually 6 mm.
16 CFR 1610 for US orders
Plain cotton or viscose fabric under about 88 g/m2 is not exempt from testing, so sheer blouses in those fibres need a burn test; Class 1 needs 3.5 seconds or more.
ISO 105-C06, E04 and B02
Colour fastness to washing, perspiration and xenon-arc light, graded on grey scales. Set your own pass grades before bulk dyeing.
ISO 12945-2 and ISO 12947-2
Pilling, fuzzing and matting by the modified Martindale method, and abrasion by Martindale. Set limits for jersey and brushed tops.

What moves the price of a blouse or top

  • Fabric route: woven blouse fabric is mostly imported, so currency, freight and import time enter the quote.
  • Print: digital printing needs no screens and suits short runs; screen printing is usual for longer ones.
  • Collar, cuffs and placket: fused parts and buttonholes add steps that a pull-on top does not need.
  • Seam finish: a French seam is sewn in two stages, so sheer blouses take longer to sew.
  • Lining or camisole: a second layer adds fabric, cutting and sewing.

Lead times and delivery

Fabric sets most of the calendar. Jersey tops cut from knitted fabric in stock usually go first, while woven blouses wait for fabric that is more often imported, and a custom print adds a strike-off round. Fit, size set and pre-production approval come before bulk either way. Ask whether a minimum counts per style, colour or size. Roptan confirms dates and minimums in the quote.

Blouses go folded flat in cartons, or full length on hangers in poly bags inside the carton, which changes the carton count. Within Bangladesh we deliver to your warehouse or shops with the packing list, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying blouses and tops for export

Women's blouses, shirts and shirt-blouses usually fall under HS heading 6206 when woven and 6106 when knitted. Tops with a ribbed waistband or other tightening at the hem, or pockets below the waist, fall outside them, so your customs broker confirms each style. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, or by air from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

What we check for this order

  • Fabric weight and weaveWe check g/m2 and weave on the bulk fabric against the approved swatch, since light, open weaves slip at seams.
  • Fused parts after washingWe have a fused collar or cuff washed before bulk and check that it looks unchanged.
  • First pieces in sewingWe check the first sewn blouses for seam type and hem finish, before a fault runs through the order.
  • Final AQL inspectionWe inspect a random sample to ISO 2859-1, usually at AQL 2.5 major and 4.0 minor; an off-shade panel is major.

Questions buyers ask

Is a top with an elasticated hem still a blouse for customs?

Usually not. The headings for women's blouses and shirt-blouses exclude garments with a ribbed waistband or other tightening at the bottom, or with pockets below the waist. Such tops are classified elsewhere, so send the sketch to your customs broker first.

What is the difference between a blouse and a shirt-blouse?

A shirt-blouse has long or short sleeves and an opening from the neckline; a blouse is loose and may be sleeveless, with or without an opening. Both may have a collar and share one customs heading, so attach a sketch, not a name.

What labels does a blouse need for the EU and the US?

For the EU, fibre names and percentages by weight in descending order, under Regulation (EU) 1007/2011. For the US, a country-of-origin label at the inside neck under 16 CFR 303, and care instructions under 16 CFR 423. Send label artwork with the order.

Why do woven blouses take longer than jersey tops?

Usually the fabric. Local mills make only about 40 percent of the fabric used in woven garments, against about 85 percent of the yarn knitwear needs (USDA, April 2026), so blouse fabric is more often imported and cleared before cutting. Book it early.

How soon will I hear back about women's wear?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
