Buying aluminium scrap in Bangladesh
Aluminium scrap is extrusion offcuts, castings, sheet, cans and machining waste, sorted by alloy family and cleanliness for remelting. Remelting scrap typically needs about 5 percent of the energy of making new aluminium from ore, so refiners and remelters abroad pay for lots that are clean and sorted. Bangladesh exports aluminium scrap regularly, by grade and container.
Mixed alloys, paint and hidden iron are what cut an aluminium lot's value. An aluminium scrap exporter in Bangladesh has to prove the sort, so Roptan sources from verified yards, has each alloy family bagged or baled apart, checks for attachments and oil, surveys every container for radiation and confirms export status before quoting.
What to send an aluminium scrap exporter in Bangladesh
- Alloy family
- Name the grade and alloy, for example one-alloy 6063 extrusion. A lot with mixed alloys usually falls to a lower grade and price.
- Coatings and attachments
- State whether paint, plastic, rubber, iron, zinc or stainless parts are allowed, and how they are deducted. Coated scrap usually needs decoating before melting.
- Oil and moisture
- Give limits for oil and water; new can stock is typically held to 1 percent oil. Fines and turnings should be kept dry and covered before loading.
- Form
- Say loose, baled, shredded or briquetted. Cans are typically magnetically separated before baling, and pre-treated scrap usually melts with less dross.
- No dross or skimmings
- Keep them out of a scrap order. Aluminium smelting by-products are class 4.3 dangerous goods, UN 3170, which give off flammable gas when wet.
Grade codes, export rules and safety papers
- ISRI (ReMA) scrap specifications
- The grade reference for can and extrusion scrap, with code words such as TAKE, TALC and TALCRED. Quote the code with your own limits.
- Export Policy 2024-27
- The Ministry of Commerce policy, in force to 30 June 2027, does not list aluminium scrap as prohibited or conditional. Gazette notices under the Customs Act 2023 can still add a restriction.
- Basel Convention entry B1010
- Aluminium scrap in metallic, non-dispersible form is on the non-hazardous list. A lot contaminated with hazardous material can lose that status.
- Radiation survey
- Bangladesh prohibits the export of radioactive material, so each container is surveyed before loading, and the report goes with the papers.
Lead times and delivery
No reliable typical lead time exists for aluminium scrap. Dates depend on whether a yard holds the alloy sorted, how much baling or cleaning is needed, how soon the radiation survey and any inspection can be booked, and container space at Chattogram. Roptan confirms the loading date and any minimum tonnage in the quote.
Buyers inside Bangladesh can order through Roptan too. We deliver by truck to your plant, with each alloy family weighed apart at loading and on arrival, photos of the sort, the radiation reading, weighbridge slips and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying aluminium scrap for export
For export we quote FOB Chattogram, or CFR on request. Each alloy family is bagged or baled apart, and every container is photographed and weighed before sealing. Papers usually include the commercial invoice, a weight list by grade and bale, the bill of lading, a certificate of origin and the radiation report. If your country now inspects scrap containers, tell us its rule.
Questions buyers ask
Can aluminium scrap be exported from Bangladesh?
Yes. Aluminium scrap is on neither the prohibited nor the conditional list of the Export Policy 2024-27, and solid aluminium scrap is on the Basel non-hazardous list. Rules can change by gazette notice, so Roptan checks for any later restriction each time we quote.
Why does one-alloy extrusion scrap cost more?
Because it can go back into the same alloy with little correction. Typically a 6063 extrusion grade allows one specified alloy only, free of sawings, iron and other metals. Once alloys are mixed, the remelter has to dilute or refine, so the lot is usually priced lower.
Do you supply used beverage cans?
Yes, on request. Typically TAKE is new can stock and clippings and TALC is old cans free of other metals, foil, plastic, paper and glass. Say whether you want them loose or baled, and we have a sample bale checked for iron and dirt.
Can dross be shipped with aluminium scrap?
No. Dross and skimmings are a separate stream with their own rules and are class 4.3 dangerous goods when shipped. We keep them out of scrap orders; if you buy aluminium dross, see our metal-bearing ash page for how classification is checked.
How soon will I hear back about metal scrap?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
