Buying tights in Bangladesh
Tights are footed hosiery from waist to toes, usually knitted on small-diameter circular machines with tubular legs and feet. In British English the word covers sheer and opaque styles; in the US, sheer styles are usually called pantyhose and tights are the thicker kind. Importers, retailers and shops in Bangladesh buy them by denier, colour and size.
Tights are judged on the leg, not on the card: a waistband that rolls, a gusset off centre, a leg sheerer than the sample. Roptan briefs a verified tights manufacturer in Bangladesh on yarn, panty, gusset and toe, approves the sample on a leg form, and checks the bulk against it.
How to brief a tights manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Market terms
- Say whose terms you use: British tights include sheer styles, while US buyers usually call those pantyhose. Put the denier on the order so no one misreads it.
- Denier of each yarn
- Denier is grams per 9,000 metres of yarn, decitex grams per 10,000 metres. Give the leg yarn apart from panty and waist yarns, per filament or whole yarn.
- Opacity
- No fixed denier marks where sheer ends and opaque begins, and sources disagree. Approve opacity on a sample stretched on a leg form, in the colour ordered.
- Waist, panty, gusset and toe
- State each: a strong elastic waist, a panty thicker than the leg, a single or double gusset panel, sometimes porous cotton, and a sandal, reinforced or open toe.
- Fibre and runs
- Most tights are mainly nylon or cotton, and pantyhose usually nylon with elastane. Very sheer nylon can run after a snag, so ask for the seller's run method.
Tests and labels for tights
- EN ISO 20932-1 and -2 (elasticity)
- Strip and multiaxial tests for the elasticity of fabric. Both are general fabric methods, so agree the load points for the leg and the waistband with the lab.
- EN ISO 13938-2 (bursting)
- Pneumatic bursting strength and distension of the knitted fabric. It is not a run test, so treat run resistance as a separate, agreed method.
- ISO 105-X12, C06 and E04
- Colour fastness to rubbing, washing and perspiration. Dark opaque tights rub against shoes and clothing, so ask for rubbing results dry and wet.
- 16 CFR 303, 423 and 1610 (US)
- A package may carry the fibre label for the tights inside, and care instructions are required. The flammability rule covers hosiery, and sheer nylon-elastane tights are not plainly within its testing exemptions.
Lead times and delivery
Lead times and minimums for tights vary with the seller, the yarn and the range, so Roptan quotes both per order. Repeat styles in stock yarn colours are quicker to plan; a new denier, a colour dyed to order, a new gusset or waistband, and extra opacity approvals add time. Roptan confirms dates and minimums in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers tights boarded, folded and packed by size and colour as ordered, to your warehouse or shops, with the packing list, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Packs show the size and denier you specify.
Buying tights for export
Tights enter heading 6115: synthetic tights split at a single-yarn linear density of 67 decitex, with a separate line for tights of other textile materials, where cotton tights fall. Footless styles may be read as trousers, so your customs broker settles them. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong) with the test and inspection reports.
Questions buyers ask
What denier should our tights be?
It depends on the look, and sources disagree on where sheer ends and opaque begins. A higher denier gives a thicker pair. State the leg yarn denier, then approve opacity on a sample stretched on a leg form in the colour ordered, rather than relying on the number alone.
Can tights be made run-resistant?
No standard run test is in general use, and very sheer nylon tends to run after a snag. A reinforced toe or panty adds strength where tights wear, but do not print run-resistance claims. Ask for the seller's own method and a worn, washed sample.
Are footless tights hosiery?
Not always. Footless and trouser-style tights may be classed as trousers in customs rather than hosiery, so your broker settles the heading before the quote. Athletic and cycling tights are usually footless and a heavier elastane blend, so brief them as a separate product.
How are tights knitted?
Usually on small-diameter circular machines, with legs and feet knitted as tubes: the welt and top first, then the foot and toe, which is closed. Boarding on forms can then heat-set nylon and elastane blends, giving a memory of the boarded shape and less shrinkage.
How soon will I hear back about socks and hosiery?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
