Buying televisions in Bangladesh
A television combines a tuner, a display and loudspeakers; without the tuner it is a monitor. The usual set today is an LED-backlit LCD, in Full HD or 4K, smart or basic. Television assembly in Bangladesh dates from 1967, and dealers, hotels, hospitals, offices and housing projects buy sets in volume, often under the maker's warranty and service network.
A set that works on the showroom floor can fail after months of voltage swings, or reach you with a weak backlight. Roptan finds the television manufacturer in Bangladesh that fits your order, checks the safety, EMC and surge reports against the exact model, powers on sampled sets at inspection and delivers or ships them.
How to brief a television manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Screen size and mounting
- Diagonal in inches, and wall bracket, table stand or both.
- Panel and backlight
- Edge-lit or direct-lit, with or without local dimming, and the resolution. Ask for the panel warranty in writing, separate from the set's.
- Tuner and inputs
- Name the broadcast standard your market uses for the tuner, and the number of HDMI and USB ports. If the set needs no tuner, you may be buying a monitor.
- Smart platform and wireless
- Platform, app store access, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Confirm with the seller whether a radio approval applies to the wireless module in your market.
- Input voltage and surge
- The rated input voltage range on the spec sheet, and a surge immunity report to the IEC 61000-4-5 method where the supply is unstable.
- Power use
- On-mode watts measured to IEC 62087-3, so two quotes are compared on the same signal and method.
Safety, EMC and power tests for televisions
- IEC 62368-1
- The safety standard for audio, video and communication equipment, and the one that applies to a television set. The report should name the model and its power board.
- EN 55032 and EN 55035
- Electromagnetic emission and immunity for multimedia equipment. Ask for both reports on the exact model, with the IEC 61000-4-5 surge test.
- IEC 62087-3
- The method for measuring a television's power consumption. Use its watts figure to compare sets, since we found no Bangladesh energy label for televisions.
- BSTI
- We found no television on BSTI's mandatory certification list. Imported goods follow a separate BSTI list, so for an imported set Roptan checks the current position before shipment.
Lead times and delivery
No figure is given here, because time and minimums depend on the assembler and the order. A model from the current range moves fastest. Your own brand and boot screen, a new chassis or smart platform, remote control artwork and test reports for a new market add time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per model in the quote.
Roptan delivers to dealers, hotels, hospitals and offices across Bangladesh, with serial numbers listed against the order. Wall mounting is done by the seller or your installer, as agreed in the quote. You receive warranty cards stating the panel warranty, service contacts and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying televisions for export
Colour television sets sit under HS 8528.72, apart from monitors and projectors, and Bangladesh's recorded television exports are on the line for completely knocked-down (CKD) colour sets. Ask whether the seller ships built sets, CKD kits or both. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, with IEC 62368-1 and EMC reports on the exact model.
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between a television and a monitor?
The tuner. A television combines a tuner, a display and loudspeakers; a monitor shows only what is plugged into it. Customs treats them as different lines of the same heading, so if you need to receive broadcasts directly, say so in the order.
Edge-lit or direct-lit: which should I order?
Edge-lit where a slim set matters most. Direct-lit, ideally with local dimming, where contrast matters: films, darker rooms, larger screens. Local dimming can leave a faint halo around bright objects, so view a sample in a dim room first.
Does a television need BSTI certification in Bangladesh?
We found no television on BSTI's mandatory certification list, and no Bangladesh energy label for sets. Imported goods follow a separate BSTI list we could not confirm for televisions, so for an imported set Roptan checks the current rule before you commit.
How do I compare power use between two sets?
Ask for on-mode watts measured to IEC 62087-3 on both, at the same screen size and picture setting. Brochure figures or a different method do not compare.
How soon will I hear back about home appliances?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
