Buying rice cookers and blenders in Bangladesh

A rice cooker boils rice in an inner pot and switches off or to keep-warm once the water is absorbed. Blenders and mixer grinders liquidise and grind food, spices and chutneys. Both sell in volume to Bangladeshi homes, and local makers of small kitchen appliances produce them; one Saidpur maker sells to India, Bhutan and Nepal.

The papers differ: blenders sit on BSTI's mandatory list, rice cookers do not, and food-contact rules depend on your market. Roptan sources each rice cooker and blender manufacturer in Bangladesh from verified makers, checks the licence, reports and food-contact declarations, tests samples and delivers.

Kinds of rice cooker and blender

Basic rice cookers

A heating element and a thermostat that trips when the water is gone. Many then drop to keep-warm at about 65 °C; simpler ones switch off.

Advanced rice cookers

Fuzzy-logic temperature control, induction heating instead of a plain element, or a steaming tray. Choose them for buyers who want finer control.

Double-pot rice cookers

Sold with one non-stick pot and one stainless steel pot, for buyers who want both surfaces in one box.

Countertop blenders

A motor base with a jar of 1 to 2 litres in glass, plastic or stainless steel. Choose them for juices, shakes and soups.

Immersion blenders

A hand-held stick that goes into the pot, rated from about 120 W to over 600 W. Choose them for soups and small batches.

Mixer grinders

The South Asian kind: one motor with three or four jars for liquidising, wet and dry grinding and chutney, listed locally at about 800 to 1000 W.

How to specify a rice cooker or blender

Cooker capacity
Local cookers are typically 1.8 litres at about 700 W. State pot volume in litres and the cups of raw rice; the supplied cup is typically 180 ml.
Inner pot
Name the metal and coating: non-stick aluminium, stainless steel, or both. The coating and electric parts are usually imported, so ask their origin.
Cook and keep-warm
Say whether the cooker should switch to keep-warm or off after cooking, and list the steamer plate, cup and scoop to be packed.
Motor watts
Listings mix rated, motor and locked-rotor watts. Ask for rated input power at 220 V and say which figure the quote uses.
Jars and seals
Glass is heavier and steadier, plastic scratches and keeps smells, steel hides the contents. Removable blades need a gasket so the jar does not leak.
Supply and kitchen conditions
Mains is 220 V at 50 Hz, and kitchens are hot and humid. Ask for the rated ambient temperature and insulation and leakage results on the model.

Standards, the BSTI licence and food contact

IEC 60335-2-15
Safety of appliances for heating liquids; the 2024 edition names rice cookers. BSTI's mandatory list has no rice cooker item, so this report is a buyer or market requirement.
IEC 60335-2-14 and BDS IEC 60335-2-14:2022
Safety of kitchen machines, blenders among them; the IEC edition in force is 2025. BSTI lists the 2022 Bangladesh standard, so a blender sold here needs the licence.
EU Regulation 1935/2004, as amended
For EU-bound goods: pots, jars, lids and trays must not pass their constituents into food in amounts that endanger health.
EU Regulation 10/2011, as amended
For plastic jars, lids and trays sold in the EU: an overall migration limit of 10 mg per dm² of food-contact surface and a written declaration of compliance.

What moves the price of a rice cooker or blender

  • Motor: higher rated watts, copper winding and ball bearings raise a blender's cost.
  • Jars: the number of jars and glass or steel in place of plastic add cost.
  • Inner pot: a second pot, or stainless steel beside non-stick, adds to a cooker's price.
  • Imported parts: the origin of pot coatings and cooker parts moves the quote.
  • Safety features: overload protection on a mixer grinder adds parts and testing.

Lead times and delivery

A rice cooker or blender from a maker's current range usually ships sooner than a private label version, which starts only after the sample is approved; a new jar, pot or licence adds time again. No reliable figure in weeks and no reliable minimum was found for these products, so this page gives none. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per model in the quote.

Roptan delivers rice cookers, blenders and mixer grinders across Bangladesh, counted by model and accessory set. You receive a copy of the seller's BSTI licence for blenders, the agreed reports and food-contact declarations, warranty cards and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying rice cookers and blenders for export

Blenders, food grinders and mixers enter under HS heading 8509.40, and Bangladesh exports of them are small. The export data names no line for rice cookers, so your customs broker confirms it. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, built for your market's voltage and plug.

What we check for this order

  • BSTI licence for blendersWe check that the seller's BSTI licence covers kitchen machines and the blender or mixer grinder quoted.
  • Food-contact papersWe collect a declaration for the coated pot from its coating supplier, and for plastic jars and lids where your market asks.
  • Cook and keep-warm on a sampleWe run a sample cooker to check it switches from cook to keep-warm or off as specified.
  • Jar seal and overloadWe check jars do not leak at the seal and that a mixer grinder's overload protector trips and resets.

Questions buyers ask

Do rice cookers need BSTI certification?

Not on BSTI's mandatory list as we read it: it has no rice cooker item, though blenders and other kitchen machines are listed. For a rice cooker, ask for a safety report to IEC 60335-2-15:2024 on the exact model instead.

What does a 1.8 litre rice cooker hold?

Listings quote capacity in litres, while the cup supplied is typically 180 ml, so litre and cup figures are not the same thing. State the pot volume and the cups of raw rice in your order, and say which one the quote uses.

How many watts should a mixer grinder have?

As a guide, about 500 W suits regular home use and 750 W or more suits tough spices. Local mixer grinders are listed at about 800 to 1000 W. Compare rated input power at 220 V, and ask for overload protection.

Which food-contact papers do EU buyers need?

A declaration of compliance under Regulation 1935/2004, as amended, and for plastic jars, lids and trays under Regulation 10/2011, as amended. For a non-stick pot, ask for the coating supplier's food-contact declaration.

How soon will I hear back about home appliances?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
