Buying electric fans in Bangladesh

Electric fans in Bangladesh are sold as ceiling fans, pedestal or stand fans, table and wall fans, rechargeable fans for power cuts, and exhaust fans. Ceiling fans run on AC induction or brushless DC (BLDC) motors. Dealers, offices, schools, hotels and housing projects buy them in volume, and importers abroad buy household fans too.

Two fans with the same sweep can move very different amounts of air for the power they draw. Roptan finds the electric fan manufacturer in Bangladesh that fits your order, checks the BSTI certification for fans and regulators, compares measured air delivery and watts, runs sampled fans at inspection and delivers or ships them.

Kinds of electric fan

Induction ceiling fans

The familiar AC ceiling fan with a step or electronic regulator. Choose it where the buying price matters most and the fan runs on mains power.

BLDC ceiling fans

A brushless DC motor with electronic control, much more efficient than an AC induction motor, usually with a remote. Choose it where fans run long hours or share an IPS or solar supply.

Pedestal, table and wall fans

Oscillating fans for spots a ceiling fan does not reach. Choose a stand fan to move between rooms, a wall fan where floor space is tight.

Rechargeable fans

Sold in Bangladesh as charger fans, with a built-in battery for load-shedding. Choose them for homes and shops that lose power often; ask for battery type and run time on test.

Exhaust fans

Ventilating fans for kitchens, bathrooms and workspaces, tested to their own method. Large exhaust fans of 24 inches or more sit on a separate customs line.

How to brief an electric fan manufacturer in Bangladesh

Sweep
Blade span in mm: usually 900, 1200 or 1400 mm for ceiling fans. The trade rounds 48 inches (1219 mm) to 1200 mm and 56 inches (1422 mm) to 1400 mm.
Motor and watts
Induction or BLDC, and input watts at full speed. Household fans on the main customs line have a motor output of not more than 125 W.
Air delivery
Air delivery in m³/min and watts from the same IEC 60879 test; dividing the first by the second gives service value, the figure to compare.
Input voltage range
The voltage range the fan is rated to run across, from the spec sheet, since supply voltage often swings.
Regulator and control
Step regulator, electronic regulator or remote, and the number of speeds.
Noise
Sound level at full speed measured to IEC 60704-2-7, for bedrooms and classrooms.

Certification and tests for electric fans

BSTI Certification Mark, BDS 818 and BDS 1323
Fans are on BSTI's mandatory certification list: BDS 818 for circulating fans and regulators, BDS IEC 60665 for ventilating fans, BDS 1323 for electronic regulators.
IEC 60879 and IEC 60665
International methods for measuring the performance of comfort fans and ventilating fans. BDS 818 dates from 1998, so for export also ask for a report to the current IEC 60879.
IEC 60335-2-80 with IEC 60335-1
Electrical safety for fans. It is not on BSTI's mandatory list, so it is a buyer or market requirement; ask for the report on the exact model.
IEC 60704-2-7
The test code for airborne noise from fans, for comparing models measured the same way.

What moves the price of an electric fan

  • Motor type: a BLDC fan usually costs more to buy than a comparable induction fan and less to run.
  • Efficiency: a BLDC fan with a higher service value usually costs more, for its more refined motor design.
  • Sweep: a larger sweep in the same range usually costs a little more.
  • Control: most BLDC fans include a remote as standard; on other fans it is often a paid extra.

Lead times and delivery

No figure is given here: time and minimums depend on the maker and the order. A fan from a maker's current range moves fastest. Your own brand and colours, a new blade design, a BLDC controller for your voltage or reports for a new market add time. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum per model in the quote.

Roptan delivers to dealers, offices, schools and housing projects across Bangladesh, with model and quantity counted against the order. Ceiling fans are fitted by the seller or your electrician, as agreed in the quote. You receive warranty cards, service contacts and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying electric fans for export

Table, floor, wall, window, ceiling and roof fans with a self-contained motor of not more than 125 W enter under HS 8414.51; exhaust fans of 24 inches or more fall on a separate line. Your customs broker confirms it. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, with the voltage and frequency your market uses and IEC 60335-2-80 and IEC 60879 reports on the exact model.

What we check for this order

  • BSTI licence for fans and regulatorsWe check the maker's BSTI licence is current and covers the fan type and any regulator in your order.
  • Measured air delivery and wattsWe match air delivery, input watts and service value in the report to the spec sheet and your order.
  • Run test on sampled fansOn fans sampled under ISO 2859-1 we run each speed and check for wobble, noise and the remote.
  • Voltage range and labelWe match the rated voltage range on the label to the spec sheet and your order.

Questions buyers ask

BLDC or induction: which ceiling fan should I order?

BLDC where fans run long hours or share a backup supply: the motor is much more efficient and usually comes with a remote. Induction where the buying price matters more. Compare air delivery and watts from the same test, not motor type alone.

What sweep do I need?

Usually 900 mm for small rooms, 1200 mm for ordinary bedrooms and offices, and 1400 mm for large rooms and halls. Makers' room-size tables differ, so treat these as a starting point.

Does a fan sold in Bangladesh need BSTI certification?

Yes. Circulating fans, ventilating fans and electronic fan regulators are on BSTI's mandatory certification list, so the maker needs a BSTI licence and the mark. An energy grade for fans also exists, but whether it is mandatory is unclear, so do not expect a star on every fan.

What is service value?

Air delivery in cubic metres per minute divided by the watts the fan draws, both from the same test. A higher figure means more air for the power. Fans in the same label band can differ, so compare measured figures.

How soon will I hear back about home appliances?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
