Buying sun hats in Bangladesh
A sun hat is designed to shade the head, face, neck and shoulders, usually with a semi-rigid brim, as a general guide about 10 to 18 cm wide. Styles include broad-brimmed fabric hats, straw hats, legionnaire hats and deep-crown bucket hats. ARPANSA, Australia's radiation agency, notes that a hat rarely protects enough on its own.
Roptan finds a verified sun hat manufacturer in Bangladesh for your style, fixes brim width and crown depth on the sample, checks any UPF report against your fabric and colours, and inspects the finished hats. You deal with Roptan only.
Points to settle with a sun hat manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Brim width by age
- In centimetres. SunSmart New Zealand's broad-brim minimums are 5 cm to age 8, 6 cm for 9 to 11 and 7.5 cm from 12; deep-crown bucket hats, 6 cm from 9.
- Crown depth and head size
- Both in centimetres, per size, fixed on the sample; a deep crown is part of the recommended bucket style.
- Weave and colour
- A tight weave leaves less space for UV, and darker colours absorb more. A UPF result belongs to the fabric and colour tested.
- Straw and lining
- Name the straw. Straw can have gaps between its fibres, so ARPANSA advises a fabric lining; state the lining fabric and where it sits.
- Flaps and cords
- Ear or neck flaps and, for children, chin cords. Flaps change the US flammability position; ask the lab about cords on children's hats.
UPF standards and tests for sun hats
- AS/NZS 4399
- The Australian and New Zealand sun protective clothing standard, used by ARPANSA to test fabrics and hats. Its categories are minimum 15, good 30, and excellent 50 and 50+.
- EN 13758-1 and EN 13758-2
- The European test method for apparel fabrics (Part 1) and classification and marking (Part 2). Cite the current consolidated texts, not the withdrawn 2002 and 2003 editions.
- AATCC TM 183, ASTM D6544 and ASTM D6603
- The usual US route: TM 183 measures UV transmission, D6544 first ages the fabric to simulate two years of use, and D6603 sets the label. Ask the lab to name its method.
- ISO 105-B02 and ISO 105-E04
- Colour fastness to xenon-arc light, since the hat lives outdoors, and to perspiration for the sweatband; write your grades into the order.
Lead times and delivery
Plan the UPF test into the timetable, since swing tags wait for the report. For the rest of the timetable, use a general garment figure: a September 2026 press report put orders from Bangladesh at 60 to 95 days from order to fulfilment. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum order in the quote.
For buyers in Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your warehouse, school or site with brims protected in the carton, and with the delivery note, inspection report, Mushak 6.3 VAT invoice and a copy of any UPF report.
Buying sun hats for export
Construction decides the HS heading: hats plaited or assembled from strips of straw, raffia or paper braid go under 6504, fabric hats under 6505. In the US, fabric sun hats need a fibre content, origin and RN or name label under 16 CFR Part 303. Roptan prices hats FOB Chattogram and ships them with the UPF and inspection reports.
Questions buyers ask
Can we print UPF 50+ on our sun hats?
Only with a test report behind it, on the hat or its fabric as sold, in each colour, and only in the form the named standard allows: AS/NZS 4399, EN 13758 and the US method classify results differently. ARPANSA's swing-tag scheme wants reports on every type and colour of material, no older than 12 months.
Is a straw hat enough for sun protection?
Not on its own. Straw can leave gaps between fibres, so ARPANSA advises a fabric lining, and the Skin Cancer Foundation prefers a tightly woven hat. Even then a brim gives low protection factors: the WHO pairs a broad-brimmed hat with shade, clothing, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Can a baseball cap go in a sun hat range?
No. SunSmart New Zealand does not recommend caps or visors for sun protection, and ARPANSA found that caps give almost no protection to the neck and ears. For a sun range, choose a broad brim, a deep-crown bucket hat or a legionnaire style.
Does a sun hat with a neck flap need a US flammability test?
Possibly. Under 16 CFR Part 1610, a hat is outside the US clothing flammability standard only if it forms no part of a covering for the neck, face or shoulders, and a neck flap arguably does. Ask the lab before bulk; all-polyester, all-nylon or all-wool fabric is exempt from testing.
How soon will I hear back about caps and hats?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
