Buying shorts in Bangladesh
Men's shorts are sized like trousers, by waist and inseam, but come in more builds: woven with a fly, cargo, knit with an elastic waist, and athletic. Retailers buy them for casual and sports ranges, and tailored shorts, often lined, are worn in school and service uniforms in hot climates.
Roptan matches your brief to a verified shorts manufacturer in Bangladesh with the right line, woven or knit, and gets quotes on the same fabric, inseam and waistband build. We approve a fit sample with you, inspect the bulk and deliver. You deal with Roptan only.
What to tell a shorts manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Inseam
- Measured from the crotch seam to the hem along the inseam. Lengths of 5, 7 and 9 inches are common; give yours, in the seller's units, with a tolerance.
- Waistband build
- A fitted waistband with a fly, or a tunnel elastic waistband with a drawcord. Name the elastic type and width, and whether the drawcord is threaded or sewn in.
- Elastic
- Woven elastic is strong and resists rolling, so it usually goes in waistbands; knitted elastic is softer and stretchier; braided elastic is a general choice for casings.
- Fabric and fibre
- Woven or knit, the weight, and each fibre with its percentage; cotton suits hot, humid wear. Approve a swatch at the quoted weight.
- Pockets and lining
- The number and type of pockets, any zip or hook-and-loop closures, and whether the short is lined: each adds a step to the quote.
Tests for men's shorts
- ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
- Dimensional change in washing and drying, by the ISO 6330 home laundering procedures. Ask for it on every fabric lot, knit shorts above all.
- ISO 12945-2
- Pilling, fuzzing and matting by the modified Martindale method. Ask for it on knit shorts, beside the shrinkage result.
- ISO 105-C06, X12 and E04
- Colour fastness to washing, to rubbing and to perspiration. Shorts are washed often and worn in heat, so ask for all three on dark shades.
- REACH Annex XVII, entries 43 and 72
- For the EU: no azo dyes releasing listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged skin contact, and limits on listed CMR substances in clothing.
Lead times and delivery
Time usually depends on the fabric route: woven cloth is more often imported than knit, which local mills mostly supply. Each extra fit sample round adds time. Roptan confirms the minimum per style and colour, and the production and shipping dates, in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver shorts to your warehouse, stores, schools or offices in any district, cartoned by size, colour and inseam. Each delivery carries the packing list, the inspection report, any lab reports your order asked for, and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying shorts for export
For importers we quote FOB Chattogram. Woven men's shorts share 6203 42 or 6203 43 with trousers, and knit shorts share 6103 42 or 6103 43, by fibre. Swim shorts are classed by customs as swimwear, under separate lines. Sea freight usually takes about three to five weeks to EU and US ports. Preference status after 24 November 2026, when Bangladesh is due to leave LDC status, is to be confirmed at order time.
Questions buyers ask
Elastic or flat waistband: which should I choose?
A fitted waistband with a fly suits woven, tailored and uniform shorts; a tunnel elastic waistband with a drawcord suits knit and athletic shorts. With elastic, ask for woven elastic in the waistband, since it is strong and resists rolling.
Which fabric suits shorts for Bangladesh's climate?
Cotton, which breathes and absorbs moisture; polyester and nylon can trap heat. One fabric guide puts medium-weight cloth, about 7 to 9 oz per square yard, in the band used for trousers and shorts. Approve a swatch at the quoted weight before sampling.
Do knit shorts need different tests from woven ones?
Yes. The seam slippage methods in ISO 13936 are written for woven fabrics, so they suit woven shorts. Knit shorts add washing shrinkage under ISO 5077 and pilling under ISO 12945-2; ask for both on the fabric before bulk cutting.
Does a drawstring standard apply to men's shorts?
EN 14682 covers cords and drawstrings on children's clothing up to the age of 14, so it applies to boys' sizes in a range, not to men's. For men's shorts, write the drawcord's length, ends and fixing into the spec instead.
How soon will I hear back about men's wear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
