Buying chinos in Bangladesh

Chinos are trousers in chino cloth, a twill usually of cotton and now also woven in cotton-synthetic blends; the twill weave gives the cloth its diagonal line and its drape. Retailers and importers order chinos in volume, and poly-cotton versions are common for work uniforms, so say on the brief whether the trousers are for retail or for staff.

Rather than vetting a chinos manufacturer in Bangladesh yourself, send Roptan the brief by form or chat. We match it to verified sellers of woven trousers, get quotes on the same twill and trims, and measure a washed sample before you approve bulk. Deal with Roptan only, or post the requirement on our board and deal with sellers directly.

Kinds of chinos

Flat-front chinos

No pleats below the waistband, so the front lies plain. Write 'flat front' on the brief: a trouser front can carry anything from no pleats to three.

Pleated chinos

One or more pleats below the waistband, used on formal and casual trousers alike. Reverse pleats open towards the pockets, forward pleats towards the fly: give the number and direction.

Stretch chinos

Twill with a small share of elastane, the stretch yarn. Choose it for movement and a closer fit, and name test methods that suit stretch cloth.

Garment-dyed chinos

Sewn in undyed cloth and dyed as finished trousers. Undyed stock can usually be dyed to an order in days rather than weeks, which suits small colour runs.

Poly-cotton work chinos

Polyester and cotton, such as 65/35, popular for work garments and usually lower in cost than all-cotton. Choose it for staff, security and factory uniforms.

What to tell a chinos manufacturer in Bangladesh

Cloth and weight
The weave, each fibre's percentage, and the weight in oz per square yard or GSM; 8 oz per square yard or more is usually called bottom weight.
Pre-shrinking
Ask whether the twill is pre-shrunk by a compressive finish, and to what residual value, such as under 1 percent. Shrinkage still varies from roll to roll.
Measuring points
Inseam from the crotch seam to the hem along the inseam; rise from the top of the waist or from below the waistband. Name the point.
Stretch content
The elastane percentage, the stretch and recovery you expect, and seam and elasticity tests made for stretch cloth.
Colour route
Stock cloth, cloth dyed to your order, or garment dyeing. Each route changes the timing, and garment dyeing can repeat a shade less closely.

Tests for chinos

ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
Dimensional change after washing and drying, by the ISO 6330 procedures. Put your shrinkage limit in the order and ask for a result per fabric lot.
ISO 16322-3 and ISO 16322-2
Spirality after laundering, on the garment and on the cloth. Twill trousers can twist after washing, so agree a limit against an approved washed sample.
ISO 105-X12 and ISO 105-E04
Colour fastness to rubbing and to perspiration. Ask for both, beside the wash test, on dark and garment-dyed chinos.
REACH Annex XVII, entry 43
For the EU: no azo dyes releasing listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged skin contact. EN ISO 14362-1 is one test method.

What moves the price of chinos

  • Cloth route: stock shades of chino twill usually cost less than cloth dyed to order, since mills make them in larger runs.
  • Imported twill: in a 2023 report local mills met only 35 to 40 percent of woven fabric demand, and imported cloth adds cost and time.
  • Fibre: poly-cotton blends usually cost less than comparable all-cotton chinos.
  • Trims: pocketing, interlining, zip, buttons, hook and bar, labels and packing each add cost.

Lead times and delivery

Fabric usually sets the date. One sourcing guide puts woven cloth from local mills at about 30 to 45 days, with imported cloth adding another 20 to 30 days, so treat both as typical and not as a promise. Each extra fit or wash sample round adds time. Roptan confirms the minimum per style and colour, and the production and shipping dates, in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver chinos to your warehouse, stores or offices in any district, with cartons marked by colour, waist and inseam. Each delivery carries the packing list, the lab reports your order asked for, by fabric lot, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying chinos for export

For importers we quote FOB Chattogram. The UK tariff splits cotton trousers under 6203 42 into industrial and occupational, denim, cut corduroy and other lines: chinos usually fall under other, and your customs broker confirms the code. Sea freight usually takes three to five weeks to EU and US ports. Bangladesh is due to leave LDC status on 24 November 2026; preference status after that is to be confirmed at order time.

What we check for this order

  • Fabric lots by shadeWe see the twill inspected against light before cutting and lots grouped by shade, so no size run mixes lots.
  • Washed measurementsWe measure waist, rise and inseam on washed pieces; one trade list counts a leg off by over 3/8 inch as a defect.
  • Twist and skewWe check washed side seams for leg twist, and the cloth for bow or skew, which that list flags above 1.5 percent.
  • Final inspectionWe sample to ISO 2859-1, usually at AQL 2.5 major and 4.0 minor, for open seams, missing bartacks and zip faults.

Questions buyers ask

What weight of twill should chinos be?

No single weight is right, so agree it on a swatch. As a guide, hot-climate trouser cloth runs about 4.5 to 8.5 oz per square yard (about 150 to 290 GSM), medium weight 7 to 9 oz and cold-weather cloth 10 to 12 oz. Lighter bands suit Bangladesh's heat.

Do stretch chinos need different tests?

Yes. For seam slippage, ISO 13936-1, the fixed seam opening method, is not suitable for stretch fabric; ISO 13936-2, the fixed load method, is. ISO 20932-1 strip tests measure the cloth's elasticity and recovery.

How do you stop chinos shrinking after the first wash?

Start with pre-shrunk twill, then test. Factories usually test a swatch from each fabric lot and wash two or three base-size samples, then adjust the pattern. We check the ISO 5077 result and washed measurements before bulk cutting.

Can garment-dyed chinos match a colour on repeat orders?

Less closely than cloth dyed before cutting: some garment dyeing machines limit how well a shade repeats. Agree a shade band per dye lot, and test rubbing and perspiration fastness as well as washing.

How soon will I hear back about men's wear?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
